Sister Clara Dischler, O.P.

Sister Clara Dischler, O.P., 91, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine on Sunday, February 24, 2013.

Martha Dischler was born February 20, 1922, to Joseph and Mary (nee: Laubmeier) Dischler in Plain, Wisconsin. On August 25, 1936, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1939 she was given the religious name Sister Clara. She professed her first vows in 1941 and her final vows in 1947.

Sister Clara spent many years in service to others in education as a teacher and principal. She began her ministry in 1940 at Holy Name, Racine, Wisconsin. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. John, South Milwaukee; St. Mary, Tomah; St. John, Little Chute; and St. Luke, Plain. She also served in Michigan, Illinois and Alaska. She moved to Siena Center, Racine in 1991 where she managed the Card Shop from 1992 to 2003. In January 2010 she became a resident at Lakeshore Manor, Racine.

Sister Clara is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her brother, Simon (Mary Jane) Dischler; sisters Margaret Chase and Clara Ruegsegger; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Thomas, Charles and Lucas; and sisters, Infant Bernadine Dischler, Lucy Gruber, Genevieve Bindl, Agnes Berget, Elizabeth Liegel and Theresa Brown.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Thursday, February 28, beginning at 9 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.
