George 'Thomas' Miller

George Thomas Miller, age 91, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Becker-Shoop Center. He was born in Racine on April 27, 1921, son of the late Bernard and Gladys (Nee: Nolte) Miller and had been a lifelong Racine resident.

Tom graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1939” where he excelled in sports and played football and basketball. He went on to attend Marquette University until the onset of WWII. He joined the Air Force, was commissioned as a Lieutenant and served as a navigator. He was stationed in the European Theatre and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. On October 7, 1944, at St. Rose Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Jacqueline Pease Guilbert.

Following the war, he returned to his wife and to Marquette where he graduated with a degree in engineering. Tom was employed by Twin Disc Corp for 36 years and retired in 1982. Tom was a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church and the Society of Automotive Engineers. He was an avid golfer and longtime member of Meadowbrook Country Club, where he hit five holes in one and cofounded the Tri Course golf tournament. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are four sons, Mark S. (Betsy) Miller of Racine, Craig T. (Carol) Miller of Phoenix, AZ, Todd G. (Kathie) Miller of Racine, Brian J. (Anita) Miller of Racine; six granddaughters, Carolyn Miller( Robert) Pierson, Brooke Miller (David) Hall, Courtney Miller, Megan Miller, Carly Fonk and Ellen Miller; three great-grandchildren, Makai, Mason and Maxwell; his sister, Mary Miller (Ray) Farley; brother-in-law, Bill Lewis; and sister-in-law, Lucille Born; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Tom was also preceded in death by his brothers, John Robert (Mary Gordon) Miller and George William “Bud” Miller.

Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, from 4-6 p.m. A memorial prayer service will follow at 6 p.m. with Reverend Mark Jones officiating. Private interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials to the American Heart Assn or St. Catherine’s High School have been suggested.
