She spent her early years in Racine County farming with the Johnson family. She married Arvid Nelson in 1955 and remained in Racine until 1983 when they moved to Willard, WI. In 1993, they moved to Pocahontas, Arkansas. Following Arvid’s death in 2005, Marcy moved back to Racine.Marcy enjoyed being outside and always had a large vegetable garden. She was a devout Lutheran. Her latest membership was at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Racine. She was a woman with a pure, simple, timid, God-fearing servant’s heart.
Marcy is survived by four children, Sue (Don) Tardif, Debra (Brian) Watkins, Mark Nelson, Tim (Wendy) Nelson; two stepchildren, Joyce (Mike) Tapley, Carol Spang; stepdaughter-in-law, Cheryl Nelson; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Webster, Beulah June Ellis; one brother, Cornel (Virginia) Johnsen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1501 Erie St., on Friday, July 18, 2014, at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Jack Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Town of Raymond. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Thursday evening at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. and Friday afternoon at the church from 1 p.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m. Memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church have been suggested.
