Tom Martin was born June 11, 1937, in Middlebourgh, Kentucky. Tom passed away peacefully, Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center, at the age of 73, after a long illness.
Tom was the dear husband of Sandra (Nee: Schiefelbein) Martin; loving father to Dr. Thomas Martin and Bradley James Martin, who preceded him in death; beloved grandfather of Laureen, Dalton and Kyle Martin; other relatives and many dear friends.
Tom was the owner of the Uptown Citgo on Washington Avenue and affiliated with the Racine Ice Company. Tom and his wife Sandra owned and operated Durand Avenue Mart, for may years until they retired in 1999. Tom proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Tom enjoyed horse racing, golfing and playing cards. More than anything he treasured time spent with his family. He will be greatly missed by so many.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 15, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m.
Tom’s family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Mark Kennedy and his staff at Wheaton Franciscan for all their care, and to special friends and family: Ralph and Rhonda Bencriscutto, Dave and Sherri Prucha, Rick and Paula Itner, Mark and Mary Tharinger for their loving care and compassion.
