John G. Jamieson M.D.

John G. Jamieson passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at the Wheaton-Franciscan Hospital. He was born in LaCrosse, WI, on March 8, 1918, delivered by his father, Raymond D. Jamieson, M.D.  He joined his father, mother (Winifred Lefeuvre Jamieson), and sisters Irene (Hubbard) and Marian (Hoffman) when the family relocated to Racine in 1926. Another sister, Ruth (Schoene), was born on John's 11th birthday.

John graduated from St. Catherine's High School in 1936, attended Marquette University (1936-1939) and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a PhB in Zoology in 1940. That year he enrolled in St. Louis (MO) University, graduating in November 1943 with an M.D. and promotion from 2nd Lt. in the MAC to 1st Lt. in the Medical Corps. He interned at the former St. Mary's Hospital, where he enjoyed a professional association with his father, who passed away shortly after John was called to active duty in October 1944.

While stationed at Camp Bowie, TX, he met and married Yvonne Oliver. They had four children: John Michael "Jamie," Robert Dean, Jana Lynn and Gerald Edward. After discharge from the service, he had a general practice in Racine for 42 years, retiring August 31, 1988. He then served as Medical Director of the Lincoln Lutheran Nursing Homes for six years. During his practice, John served on the Board of St. Mary's Hospital for eight years, six as Secretary and two as Chief of Staff. He also served on the Board of the Wisconsin chapter of the American Academy of General Practice, for two years as Speaker of the House.

In 1994, John and Yvonne moved to Fairfield Glade, TN, where they thoroughly enjoyed its mild climate, which they loved to share with visiting family members and friends. Their new life there was enriched by the deep friendships of many neighbors and other acquaintances, and particularly that of Chuck and JoAnn Kesser, formerly of Racine.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Winifred and Raymond; his wife, Yvonne; their son, John Michael; his daughters-in-law Linda (Rob) Jamieson and Patricia (Jerry) Jamieson; his sister, Irene Hubbard; his brothers-in-law Arleigh (Irene) Hubbard, Richard (Marian) Hoffman and E. Thomas (Ruth) Schoene, as well as many other dear friends and family members.

Dr. Jamieson is survived by sons, Robert of Longbeach, CA, and Jerry of Lake Geneva; and daughter, Jana (Eugene) Gasiorkiewicz of Racine; sisters, Marian Hoffman and Ruth Schoene; grandchildren, Jessica (Adam) Genrich, Grace Jamison, Nicholaus Jamieson; Suzanne (Brian) Selmo, Alexei Gasiorkiewicz, Anton (Rob) Jamieson, Raymond (Leslie) Jamison, Aaron (Tanya) Jamieson, and Seth (Abby) Jamieson; and by great-grandchildren, Colin Gordon, Jamison "Jaya" and Skye Genrich, Chance Adam Van Jamieson, Nathaniel, Zachary, Reagan and Thaddeus Jamison, Madeleine, Amelia and Ian Jamieson, and Evangeline and Penelope Jamieson; and by numerous dear cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 7, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Siena Center Chapel, 5635 Erie St., with Rev. Richard Molter officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at Siena Center Chapel from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. The family follows John’s wishes in suggesting memorials to the Racine Healthcare Network, or the St. Monica’s Senior Center, his residence since September 2011.
