Kristen E. Oates, age 42, of Shorewood, WI. (formerly of Racine and a 1986 graduate of Horlick High School ), passed away peacefully on May 10, 2010, after a courageous 3 ½-year battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Kris was born February 5, 1968, in Detroit, MI, to Dianne Luedtke (Ken) and Roger Mathews (Jean). Cherished wife and best friend to Michael Oates and proud mother of Lucas and Tyler. Sister to Steve Mathews (Motoe). Daughter-in-law of Robert and Aileen Oates. Sister-in-law to Jim (Mary) Oates, Lori (Hank) Van Stedum, Lisa (Gene) Dorner, and Jeff (Dawn) Oates. Also survived by a loving community of relatives, friends, neighbors, and parents at Lake Bluff school.
Kris selflessly faced her long and challenging journey with strength, optimism, courage and an amazing sense of wit and humor. Her attitude, charisma and grace have forever touched everyone who knew her.
Her memorial service will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010, at 4 p.m. at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, 106 W. Silver Spring Dr., Whitefish Bay, WI. Friends and relatives may visit with the family Saturday at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. At the request of the family, dress will be casual.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Lucas and Tyler’s American Funds – College America 529 Savings Plan (checks made payable to Mike Oates), or in Kris’ name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
