Johnie Pearl (Williams) Woods

With her family by her side, Johnie Pearl Woods, age 99, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at her daughter’s home. Johnie was born in Stonewall, MS, on August 10, 1915, daughter of the late Robert and Pearl (nee: Sherman) Williams.

In 1934, she was united in marriage to Frank Petty. To this union, three children, Clinton, Gloria and David were born. Following divorce from her husband, Johnie moved to Racine in 1963. On August 22, 1964, she married James E. Woods, who preceded her in death in 1992.

She was employed with the Kaplan family in Highland Park, IL for over thirty years until she retired. In her younger years, Johnie was employed in Stonewall, MS, with Burlington Mfg. While she was living in Robbins, IL, with her husband, James, Johnie was a faithful member and steward of Wheeler Chapel.

When she relocated to Racine, she continued her dedication at Faith United Methodist Church. She volunteered her time and knitted hundreds of baby caps for Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital NIC unit, and hats and scarves for Jerstad-Agerholm and Julian Thomas grade schools. She also enjoyed knitting and sewing for her family. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her children, Clinton (Charlotte) Petty of WA, Gloria Oliver, David (Judith) Petty, all of Racine; nine grandchildren, Angela, Artis, Alice, Valerie (Arquincy), Vanessa, James Jr., Kenneth, Regina and Rochelle; 11 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ruben (Birdie Mae) Watson, Robert (Jeraline) Williams; and her sister (Frankie Mae (Willie) Oliver.

Funeral services will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 1013 Harmony Dr., on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Anita Lang and Rev. Charlotte Petty officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church Wednesday from noon until time of services at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be held in Mississippi.
