Ella Alice Johnson, age 97, passed away Monday, February 11, 2013, at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center. Ella was born in Racine on February 22, 1915, daughter of the late Joseph and Zendonia (Nee: Kucera) Hlavka.
Ella was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1934” and was a member of her Class Reunion Planning Committee. On September 30, 1939, at St. Joseph Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Harvey B. Johnson, who preceded her in death on February 5, 1983. Ella was employed for nineteen years by the Racine Unified School District’s Food Service, retiring in 1987. She was an active member of St. Rita Catholic Church and member of the Christian Mother’s Altar Society. A world traveler, she has traveled to all fifty states, Thailand, China, Japan, Australia and Europe. Ella also enjoyed swimming and playing cards. More than anything, she cherished her family. She will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her children, Arlene (Dick) Brouillette of Harvard, IL, Patty (Al) Singstock of Racine; her daughter-in-law, Gretchen Johnson of Milwaukee; six grandchildren, Jon (Cindy) Brouillette, Joel Brouillette, Daniela (Neil) Rongstad, Audra (John) Rumpf, Alicia (Aaron) Stratman, Amanda (Gary) Newhard; thirteen great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jena & Joshua Brouillette; Jade, Luke & Danica Brouillette; Jonah Rongstad; Grace & Cole Rumpf; Avaree & Alexa Stratman; Sawyere & Savannah Newhard; nieces, nephews, longtime dear friend of twenty-four years, Larry Janiak; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Gerald Johnson; brothers, Joseph and George.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. Although her journey on earth has ended, she will never be forgotten and we will all miss her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Rita Catholic Church, Lincoln Village Convalescent Center or to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.
Ella’s family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Lincoln Village for the fine care and compassion she received.
