Glenn Lopour

Glenn R. Lopour, age 72, was born to eternal life surrounded by his loving family and friends on Saturday, March 31, 2012, following a brave and courageous decade long battle with prostate cancer.

Glenn was born in Racine on October 13, 1939, to the late Frank and Mary (nee: Obal) Lopour. On May 4, 1968, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sheila Sipher, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church where he was a lifelong member.

Glenn served overseas in the United States Air Force from 1957-1960. Glenn was stationed in Japan where he worked on installing navigation systems for aircraft. Glenn was part of the team responsible for the installation of the first ILS system in Naha, Okinawa. After being honorably discharged from the United States Air Force, Glenn began working for Oster Manufacturing as a chemist until he was hired by Wisconsin Bell/AT&T as a systems engineer. After working for nearly 30 years for Wisconsin Bell/AT&T, Glenn retired in 1993. Glenn then pursued a career with TCG, serving as a fiber optic technician from 1995-2001 when he retired upon the diagnosis of his illness.

Glenn was an Eagle scout, a proud graduate of St. Catherine’s High School, Class of 1957, an active member of St. John Nepomuk parish, spent time coaching sports his children played, was a member of the phone company pioneers and the U.C.T. Glenn loved life. He fought hard to give his friends and family all the additional time he could. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his family, he enjoyed fishing, traveling, gardening and the Green Bay Packers. He had a passion for airplanes and air shows. Glenn enjoyed attending games at Lambeau Field and was a shareholder of the Green Bay Packers.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Sheila; children, Matthew Lopour of Kenosha, Kelly (George Zaleski) Heiselmann, and Lorrie (Jay) Robinson, all of Racine; five grandchildren, Abigail and Travis Lopour, Hailey Heiselmann, Tyler Robinson, Addison Zaleski; sister, Jackie Presta; brother, Warren (Ann) Lopour; mother-in-law, Delilah Taleck; sister-in-law, Nancy Dowler; brother-in-law, Melvin (Sandy Ericksen) Sipher; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Glenn was also preceded in death by his brother-in-laws, Louie Presta and Chuck Dowler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 1903 Green St., on  Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Don Zerkel officiating. Entombment with Full Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Monday, April 9, 2012, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass.

Joyce Enid Buehrens

Sturtevant -- Mrs. Joyce E. (nee: Watts) Buehrens, 82, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2012, in her home surrounded by family after a long illness.

Joyce was born in Chicago on December 29, 1929, to the late William and Myfanwy “Bonnie” (nee: Jones) Watts and has lived in the Racine area for the past 59 years. She was a graduate of Kenosha’s Mary D. Bradford High School class of 1947 and had attended two years of college at the U.W. extension center. She was united in marriage to Robert E. Buehrens on March 4, 1950; he preceded her in death on September 25, 2000.

Although she was a stay-at-home mother to her eight children for many years, Joyce had been formerly employed by the Racine Journal Times as a freelance writer and ARA services (Racine Unified hot lunch program) at Schulte School from 1973 to 1985. Joyce was also active in Faith Lutheran Church, the SWD-LWML where she held various positions, the Christian Service League, Women’s Bible Study, Sunday School Superintendent, Adult Bible Class, a volunteer at the RLHS Thrift Store, formerly active as the VBS Superintendent, and Girl Scouts of Racine County. With the Girl Scouts, she had been a troop leader, day camp director, counselor and, most importantly, cookie sale chairman. Joyce also loved camping, hiking, traveling, knitting, sewing, crocheting, swimming and was a Jeopardy wiz. But most of all, she made many lasting friendships and was a loving mother to all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joyce will be dearly missed by her children, Trudy (Dave) Kristopeit, Nancy (James) Brichacek, Eileen (Wendell) Zirbel, Linda (Patrick) Polcin, Henry Buehrens, Mary (James) Sandberg, Richard (Mary) Buehrens, and James (Marie) Buehrens; grandchildren, Michael (Rachel) Kristopeit, Katie (Kevin) Hagen, Joshua (Suzanne) Kristopeit, Jason (Jeannette) Zirbel, Jeremy (Leanne) Zirbel, Heidi (Spencer) Frost, Wendy Polcin, Jamie, Robert and Holly Sandberg, Austin and Andrew Buehrens, Amanda (Casey) Hollander, Ryan and Rebecca Buehrens; great-grandchildren, Haley, Carley, Corra, Carter, Gus, Maggie, Harper, Cheyenne, Damon, Ava, Kennedy and Brooklyn; her sisters, Phyllis Gordon, Lois (Bill) Mellen, Susie Hatch; sister-in-law, June Foth; cousins, Eleanor (Bob) Holtz and Joan Wooten; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, four brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law.

Funeral services in honor of Joyce will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 8500 Durand Ave., on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jeffery Mortenson and Rev. Jason Zirbel officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Chester Charles Szymczak

Chester C. Szymczak, 94, passed away on March 29, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints just three days short of his 95th birthday.

He was born in Racine on April 1, 1917, to the late Joseph and Zophia (nee: Lizik) Szymczak and had lived his entire life in Racine. He was a Washington Park High School graduate of 1935. On August 23, 1944, he was united in marriage to Caroline (nee: Szczepanski); she preceded him in death in September of 2005.

