Charles Edward Roback

Racine – Charles Edward Roback, 47, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2008, following a valiant fight with cancer. He was born in Chicago on September 29, 1960, the son of Edward and Mary (nee: Harrison) Roback. Charles was raised and attended school in Crystal Lake, Illinois; and had lived in Racine since 1995.

Charles lived and worked coast-to-coast in the food service industry until he came to the Racine Marriott Hotel where he was the Executive Chef for 10 years. He delighted in cooking to please others, always paying attention to the smallest details and going the extra mile. His work and his customers were among the most important things in his life. In his free time, Charles enjoyed caring for his flower garden, reading, and American history.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Kathryn Roback of Crystal Lake, Illinois; sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn and Michael Nawrocki of St. Charles, Illinois; niece and nephew, Laura and Edward Nawrocki; as well as other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Leo Roback.

The celebration of his life and the Funeral Mass will be held at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Burial will take place alongside his father in Fox River Grove, Illinois, on Thursday. Visitation will take place in the funeral home Monday evening from 5-7 p.m., and in the church Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. Memorials in honor of Charles to the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Road Des Plaines, IL 60018; or the Froedtert Hospital Foundation for Neurosciences, 9200 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53226 are encouraged.

Diane June Ernst

Sturtevant – Diane June Ernst, 73, passed away at home on Thursday, June 5, 2008.

Diane was born in Racine on June 7, 1934, daughter of the late Martin and Ann (nee: Elias) Gratz. On November 27, 1950, she was married to Edward A. Ernst. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1993.

Diane was an energetic woman who loved to laugh, and enjoyed being with her family and friends. She was and avid Cubs fan, and like to make trips to the casino with her friends.

She will be missed greatly by her children, Edward (Susan) Ernst of Sturgeon Bay, Terry (Adalsor Valero) Ernst of Sturtevant and Venezuela S.A., and Laurie Ernst of Sturtevant; grandchildren, Molly (Tony) Kleiman of Milwaukee, Alison Ernst of Sturgeon Bay, Karla (Scott) Docken, and Melissa Ernst both of Madison, and Nicholas Ernst of Racine; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and good friends, including Barbara Schultz, Marlene Schueppler, and Fern Johnson all of Sturtevant. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Joyce.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. On Wednesday, June 11, 2008, with Rev. Kara Baylor officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m., and Wednesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Memorials to The A.L.S. Robert 'Bob' Emmett Gorman

ZEPHYRHILLS, FL - Robert (Bob) Emmett Gorman, 81, originally of Kansasville, WI, most currently residing in Zephyrhills, FL, passed away in Dade City, Florida, on June 4, 2008.

Bob was born to Emmett and Catherine Gorman on May 31, 1927, in Burlington.

Bob graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Burlington. He served in the United States Navy. On June 28, 1952 Bob married Joyce (Berens) at St. Joseph Church in Racine. Together they founded Racine Grain Company in 1960. Through this business venture, they made countless friendships. They continued to assist with the business which is now owned by his son and daughter-in-law Chris and Sue Gorman.

Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 60 years. He enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, golfing, and playing cards with friends.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, and their children: Colleen Gorman-Frelka (Christopher) of Oak Creek, Kurt Gorman (Kathy) of Racine, Chris Gorman (Sue) of Racine, and Kellie Schoening (Bruce) of Sturtevant. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings Nancy (Ralph) Epping of Burlington, JoAnn Straka, Sturtevant, and Kathleen (Phil) Trimberger of Kansasville, WI, and his grandchildren Shanna (Nik) Ratzburg, and Patrick, Caitlin, Kyle, and Cara Gorman. He was greeted in Heaven by his parents, Emmett and Catherine, his son, Kevin Gorman, his brothers, Tom and Gene Gorman, and brother-in-law Frank Straka.

At Bob’s request, a private service will be held. Interment will be at Holy Cross Mausoleums in Racine.

Bob had the luck of the Irish. May God hold him in the palm of His hand.

Sally R. Keppler

Sally R. Keppler, 74, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, with her family at her bedside. She was born in Racine on March 13, 1934, the daughter of the late Oliver and Ruth (nee: Christenson) Hansche.

Sally was a lifetime resident of Racine. She graduated from Washington Park High School and attended Ripon College. On September 11, 1954, she was united in marriage to Donald Keppler. They later divorced; Donald passed away on December 20, 2004. Sally had been employed by the Racine Unified School District as a paraprofessional for special education programs. She served as president for the Racine Educational Aides Association. Sally enjoyed playing bridge, going to movies and live performances, traveling, and just having fun. She was a Packer fan and to say she loved the Brewers is an understatement.

Surviving are her children, Kurt (Debra) Keppler of Valdosta, GA, and Kim Marie (Jay) Suhr of Austin, TX; grandchildren Jarrett Suhr of Melbourne FL, Kyle Keppler, a May graduate of Georgia Tech, Jordan Suhr, a student at Texas A & M, Katlin Keppler a student at Valdosta State University, and Madison Suhr of Austin, TX; and by her true and faithful companion, John Winter of Racine. Sally will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her Memorial Service will be held in Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, 1700 S. Green Bay Rd. on Saturday, June 7th at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kara Baylor and Rev. Carl Johnson officiating. Relatives and friends can meet with the family from Noon until the time of the service. The family has suggested memorials to the Oncology Alliance Philanthropic Foundation. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael P. Mullane, his nurses and staff; as well as, the staff of Wheaton Franciscan Hospice.

