Celester O. Holt

Celester Orlando Holt, “Doug,” age 93, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Kindred Kenosha North Nursing Rehab Center, Kenosha.  He was born in Holly Springs, MS, on  February 24, 1920, son of the late Oscar and Elah (Nee: Cunningham) Holt.

Doug graduated from Washington Park High School “Class of 1939.”  He served in the  U.S. Army during WWII from 1942 to 1945.  He loved playing pool and owned and operated the Downtown Billiards Pool Hall for 49 years, retiring in 2004.  He was an avid sponsor of Youth Sports Teams.  He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his stepson, Derrick Bostick; nieces and nephews, Davetta (James) McBride, Donna (Connie) Neal, Gracie Witherspoon, Donzell Holt Jr, Celester Walker, Ellis Walker, Fred Walker; other relatives and friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Birlenna Crawley and Ella Walker; four brothers, Fred, Silvery, Curtis and Donzel; niece, Iris Johnson; and nephew, Bertram Carrington.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1123 Center St., on Monday, July 22, 2013, at noon with Reverend Hosea Mitchell officiating.  Interment with full military honors will follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 2 p.m. Visitation at the Church from 11 a.m. until time of service.