Chester was inducted into the United States Army Air Corps on May 12, 1941. He served his country as an Army aerial reconnaissance photographer and photo gunner. He mapped the Alaskan Canadian (ALCAN) Highway, photographed enemy installations in the South Pacific and was instrumental in resolving border and mapping disputes in South America, including the Amazon River. His geographical assignments included Alaska, Central America, Columbia, Peru, New Guinea, The Philippines and Moratai. His decorations and citations included The American Defense Service Ribbon, and the Army Air Corps Air Medal. He was honorably discharged as a Tech Sergeant from the US Army Air Corps on October 13, 1945.

Upon returning from World War II, Chester founded Caroline Studios, which specialized in the emerging photographic field of children and weddings. He was employed by the United States Post Office from 1947 through 1977, where he started his career as a postal carrier. He was promoted to foreman, supervisor, manager, and eventually held the title of Superintendent of Mails, one of the top management positions at the Racine Post Office.

Chester’s early interest in photography became a lifelong passion. During the 1960s, his photos won numerous awards and were hung at the Wustum Museum. He was an expert in black and white darkroom photography. Today, his photography is part of the Benson Latin American Collection at the University of Texas. His other passion was woodworking and wood sculpturing. Inspired by modernist artists such as Calder and Picasso, his sculptures reflected his artistic views on life and politics. His other interests included gardening, writing and Sudoku. He was an avid tennis player well known for his well placed and deadly “dink shots.” He and his wife, Caroline, enjoyed traveling, dancing, fishing and sailing at their weekend getaway at Army Lake. Many family birthdays and holidays were spent at “the lake.” His incredible mind, creative storytelling and imagination will be missed by all.

Chester will be dearly missed by his five children, Carol (Richard) Nelson of Moorestown, NJ, Robert Szymczak (Phyllis) of Racine, Jeanne Szymczak Timber of Taos, NM, Joan (Ronald) Koptis of Yucca Valley, CA, and Daniel (Patricia) Szymczak of Racine; nine grandchildren, Joannah, Erik, Erin, Mark, Gregory, Alissa, Ian, Alaina and Angela; six great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Neva, Henry, Rowan, Eleanor and Eli. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Genevieve; and brother, Eugene.

A Memorial Mass in honor of Chester will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Ave., on Monday, April 2, 2012, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Allen Bratkowski officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to meet at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Jack Edward Berry Jr.

Jack E. Berry Jr., 61, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on March 26, 2012.

Jack was born in Chicago, IL, to Jack E. Sr. and Dorothy (nee: Roush) Berry on April 27, 1950. He lived in Racine for 13 years. While Jack was dating his future wife, he learned enough Danish to ask her to marry him, proposing to her at their favorite restaurant, Helen & Craig’s Bistro. Jack married Helle Koustrup at Gethsemane Lutheran Church on October 7, 2000.

Jack earned an associate degree in Liberal Arts from Loop Jr. College. He was a van driver in the expediting industry and worked most of his life in the freight industry. Jack was blessed with a wonderful voice and also did voice work with radio at the Fish 105.3.

Jack was an active member of Racine Assembly of God. He volunteered as a greeter and was involved in the Royal Family Kids Camp. Because of his special voice, he was also a reader and narrator for plays held at the church. He was a longtime member of Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Jack was a leader in making his own fuel. He made his own biodiesel fuel and had many articles written about him and his biodiesel. Jack was not a follower by any means. He did not follow the natural order of the “to does” because he was a “Jack of all trades.”

Jack will be dearly missed by his wife, Helle; his children, Gregory E. Berry, William R. Berry and Carl K. Wilcox; his mother, Dorothy Berry; his first wife and continued friend, Mary Berry; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack E. Sr.

Jack’s noble wishes were to have his body donated to ALS Research at Northwestern University and to be cremated. A memorial service at Racine Assembly of God will be planned for sometime in late June or early July 2012. Cynthia L. (Pierce) Murphy

Surrounded by her loving family, Cynthia L. Murphy, age 59, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2012, after a courageous battle with ALS. She was born in Milton, WI, on October 28, 1952, daughter of Gailen A. and the late Janice V. (Nee: Graves) Pierce, where she grew up on a dairy farm.

Cynthia left the farm her senior year at Milton High School to study government. She studied history at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and four years later switched to law, graduating in 1978, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Moving to Racine in 1978 she began her career as a trial attorney with the State of Wisconsin Public Defender’s Office, where she tried numerous jury trials including high-profile murder cases. She left the public defender’s office in 1985 to go into private practice, Murphy, Paulson & Murphy, S.C., and concentrated in the family law area. Cynthia handled all types of law cases including divorce, legal separation, child custody and support.

 She served as a speaker at family law seminars, served and was actively involved on numerous boards for various agencies, including the YWCA and Women’s Resource Center. In 1999 she was the recipient of the “Woman Entrepreneur of the Year” by the Women’s Business Association and was awarded the “Volunteer of the Year” by the Racine County Bar Association. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Through her experiences in family law, Cynthia was always very conscious of the concept of family, and cherished every moment with her own family. She raised four children with love and care. Cynthia will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her children, Matthew Johnson of Milwaukee, WI, Rebecca Johnson (Frank) Fortino of Spring Grove, IL, Courtney (Chris) Dembiec of Winona, MN, Quinn Murphy of Sheboygan, WI; her father, Gailen A. Pierce of Milton, WI; brothers and sister, Allen (Gayle) Pierce of LaCrosse, WI, Gordon (Patricia) Pierce of Sullivan, WI, Sally V. (James) Neitzel of Racine, Michael (Mary) Pierce of Milton, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

A Memorial Service celebrating Cynthia’s life will be held Thursday, March 29, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 745 Main St., with Rev. Brad Van Fossen officiating. Gregory Allen Dawson Sr.

