Gloria Evon 'Vonnie' (Biller) Bates

Gloria Evon (Vonnie) Bates was born in Draper, Wisconsin, on August 31, 1928. She died on October 16, 2012, in Racine, WI at her daughter's home.

Vonnie was a model mother, homemaker and an excellent cook. Like many of her contemporaries, she was a smart and successful businesswoman, too, working side by side with her husband in their many ventures. She loved flowers, nature and gardening, baking, and especially her family. She was an impeccable housekeeper. She loved to read, write poetry and sing. She believed in always doing her best. Wherever she lived, she created a wonderful home for her family. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Vonnie had an unwavering faith in God.

Vonnie was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, William Bates. She was also predeceased by her parents, Richard and Alma Biller; sisters, Ellie Cooper, Lorraine Shydlowski, Marion Johns, Lucille Murphey; and brother, Jerry Biller.

She is survived by her sisters Virginia Langille, Dixie Walters, Pat McDowell and husband Mac; her brothers, Bob Biller and wife, Sharron; Ken Biller and wife, Patti; and brother-in-law, Bud Cooper; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Vonnie is also survived by her son, John Strom and wife. Marcy; daughter, Valerie Coffman and husband,  Mike; daughter, Debbie Carlsen and husband, Russ; granddaughter, Kate Robertson and husband, Ian; and great-granddaughter, Lily.

The family will receive friends and family on Thursday , October 25, at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Draper, WI, with a funeral service to follow at 11. Internment will be in the Draper Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers include Bud Cooper, Mac McDowell, Russ Carlsen, Mike Coffman, Ian Robertson, Kevin Walters, Joe Loch and Rick Johns.