Lyle L. Arnes

Mr. Lyle L. Arnes passed away at Harmony Commons Assistive Living in Racine on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, where he had lived for the past year, after a long battle with the effects of the Shy-Drager Syndrome for close to ten years.

Lyle was born in Cumberland, Wisconsin, on January 21, 1920, to Harry and Ruth (Nee: Loomis) Arnes. He was united in marriage to Marie “Jackie” Fornary on December 10, 1943, in Patterson, New Jersey. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1943, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then served his country during World War II for two years as an Ensign in the United States Navy, being discharged in 1946 after also serving for 9 months as First Lieutenant at the Naval Base on Iwo Jima.

Lyle was employed as an Engineer at Walker Manufacturing Company for 33 years. During his employment years, he was granted 15 patents related to “Walker Jack” products or components. After retirement in 1980, he continued to work for Walker’s as an “Expert Witness” in product liability cases involving Walker Jacks.

Survivors include his wife, Marie, of 64 years; his daughter, Lucy (Don) Carlson; his grandchildren, Michelle (Tom) Rouse and Rachael (Steve) Pollock; his great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Thomas Jr., Jacqueline, and Jayda Faith Rouse. He is also survived by his brother, Harry (Jackie) Arnes of Arkansas; and sister-in-law, Lucy Pucely of Racine. Additionally, he is survived by nieces, nephews, and friends who have always held a very special place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Marlys Johnson and Harriette Lien.

A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 6, 2008, 6:00 P.M. with Rev. Jim Olson officiating. Private interment will be held. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 P.M. until time of service. Memorials to the Shy-Drager Research Fund or for an education fund to be established for Lyle’s great-grandchildren have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Hospice Alliance, especially Terry and Stephanie A. who always treated Lyle with love, dignity, and respect especially in his final days. The family also thanks the staff at Harmony Commons for all the kindness and care shown them during this most difficult time.

Steven M. Roslansky


Slinger – Steven M. Roslansky, 45, formerly of Racine, passed away unexpectedly at the Hartford Medical Center on Monday, June 2, 2008.

He was born in Racine on July 26, 1962. Shortly after graduating from Case High school in 1980, he relocated to Milwaukee. He had been residing in Slinger since 1996.

Steven worked in Milwaukee for the US Postal Service from 1990 until the time of his death. He was one of those rare people who everyone liked. His sense of humor was unique, and he loved playing practical jokes. Steve enjoyed traveling the world, and especially to Hawaii and on cruise ships. He also liked to spend his time quietly with music, his friends and family, and his cats and dogs.

He is survived by his father, Marvin Roslansky of Apache Junction, Arizona; sisters, JoAnn (Rocky) Rockwell, and Rebecca (Kevin) Stellman of Wisconsin Rapids; brothers, Dennis Roslansky of Benton Kentucky, and Ronald Davidson of Racine; his dear companion, Randy “Tom” Pleugers of Slinger; as well as his nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ida (nee: Petersen) Roslansky; and his sister, Barbara Peterson.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2008, with Rev. Holly Anderle officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.Memorials to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072 Pittsfield, MA 01202 have been suggested.

Jean D. Quella

Jean D. Quella, age 77, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, June 1, 2008, with her family by her side.

Jean was born in Racine, July 16, 1930, daughter of the late August F. and Kathryn E. (Nee: Klass) Hoffman. On July 9, 1949 she was united in marriage to Cyril J. Quella Jr. who preceded her in death, March 3, 1998.

Jean was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Above all Jean cherished time spent with her family. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her eight children and nineteen grandchildren, Thomas (Lynda) Quella of Necedah, WI, and their daughter, Candi (Ben) Quella-Jantz; Linda (Jim) Miller of Racine and their daughters, Jenny (Wes) Carroll, Becky (Kyle) Kasper; Vicky Quella of Racine and her son, Aaron Deno; Julieanne (Milan) Milosevic of Arizona and their children, Michael Milosevic, Peter Milosevic (Heather Lilla), Kai Milosevic; John (Sandy) Quella of Valmy, WI, and their children, Sarah Quella, Amanda Quella, Steven Quella,; Dan (Maureen) Quella of Racine and their daughters, Calli Quella, Caiti Quella; Carter (Brita) Quella of Roanoke, TX, and their children, Carson Hughes, Jacq Quella, Cort Quella; Patrick (Carolyn) Quella of Germantown, WI, and their children, Sam Quella, Simon Quella, Grace Quella, and Kelly Quella; three great-grandchildren, PJ Carroll, Shawn Carroll, and Eva Milosevic; three brothers, George (Mickey) Hoffman, James Hoffman, Roger (Ronnie) Hoffman, all of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