Gregory Allen Dawson Sr. went home to be with the lord on March 25, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. Gregory was born to the union of Joe and Alvalone Dawson on November 25, 1960, in Racine, WI, the youngest of nine children. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Greater St. Luke's Baptist Church under leadership of the late Reverend E.E. Woods and continued his faith in God until his death.

He was employed as a driver at the Charter Bus Company. He attended Racine public schools, and was a graduate of Park High School, Class of '78. His hobbies included restoring old collector cars, and being around his family and friends.
Gregory leaves to cherish the memory of his life his mother, Alvalone Dawson; his children, Takeisha, Shareka, Greg Jr, Julius and Florence Shanea; 13 grandchildren, Quayshawn, Charmaine, Kwalah, Kwayah, J'Veion, Jerrion, Cimayah, Jazmine, Ra'Janae, Nahsire, Jamarrion, Aderria and Da'Ryiah. He is survived by his children's mothers, Darlene Billups and Charlene Wilson. He is also survived by four brothers, Calvin (Carmen), Austin (Marie) Dawson, Donald and Timmy (Missy) Churchwell; three sisters, JoAnn (Charles) Scales, Lenora Lambright and Jessie (Henry) Riddle; and a host of nieces nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father; Joe N; daughter, Toni; three brothers, Jersey, Jerry and Nate; maternal grandparents, Thomas and Florence Payne; paternal grandparents, Jim and Janie Dawson; uncles, aunts, niece, nephews and special friends Judy Williams and Dwight Lambright.

Nancy Jane Ferg

Mrs. Nancy J. (nee: Sorenson) Ferg, 91, passed away on March 24, 2012, at Elizabeth Residence.

Nancy was born in Racine to the late Peter and Minnie (nee: Bradley) Sorenson on July 19, 1920. In March of 1939, she was united in marriage to Harold E. Ferg. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1980. Over the years, she had been employed at Badger Shirt Manufacturing, Hamilton Beach Manufacturing, and Wisconsin Small Motors (WSM).

Nancy was best known for her warm personality and friendly smile. She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, and loved to knit, crochet, solve crossword puzzles and go for long car rides. She especially loved spending time with her family and made many friends wherever she went.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Phyllis (Kenneth) Buss of Hudson, FL; son, Dennis (Marilyn)Ferg; and two daughters-in-law, Marlene Ferg and Mardell Ferg, all of Racine; 17 grandchildren, Jerry (Selena) Ferg II, Liz Hogan, Bunnie Ferg, Richard Ferg, Ronald (Julie) Ferg, Cathleen Ferg, Cindi (Kevin) Bohn, Ken Buss, Scott Buss, Mike Buss, Bridget (Keith) Stanley, Sarah (Matt) Fonk, Jennifer (Ben) Vogelman, Christine (Nick) Schmidt, Jared (Heather) Ferg, Melinda (Joel) Espinosa, and Haley Ferg; 27 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Ferg; three sons, Gerald Ferg, Ronald Ferg and Harold Ferg Jr.; grandchildren, Douglas Ferg and Colleen Ferg; great-grandchild, Morgan Schmidt; great-great-grandchild, Zachary Jensen; two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services in honor of Nancy will be held at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 322 Ohio St., on Friday, March 30, 2012, at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Barsch officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. George Edward Rykal

George E. Rykal, 85, passed away comfortably at his home at Fountain Hills Apartments on March 24, 2012.

George was born in Goetz, WI, to Charles and Anna (nee: Burich) Rykal on April 28, 1926. He graduated from Cadott High School in the class of 1945. From August 19, 1952, thru August 18, 1954, George proudly served in the United States Army as a Supply Sergeant in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. During this time on July 21, 1953, he married Ruth Martha Zenner at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Sturtevant.  Ruth also preceded him in death from cancer on October 31, 1975.  George and Ruth had three children: Diane Ruth, Dennis Edward and Sue Ann.

In Racine at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, George was united in marriage to Donna Mae (nee: Mueller) Klaus on November 30, 1979. He worked 30 years for Advanced Mechanical as a Journeyman Plumber and was a member of Local #118. He retired in 1988.

George was a member of Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church in which he served as an Usher for many years. He was a very proud Bohemian. He enjoyed making his favorite caraway kraut and loved to cook out. George also enjoyed tending to his beautiful roses and raising vegetables “out on Jeff’s farm.” On television, he always had a good western to view. George loved his Poker Club on Monday evenings until approximately three weeks ago.

George will be dearly missed by his wife, Donna Mae; his children, Diane (Tom) Zacharias, Dennis Rykal and Sue (Owen) McKivitt; his step-children, Jeffrey (Susan) Klaus and Lynda (Jeffrey) Berard; his grandchildren, Sara (Ryan) Tennessen, Laura Creuziger, Jessica (Rob) Kinsley, Donovan McKivett, Joe (Christina) Klaus, Jessica (John) Ward, Trevor Berard, Krysta (Mohamud) Abdi and Rebecca Berard; his great-grandchildren, Addyson Berard, Jocelynn Ward, Morgan Tennessen and two more “on the way”; his brothers, Charles Jr. (Katie) Rykal and Lyle (Anna Mae) Rykal; his sisters, Dorothy VoWinkel and Donna (Gerald) Aubart; sisters-in-law, Shirley Zenner, Ann Felton, Carole (Arnold) Fickau and Nancy (Peter) McGow; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends and neighbors at Fountain Hills, which George and his wife, Donna, called home for over 10 years. He was further preceded in death by an infant brother, Donald Rykal, in 1934.

