Edward L Mitchell passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012, after a full life of 96 years.
Ed was a lifelong resident of Racine, other than his tour of duty in World War II, where he spent his war years in California, Louisiana, China, India and Arabia as security officer of military transport ships, rising to the rank of Captain. After leaving the army, he worked at Massey Fergusson and Twin Disc before finally retiring in 1982. He married his wife, Connie in 1950. He spent his early years fishing, bowling and partying with friends and his large family. His later years were spent with trips to Las Vegas and Florida with his wife and kids, as well as spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Connie (nee Corona); daughter, Diane Mitchell; son, Ed (Karen) Mitchell; granddaughters, Karrie (Mike) Petrowski and Nina (Brent) Schaub; great-granddaughters, Rylee Madison, Regan Alexandra Petrowski and Gemma Edward Schaub. He is also survived by sisters, Nora Nielsen, Grace Paulson and Linda (Milt) Mogren; the loving members of the large Corona Family, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Antonine Mitchell; brother, Donny Mitchell; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Betty Mitchell; sister and brother-in law, Leona and Harvey Anderson; and brothers-in-law, Al Nielsen and Arthur Paulson.
Funeral service in celebration of Ed’s life will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Tuesday, evening, July 3, 2012, at 7 p.m. with full military honors. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. service time. Private interment will be held. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
