Esther M. (Barwich) Johnson

Esther M. Johnson, age 86, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012, at Ridgewood Care Center. Esther was born in Racine, November 24, 1925, daughter of the late Carl and Freida (Nee: Herzog) Barwich.

Esther was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1944.” Furthering her education she received a nursing degree from Columbia School of Nursing, Milwaukee, WI, in the Nurse Cadet Corps. The war ended before she joined the service.

On June 24, 1948 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Esther was united in marriage to Robert L. Johnson, who preceded her in death, October 21, 2004. Esther was employed by Lincoln Lutheran for fifteen years. She was a charter member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing schafskopf and bridge, bowling and camping. She devoted and cherished time with her family. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her children, Dale (Jeanne) Johnson of Racine, Dean (Pam) Johnson of Rhinelander, David (Marsha) Johnson of St. Marys, GA; her grandchildren, Neil Johnson, Heather (Scott) Olsen, Andy (Katy) Johnson, Melissa (Chris) Siuty, Erin Johnson, Jamie (Ashley) Johnson, Jordan Johnson; her three great-grandchildren, Trey, Abby and Cory; sister, Mary (James) Christensen of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Pearl (John) Balde.

A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home Thursday May 31, 2012, at 6 p.m., with Rev. Kara Baylor officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Thursday from 4 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. Interment will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Hwy C, Town of Dover, Friday June 1, 2012 at 11 a.m. Memorials to Hospice Alliance or the American Cancer Society have been suggested.