A memorial celebration will be held at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, 1700 S. Green Bay Road, on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Kara Baylor officiating. Inurnment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park Chapel with full military honors. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. service time. Memorials may be directed to Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church.

Phillip A. Morelli

After successfully beating lymphoma in 2004 and a courageous battle with prostate cancer since 2007, Phillip A. Morelli, 86, passed away peacefully at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints hospital on Friday, March 23, 2012.

Phil was born in Racine, WI, on January 1, 1926, to the late Eugene and Jennie (nee: LaMantia) Morelli. Phil was a 1944 graduate of Washington Park High School. He faithfully served our country with the United States Army from 1944-1946 (Troop H, Eighth Cavalry – 1st Cavalry Division).

On July 8, 1950, in a double ceremony with brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jack and Mary Hanson, Phil was united in marriage with the love of his life, Myrtle H. Hanson, and was married 52 years until her death in 2003. He was proud of his 50-year career in automobile sales management, many of those years with American Motors (Rambler). He loved the Milwaukee Brewers, the Green Bay Packers, jazz music, movies and, of course, Frank Sinatra.

Surviving are his son Stephen (LeeAnn); nephew, Mark Hanson (Anne); niece, Ann Ardyth Rodrigues (David); and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, wife and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Phil was preceded in death by his niece, Diane Fisher.

A funeral service celebrating Phil’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Deacon Howard Wirtz officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 until time of service at 7 p.m. A private burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Kinzie Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.

Robert L. Brenneman

Robert L. Brenneman, age 80, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Robert was born in Nichols, Iowa, on October 24, 1931, son of the late Lester C. and Mathilda A. (Nee: Swanson) Brenneman.

During the Korean War Robert served in the United States Air Force. On June 19, 1959, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth J. Skinner. Robert was employed by the Racine Unified School District and taught at Washington Junior High, Gilmore Middle School and lastly at Walden III. He was a charter member of the International Folk Dance Group in Racine. Robert was an avid gardener, had a great love for music and enjoyed singing with the Racine Dairy Statesmen, the DeKoven Men’s Chorus, the Trinity United Methodist Choir and the Unitarian Universalist Church Choir. More than anything, he cherished time spent with his family and will be deeply missed.

William T. Butterfield

William Thomas Butterfield, “Bill,” age 70, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. He was born in Racine, November 6, 1941, son of the late Richard and Henrietta (Nee: Bonkowski) Butterfield.

Bill graduated from Washington Park High School “Class of 1959.” He served in the National Guard from 1959 – 1960. On July 1, 1960, in Racine he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Susan K. Lawrence. That same year Bill joined the firm of Al J. Seitz Associates and found his calling as a draftsman. Upon completing his education as an architect, he became a partner with Chuck Seitz for many years. Following Chuck’s retirement, the business was renamed Butterfield-Rudy and Seitz. Bill loved architecture and was proud of the many fine buildings he created. He was respected by all for the detailed drawings he made. He loved collecting Maxfield Parrish Art, traveling and was an avid fisherman. Above all, Bill was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. He will be deeply missed.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Sue; children, Jeffrey Butterfield (Lilly Ramirez), Kelly (Jim) Wegner, Tracy Butterfield; grandchildren, Ryan Ventura, Dino Ventura, Drew Butterfield, Emily Egresi, Tiffany Butterfield; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marie “Ellie” Janczak, David Lawrence, Pat Lesniewski, Fred (Sheila) Lawrence, Tim Lawrence, Patrick (Rebecca) Lawrence, Beverly Lawrence; nieces, nephew, other relatives and dear friends. Aidee (Luis) Covelli

Surrounded by her loving family, Aidee Covelli, age 33, passed away Monday, March 19, 2012, at Season’s Hospice House, Waukesha, WI, following complications from a liver transplant. Aidee was born in Chicago, IL, on December 21, 1978, daughter of Israel Luis Sr. and Florina (Nee: Nevarez).

She was a graduate of William Horlick High School. On May 17, 2003, in Green Lake, WI she was united in marriage to Paul Covelli. Aidee was employed by Saginaw Engineering Controls. She was an active and lifelong member of Cristo Rey Catholic Church. She loved dancing and was involved in many cultural events and community projects including Club Tlacolula, Oaxaca, the Hispanic Roundtable, The Spanish Tenant Training Committee and as a facilitator for Study Circles.

Survivors include her husband, Paul; her parents, Israel (Angelina) Luis, Florina (Christopher) Croson; her brothers, Israel Luis Jr., Mario Luis, Abraham Luis; her grandparents, Celia Castillo, Don and Mary Croson, Emilia Covelli; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert (Heather) Covelli, Jennifer Covelli; mother-in-law, Marsha Covelli; father-in-law, Paul Covelli Sr.; other relatives and dear friends.

David E. Liljegren

David E. Liljegren, age 79, passed away Monday, March 19, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. David was born in Dayton, Iowa, on December 8, 1932, son of the late Wilmer and Margaret (Nee: Quinn) Liljegren.

