Sister Sheila Ehr, O.P., 99 passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Hospital-All Saints, Racine on Tuesday, July 10, 2012.
Elizabeth Marie Ehr was born December 23, 1912, to Nicholas and Alma (nee: Benzing) Ehr in Milwaukee, WI. On January 26, 1941, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1941 she was given the religious name Sister Sheila. She professed her first vows in 1943 and her final vows in 1949.
Sister Sheila spent many years in service to others in teaching. She began her ministry in 1942 at Holy Name, Racine. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Luke, Plain; St. Rita and St. Patrick, Racine; Holy Cross, Kaukauna; St. Louis, Caledonia; St. Norbert, Roxbury; St. Mary, Janesville; St. Mary, Belgium; St. John, South Milwaukee; St. Nicholas, St. Matthias, St. John Nepomuk, and St. Barbara, Milwaukee, and St. Aloysius, West Allis. She also served in Michigan. In 1981 she moved to Siena Center and did Community Service and worked in the Senior Companion Program.
Sister Sheila is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her brother Thomas P. (Yvette) Ehr; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Henry, Victor, Richard and Nicholas; and her sisters, Gertrude Krisch and Winifred Meyer.
Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Friday July 13, 2012, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested
