Sister Cecilia Olle, O.P.

Sister Cecilia Olle, O.P., 104, passed away at Siena Center, Racine on Friday, October 8, 2010.

Marie Anne Olle was born January 6, 1906, to Thomas and Christine (nee: Roeschen) Olle in Racine, WI. On August 30, 1924, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1925 she was given the religious name Sister Cecilia. She professed her first vows in 1927 and her final vows in 1933.

Sister Cecilia spent many years in service to others by teaching music. She began her ministry in 1925 at St. Bernard, Madison, WI. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Augustine, Wausaukee; Holy Angels, Milwaukee; Holy Cross, Kaukauna; St. Mary, Kenosha; and St. Rose, St. Edward, St. Catherine Convent, the School of Music, and Dominican College, Racine. She also served in Michigan. When she became a resident at Siena Center in 1970 she continued to give private music lessons until 1994.

Sister Cecilia is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers Vincent and Thomas; and her sister Cecilia Wood.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.

The Racine Dominicans would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Supportive Living who cared for Sister Cecilia at Siena Center.

Sister Cecilia gave me a thorough exposure to music. I graduated in '62 with a B MUS Ed. I have been active in the field since '62 and am still competitive with musicians many years younger than I am. Thank You Sister Cecilia and Sister Cordula for a good education.