David was a graduate of Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He was employed for over thirty years by Case High School in Wisconsin, where he taught music and was subsequently a guidance counselor. David was an active member in numerous professional organizations, including Phi Delta Kappa and the Wisconsin School Counselors Association. He served as president of the Southeast Wisconsin Guidance and Personnel Association, and was secretary-treasurer of the National Association of College Admission Counselors.

During the Korean War David served as a Corporal in the United States Army. On January 31, 1958, he was united in marriage to Alvina M. Love. Their son, David A. Liljegren, was born in 1960 and until his heart failed on February 19, 2000, was a source of great joy and pride to his parents. David and his family enjoyed travel, and traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. David was an active member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church. His pastimes included reading and crossword puzzles. He was a devoted and loving husband and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-four years, Alvina; his son, Chanhday (Liane) Phanhdara of San Pablo, CA; his three grandchildren, Susan (William) Grandt, Mark (Eileen) Liljegren, Ann (Roy) Snyder; brother, Richard Liljegran of Dayton, Ohio; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, David A. Liljegren, on February 19, 2000; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Liljegren.

Arline Ruth (Larsen) Dahlquist, Sr.

Arline Ruth Dahlquist, Sr. (nee: Larsen) lived a long and full life of 92 years. The last few years were a particular challenge, because of debilitating and chronic arthritis pain, in addition to frequent hospitalizations with congestive heart failure and pneumonia. After months of discussion, she decided to let nature take its course and peacefully passed away at her home on Sunday, March 18, 2012. Gratitude is extended to Hospice Alliance for guidance and compassion throughout these last few weeks.

Arline was dedicated to family, friends and country. She had been active in numerous service organizations. As a disabled American veteran from World War II, through service in the Women's Army Corps, she met her husband, had a private tea and White House tour with Eleanor Roosevelt, and held office in the Disabled American Veterans. Arline was also a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, PTA officer, Kiwanis Youth Symphony and Scouts Bugle Corps parent group member, and a parent volunteer extending past her eighty-sixth birthday, at the schools where her daughter was a teacher with RUSD. Spanning more than eighty years of service to her country and community, Arline felt it was important to be involved and give to others. The family includes many serving in the military, teachers, firemen, policeman, Scout leaders and even Sunday school teachers.

Despondent over the loss of so many family and friends, especially her husband of 53 years, Olaf Dahlquist, who passed away in 2000; her son, Russell Dahlquist; grandson, Ted Brigham; brother and close friend, Ralph Larson; granddaughter, Heidi Dahlquist in 2011; and daughter-in-law, Joyce Dahlquist in 2012, Arline found it difficult to believe that so many had passed away before her. Born in Racine, and a lifetime resident, she had traveled the country and enjoyed numerous hobbies. Her parents were James Louis and Amanda Louise (Steingraeber) Larsen.

Family was her pride and joy, including four children and spouses: Russ (Virginia, then Ann), Jim (Joyce), Arline, and Dorothy (Earl); nine grandchildren and spouses: Steven Olaf, Heidi (Scott), Rebecca (Andy), Heather (Marc), Amanda Arline (Brandon), Michael, Tim (Brittany), Ted, Daniel Olaf (Adrienne), and Amyu; and twelve great-grand-children: Christian, Gabriel, Silas, Ben, Jake, Megan, Connor, Egan , Gabriel Olaf, Foster, Scotlyn, and Avery. Other family ties include her sister, Mildred Petersen; cousins, Donna Hansen and Cyndi Bitto; niece, Shelley Christenson and Alice Petersen; nephews, Ross and Randy Larson, Leonard and Ralph Olaf Petersen. There are many more to say farewell, including Acklams and Palmers, and special friends and neighbors Richard and Sandy Fear.

A private funeral and internment was held on Wednesday, March 21. In her memory, Arline would want everyone to regularly extend an act of kindness, especially to those who are serving, or who have served their country.

Carol L. Jansen

Carol L. Jansen, age 81, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012, at her residence. Carol was born in Racine on December 6, 1930, daughter of Marvin and Irene (Nee: Spencer) Jansen.

Throughout her life, Carol was employed as a bookkeeper for a violinist, working in San Diego, Los Angeles and Chicago, before retiring and spending her last twenty years in Racine near her family. She loved animals and her beloved cat “Sweetheart” who will miss her dearly.

She is also survived by her sister, Bernadine (Jack) Frank of Waukesha; her niece, Allison (Brett) Mogden and their daughter, Shanna Rose, all of Sussex; numerous cousins, relatives, and friends including cousins, Ellen Shukis, of Whately, MA, Irene and Janie Parent, Jean (Leon) Robles and family, all of Racine, who loved her very much.

Brian T. Golden, age 29, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012 at Mendota Hospital, Madison, WI.

Brian was born in Racine on August 26, 1982, son of Johnny and Letha (Nee: Griffin) Golden.

He is survived by his mother, Letha Marshall; sisters, Maryann Griffin, Yolanda Golden; brother, Joshua Devon Johnson; and a host of other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Golden.

Sister Rita Vander Velden, O.P.

Sister Rita Vander Velden, O.P., 91, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine, WI, on Friday March 16, 2012.

Bernice Julietta Vander Velden was born July 13, 1920, to Martin and Gertrude (nee: LeRoy) Vander Velden in Kimberly, WI. On August 30, 1938, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1939 she was given the religious name Sister Rita. She professed her first vows in 1941 and her final vows in 1947.

