George J. Janosik, age 86, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee. George was born in Racine, July 24, 1925, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Nee: Porstner) Janosik and was a lifelong resident of Racine
During World War II he proudly served in the United States Army as a second scout in the 119th Infantry Regiment 30th Division in the European Theatre of Operations. George received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star medal and spent seven months in a German POW camp. The 30th Infantry was notably recognized and rated as an outstanding division by General Eisenhower.
On June 4, 1949, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Delores Kuehnemann. George started his career at Southeastern Savings in January of 1952, working for 32 years and retiring as president in July of 1984. He went on to serve as Vice President of Pioneer Savings from 1984 until 1989 and then worked as a part-time bailiff in Racine County Courts for seven years. He was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church and served on numerous community and nonprofit organizations over the years. George enjoyed playing golf and cribbage. He treasured time with his family and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-two years, Delores; his children, Dr. Jeffrey (Lyn) Janosik of Racine, Dr. Denise Janosik (John Schmitt) of St. Louis, MO, Terry (Scott) Ritenour of Wauwatosa; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Janosik Jr., Jennifer Janosik, Tiana Schmitt, Marina Schmitt, Erin Ritenour, Autumn Ritenour; sister-in-law, Bonnie Janosik of SC; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Scott Schmitt; and brother, Joseph Janosik .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday May 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Avenue, with Rev. Kevin Mullins OSA officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Calvary Garden Crypts. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Tuesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Memorials to Alzheimer’s Association have been suggested.
