Janice E. Hamm, age 83, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Meadowmere, in Kenosha, WI. Janice was born in Flushing, New York, on February 4, 1930, daughter of the late Jesse and Sara (Nee: McCollam) VanZile.
On June 18, 1949, in Oak Park, IL she was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Hamm, who preceded her in death on November 13, 2008. Janice was a graduate of Carthage College and taught fourth grade at Dr. Jones Elementary School for twenty-five years. She was a member of Bethania Lutheran Church, former member of the Woman’s Club, and had a great passion for traveling the world. Janice cherished time with her family and will be fondly remembered for her quick smile and gentle ways.
Survivors include her two daughters, Diane (William) Katt of Kenosha, Janet (Joe) Teeters of Laurel, MD; her grandchildren, Ryan Katt of Waukesha, Kendra Katt of Kenosha; sisters, Linda (Charlie) Walker of FL, Lois Jean Shalda of MI; sisters-in-law, Joan Mercer of IL, Barbara (Jim) Rife of IN, Ernestine Hamm of GA; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lou (Raymond) Elliiott.
Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., at which time a service will be held. Private interment will be held at a later date at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, Hospice Alliance, or to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.