Sister Rita spent many years in service to others in teaching and secretarial work and as an assistant librarian. She began her ministry in 1940 at St. Edward, Racine,WI. She also served at St. Rita, Holy Name and St. Catherine High School in Racine. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Aloysius, Sauk City; St. Bernard, Madison; Holy Angels, Milwaukee; St. Andrew, Knowles; SS. Peter & Paul, Green Bay; Holy Name, Kimberly; St. John, Little Chute. She also served inNew Mexico and Alaska. After retiring in 1994 she continued to volunteer at St. Catherine High School and did Community Service at Siena Center. In March 2012 she moved to Lakeshore Manor, Racine.

Sister Rita is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her brother Thomas (Carol); sister Bette Derus; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers Robert, Clarence, Wallace Eugene and Francis; and sisters Elaine Wiatrowski and Grace Sauerbreit.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Tuesday, March 20, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Sister Thomasina Zajac, O.P.

Sister Thomasina Zajac, O.P., 92, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine, WI, on Friday, March 16, 2012.

Balbina was born March 27, 1919, to Thomas and Angela (nee: Schliesmans) Zajac in Wausaukee, WI. On August 31, 1935, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1937 she was given the religious name Sister Thomasina. She professed her first vows in 1939 and her final vows in 1945.

Sister Thomasina spent many years in service to others in teaching. She began her ministry in 1938 at Holy Name, Racine. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Bernard, Madison; St. Benedict, Milwaukee; St. Aloysius, Sauk City; St. Patrick, Racine; St. Mary, Tomah; SS. Peter & Paul, Green Bay; Holy Cross, Kaukauna; Sacred Heart School and Chippewa Valley Technical College, Eau Claire. She also served in Michigan. From 1985-2001 and she did cross-culture work with Hmong refugees in Eau Claire. She became a resident at Siena Center in 2001. In August 2011 she moved to Lakeshore Manor.

Sister Thomasina is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; nephew, John Barnes; and many Hmong friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Catherine Bist; nephews, Thomas, Paul and Bernard Bist; and niece, Barbara Barnes.

Diane M. Benish

Diane M. Benish, age 57, passed away Friday March 16, 2012, at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee, following a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Racine, September 15, 1954, the third of ten children of Willard and Eleanor (Nee: Barstow) Benish.

Diane enjoyed playing cards, swimming and searching for the best deal at rummage sales and thrift shops. Her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her grandkids. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her son, Chris (Kelly) Benish; her four beloved grandchildren, Crystal, Christian, Christina and Kayla; her parents Willard and Eleanor Benish; her siblings, Florence (Virgil) Michels, Tom (Sue) Benish, Cindy Benish, Mark (Sheri) Benish, Sandy (Dana) Lawrence, Tim (Traci) Benish, Theresa (Morris) Sims, Lisa (Jack) Tcheordikian; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Audrey Kathryn Minton

Kenosha - Audrey Kathryn (nee: Christensen) Minton, 83, passed away peacefully at Brookside Care Center, Kenosha, WI, on Thursday, March 15, 2012.

Audrey was born on December 8, 1928, in Kenosha, WI, to the late Edith and Bert Christensen. She spent much of her life on the family farm in Somers, WI.

Audrey graduated with the class of 1946 from Racine County Agricultural School in Rochester.

On April 19, 1947, Audrey was united in marriage to George Dewey Minton on his birthday at the Somers Congregational Church. She was employed for many years at Southern Wisconsin Center. She was a member of the Jaycampers Club. Audrey loved to read and enjoyed many craft projects. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress and a 4-H leader.

Audrey was a wealthy woman, rich in family and love. She was a wonderful grandma and great-grandma.

Audrey is survived by her eight children, Kathryn (Edward) Harmann, Amy (James) Leskowicz, Dan (Suzanne) Minton, Marcia (Michael) LaPointe, Beth Demant, Joel (Constance) Minton, Jeffrey (Debra) Minton and Laurie (Paul) Willems; 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; her brother, Larry Christensen; sisters-in-law, Anita Christensen, Melba Jester and Joyce Martinson; special cousin, Phyllis Borger; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; Edith and Bert Christensen; two brothers, Lynn Christensen and Lloyd Christensen; one sister, Janice Schultz; two grandsons, Christian Willems and Joel Minton, Jr.

Jeri Cushman

Jeri Cushman, age 76, passed away March 15, 2012. Her gallant spirit carried her through six weeks of difficult therapy following surgery for a hip fracture and a second operation for hip replacement. In spite of her intense determination to recover, she finally succumbed to further complications.

She was born May 28, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri, daughter of Jerome and Katherine (nee Lacey) Bredall. On September 11, 1960, she was married to Stephen Marshall Cushman, Jr.

Jeri graduated from MacMurray College, Jacksonville, Illinois, with a BA in psychology and from Northwestern School of Nursing, Chicago, with an R.N. Upon graduation from Northwestern, Jeri worked in the ICU at Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital and then in the recovery room. From 1973-1985 she was the school nuPublish Postrse at Prairie
School, Racine. She taught cardiopulmonary resuscitation in Racine from 1976-1979. Jeri worked as staff nurse at Trinity Memorial Hospital, Cudahy, Wisconsin, from 1987-1994.

