George T. Fineran

George T. Fineran, age 90, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at his residence. George was born in Janesville, WI, on June 16, 1921 to the late Thomas and Alice (Nee: Birmingham) Fineran.

On December 26, 1953, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Helen M. Leech, who preceded him in death, October 29, 2010. George was a fan of, and active in, sports having played Professional Minor League Baseball for the Chicago Cubs and later coaching his sons’ Little League teams in various sports. He was a lifelong fan of the Brewers, Badgers, Packers and Bucks. George enlisted in World War II and served in the 5th Ranger Battalion in the European and African campaigns. He was a proud recipient of the Presidential Citation. He was in many major battles including D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge.

George was a dedicated father and husband, taking care of his wife, Helen, during her long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He loved his sons, and looked forward to their visits, especially when they brought their dogs.

George is survived by his sons, Thomas Fineran, Patrick “Paddy” Fineran; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Bart; other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Gerene; a sister, Mary; and a brother, John.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 1903 Green St., with Rev. Don Zerkel officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32.

Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until time of Mass.
