Nancy E. (Vasiloff) Demetriou

Nancy E. Demetriou, age 68, passed away Sunday, Mother’s Day, May 9, 2010, at Wheaton-Franciscan Healthcare. Nancy was born in Waukegan, IL, March 2, 1942, daughter of the late Louis and Marie (Nee: Melonas) Vasiloff.

Nancy was a graduate of Waukegan Township High School “Class of 1960.”  On July 15, 1962, at St. Demetrios Church in Waukegan, IL, she was united in marriage to James T. Demetriou.   In her younger years she was employed with Golden Books.  Nancy was a dedicated member of the Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church where she served as secretary for eleven years.  Nancy was an active member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and started the Senior Citizen’s Kafeneion.   She loved her travels with her family throughout the United States and to Canada, Jerusalem, Cyprus and Greece.  Her pastimes included crafts and floral arranging.  More than anything she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, James; her children, Tasia (Paul) Rebecchi, Ted (Robin) Demetriou, all of Racine; her grandchildren, Terri and Rina Rebecchi, Rheanna Demetriou; sister, Evelyn (Fred) Markus of Gurnee, IL; brother, Dennis (Nancy) Vaseloff of Gurnee, IL; sisters-in-law, Mary (Anastasio) Kokkinakis of Racine, Despina (Peter) Vlastaras of Beach Park, IL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Constance (Martin) Christensen.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 1335 S. Green Bay Road, Hwy 31, with Rev. John Ketchum, Rev. Douglas Papulis and Rev. Peter Papademetriou officiating.  Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.  (Trisagion Service at 7 p.m.)  Memorials to the Kimissis Senior Citizen’s  Kafeneion or to the Regional Parkinson Center, Aurora Sinai Medical Center, 3000 W. Montana Street, Milwaukee, WI  53215 have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire staff at Wheaton-Franciscan Healthcare 2nd Floor 2C and to Julie Maher for their loving and compassionate care.