A dedicated volunteer, Jeri served our community many ways. She was a volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital, Racine, a member of the Racine Visiting Nurse Association Corporate Board, St. Luke's Hospital Board of Trustees, and the St. Luke's Episcopal Church vestry. She served as president of the Racine County Medical Society Auxiliary, chairman of the Health Careers Medical Exploring Post, and Patron Chairman of St. Luke's Hospital Benefit Party. Her positions in the Wisconsin State Medical Society Auxiliary included: Chairman of the Harrington-Wright Scholarship (Allied Health), Secretary and Vice-President of the Auxiliary, Alliance Legislative Chairman, and chairman of the Alliance Day at the Capitol. Jeri was Board member of the Wisconsin State Medical Society Governmental Affairs Commission, the Wisconsin Physicians Political Action Committee, and a Board member of the Wisconsin Medical Society Physicians Alliance Commission. She was a member of the board of directors of the DeKoven Foundation in Racine for many years. For all of her hard work and dedication, Jeri was nominated for Racine Woman of the year in 1985.

In addition to devoting endless energy to her volunteer work, Jeri had many interests that included sailing, snow skiing, traveling and especially her husband, children and grandchildren. Her lasting interest in sailing included several family sailing trips and reached its pinnacle when she became coordinator of the Sail Racine Tall Ships Festival in 1993 and again in 1998.

Surviving are her husband, Marshall; son, Stephen (Martha Pfarr) Cushman, Milwaukee; daughter, Susan (Michael Mauk), Austin, Texas; a sister, Julie Rovics, St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Margo, Christian, Georgea Cushman, Ellie and Grace Mauk and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will take place on Friday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at The DeKoven Center Great Hall, 600 21st St., Racine, WI, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. John's Chapel, DeKoven Center. Private interment will take place at Mound Cemetery.

Dominic LoPiccalo, Jr.

Elkhorn, WI -- Dominic LoPiccalo, Jr., age 91, passed away on March 15, 2012. Dominic was born on October 22, 1920, to Dominic and Mary Ann (Lupo) LoPiccalo, Sr. in Pontiac, IL. He lived and attended school in Pontiac. He served in the 102nd Infantry in the European Theater during WWII from 1942 - 1946. He married Victoria A. Comande on July 5, 1952, in Racine, WI. They lived in Chicago, IL, until moving back to Racine in 1962.

Dom worked for A & P Grocery Stores while living in Chicago. After a series of heart attacks, he worked at various jobs, until he retired from Mettler Toledo Scale of Franksville, WI, in 1985 as a set-up technician. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 10301 and a past commander. He was also a member of AMVETS and a past state commander. He worked a mean crossword puzzle, loved number puzzles, and was an avid cribbage player all of his life and won many tournaments. He played his last cribbage game on Monday and he “skunked” his opponent. For many years he played poker at Sacred Heart Church every Wednesday night and he was incredibly lucky at bingo.

He was a master fisherman and could always catch a fish. He loved ice fishing in Wisconsin and trout fishing on the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River in Idaho. He was an expert gardener, a great cook, and read the Chicago Tribune every day. He had a quick wit, a kind word for everyone, and a wonderful sense of humor that will be deeply missed.

He is survived by two daughters, Anne M. (Haydie LeCorbeiller) LoPiccalo of Pocatello, Idaho, and Lisa F. (Dennis) Hale of Elkhorn; one granddaughter, Katherine C. LoPiccalo of Santa Cruz, CA, a step-granddaughter, Lisa Joy Hale; two great-great-grandchildren, Martin and Aidan Hale of Elkhorn; and by his sister-in-law, Isabelle Comande (Nick) of Racine. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Victoria A. Dad lived at Gates Hall Assisted Living at the Wisconsin VA in Union Grove for seven years where he had excellent care and a remarkable quality of life with wonderful, caring people who took care of him as their own grandpa. Dad spent his final months at Holton Manor in Elkhorn and under the care of Odyssey Hospice of Milwaukee. The family would like to thank both staffs for their compassionate and loving care.

Patti (Prochaska) Drought

Patti Drought, age 51, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at her residence. She was born in Menomonie, WI, on April 24, 1961, daughter of the late Douglas and Katherine (Nee: Hoyt) Prochaska.

Patti was employed by University of Wisconsin-Parkside. She was a member of the Raymond TrailBreakers and had a great love for dogs and her cat, Ms Money.

Surviving are her step-father, James Henrichs; her brother, Steven Prochaska; her sister, Tammi (Joseph) Wolnik; sister-in-law, Cathy Prochaska; brother-in-law, Kenneth Rosenow; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Rosenow, and a brother, Michael Prochaska.

Clara A. (Bethge) Nelson

Clara A. Nelson, age 97, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center. Clara was born in Madison, WI, on March 8, 1915, daughter of the late Richard and Ida (Nee: Persinski) Bethge.

On January 3, 1953, she was united in marriage to Marshall Nelson, who preceded her in death on September 27, 1984. Clara was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed rummaging and with her husband owned and operated Nelson’s secondhand store in Racine in the 1960s. Clara also enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, and in her younger years traveling the world. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and a wonderful friend to everyone she knew. She always had a smile on her face and loved being with her family at all times. She’ll be dearly missed.

Survivors include her sons, David (Valerie) Nelson of Harrisburg, AR, Richard (Vickie) Nelson of Racine; stepson, Eugene (Mercedez) Hall of Racine; 21 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ida Sandle of Menomonie, WI; special friends, Maxine and Cheryl Westbrook of Rhinelander, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Arlene (John) Polansky; stepson, Marshall Nelson Jr.; sisters, Martha Hein, Louise (Harry) Seberg; and brother, Richard Bethge.

