Russell F. Luedtke

Russell F. Luedtke, age 92, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center.  Russell was born in Racine on April 26, 1920, son of the late Emil and Martha (Nee:  Fromholz) Luedtke.

On August 25, 1945, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, he was united in marriage to Marie Schuppe, who preceded him in death, October 29, 2011.  He was employed by the City of Racine for thirty-three years from 1952 until retirement in 1985, and belonged to the "20-Year Club" and Fire Bell Club.   Russell was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.  An avid outdoorsman, Russell enjoyed walking, gardening, and slow and fast-pitch baseball.  Above all, he cherished time with his family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his three daughters, Sandra (Scott) Sidney of Cedarburg, Cheryl (Robert) Garrity of Racine, Donna Lyons of Racine; four grandchildren, Christopher Garrity, Jennifer (Nick) Willis, Devon (Nate) Magnusson, Sabin Sidney; great-grandsons, Carter Willis, Adrian Garrity; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert (Venise) Schuppe of Wheeling, IL, Helen (Joseph) Pulice of Racine, Hattie Schuppe of Franksville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard Luedtke, Dr. Walter Luedtke; and sister, Helen Luedtke.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 28, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Rosalind Dryver-Scott officiating.  Private interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.  Memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire staff at Bay Pointe, Tammy and Dee Dee at Home Instead, and to Dr. Short and staff at Wheaton Franciscan for their loving and compassionate care.
