Stephan 'Steve' A. Cikel

Stephan A. Cikel, age 92, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center. Steve was born in Racine, January 23, 1918, son of the late Steven and Julia (Nee: Jurik) Cikel.

During World War II he proudly served as Sergeant in the United States Army stationed in the South Pacific and Europe. On June 26, 1948, in Racine he was united in marriage to Inez H. Rogers. Steve was employed by Simmons, Oster Manufacturing, and retired from Young Radiator in 1983. He enjoyed repairing watches but more than anything treasured time spent with his family. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Inez; his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon G. (Steven) Robertson of Racine; his grandson, Aaron (Mineko) Sorensen of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Tia Sorensen; brothers, Emil (Edna) Cikel, Jerome Cikel, Edwin (Maryann) Cikel, all of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph (Oleta) Cikel and Rudolph (Patricia) Cikel; sister, Olga (Ervin) Paupore; and sister-in-law, Janice Cikel.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 15, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 728 Villa St., with Rev. Aaron Dolan officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Ridgewood for their loving and compassionate care given to Steve these past two years.