Alison Anne Hill

Child of her loving parents, Nancy and Jim Hill, who have placed her in the gentle cradle of God’s eternal love. Alison is also survived by her Aunt Barbara Lofthus and Barbara’s three sons, Richard Rebne, Ronald Rebne and Robb Rebne and their families; her Aunt Ejl O’Keefe and Uncle Victor O’Keefe and their daughter, Dr. Shannon O’Keefe; and also by other relatives and friends and the dogs she loved, Patty and Daisy. She was preceded in death by blood grandparents, Arnold and Emily Lofthus, and Norman and Lillian Hill and by “adopted” grandparents, Leonard and Stella Burrows and Harvey and Jeannette Jensen. Alison loved them all.

Happenings in this world: Welcomed to this world on September 19, 1979. While her journey in this world was only 32 years long, she crammed much into those years. Attended Stephen Bull Fine Arts School where she acted and sang the part of the lion in Wizard of Oz. Attended St. Catherine’s High School and displayed her talents on the tennis court and in the classroom, graduating as one of the valedictorians. She next followed her parents’ educational path to Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, where she continued playing tennis and studied abroad in France. She also participated in interim programs in New Zealand (bungie-jumping from a bridge and sea kayaking) plus an interim in Hawaii. She graduated from Luther summa cum laude.

Following in her father’s career path, she enrolled at Notre Dame Law School and became an Associate Editor of the Law Review, graduating cum laude. After passing the Wisconsin bar exam, she accepted an associate attorney position at a Milwaukee law firm. Illness then invaded her life and the severe post-herpetic pain in a nerve in her head resulting from a bout of shingles in law school caused her to stop her work as an attorney and further prevented her from other employment. She bravely battled the increasingly severe nerve pain episodes with many trips to doctors and emergency rooms. She was released from this world of pain on March 13, 2012.

Happenings in the next world: As a child of God, she now lives in Pure Light and Everlasting Joy.

A celebration of Ali’s life will be held at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Racine, Wisconsin, on Saturday, March 24, 2012, commencing at 11 a.m., Pastors Bill Grimbol and Walter Hermanns officiating. Memorials to the Holy Communion Lutheran Church food pantry, Luther College or St. Catherine’s High School are suggested by Alison’s family.

Arthur M. Ruben

Aventura, FL -- Arthur M. Ruben, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2012, at the age of 97, at the Sterling in Aventura where he resided for two years.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Genevieve (nee Silverman). He was the loving father of Risë (Richard) Kaiser of Milwaukee, WI, and Arnold (Shari) Ruben. He is also survived by his four dear grandchildren, Moishe (Sarah) Ruben of Madison, WI, Merise Greenberg, Shoshanah Kaiser and Marnie (David) Atias of Milwaukee. Also loved by nephews, a niece, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Arthur was laid to rest at a graveside ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Racine Jewish Memorial Cemetery at which Rabbi Tzali Wilschanski officiated.

Marvin D. Pfeiffer

Surrounded by his loving family and friends, Marvin D. Pfeiffer, age 75, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan–All Saints Medical Center. Marvin was born in Racine, September 3, 1936, son of the late Henry and Marie (Nee: Beemster) Pfeiffer.

He was educated at St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1954.” Marvin joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning from service, he married the love of his life, Joanne Heck on November 24, 1959, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in November of 2011.

Marvin attended Milwaukee School of Engineering and became a licensed electrician upon completion of his apprenticeship. Marvin, an electrical contractor, partnered with Jim Thompson and co-owned and operated Electrical Systems and Services for twenty years. He enjoyed golf, golf, and more golf, vacationing, Menards, woodworking and the computer. More than anything, he cherished time with family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Lucille Goodwin

Mrs. Lucille Goodwin, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, March 7, 2012.

Lucille was born in Alvin, WI, to the late Sylvester and Ina (nee: Carter) Thrasher on June 12, 1925. She had lived in Racine for most of her life. In Racine, she was united in marriage to Harry E. Goodwin on March 25, 1944. After 64 years of marriage, Harry preceded her in death on January 21, 2009.

Lucille was an active member of First Church of God. There, she was also a member of the Christian Woman’s Connection. She was employed by Jack and Jill Day Care Center for many years starting as a cook. Then she became a teacher and finally served many years as the director, retiring in 1988. Lucille enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing. She was a collector of many things, especially angels and spoons. She also enjoyed playing dominos and working jigsaw puzzles. Lucille was an outgoing person and loved to be around people. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother loving the time she spent with them.

Lucille will be dearly missed by her children, Kathleen Goodwin, Richard (Connie) Goodwin and Eric (Karen) Goodwin; six grandchildren, David (Lindsey), Jennifer, Patrick (Rikki), Brian, Craig and Michael Goodwin; her great-grandson, Jackson Sparrow Goodwin; three step-grandchildren, Amber, Zach and Ben Jarosz; her sister, Christine Pandolphi; her brother, Ed Thrasher; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joan Goodwin; and one sister, Ruth Christensen.

Funeral services in celebration of Lucille will be held at First Church of God, 1650 Lathrop Ave., on Monday, March 12, 2012, at noon with Pastor Ryan Reed officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Rosemary (Krikorian) Gelenian

Rosemary Gelenian, age 81, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Rosemary was born in Chicago, IL, on April 13, 1930, daughter of the late Kaloust and Oske (Nee: Atanian) Krikorian.

Rosemary was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1948.” On November 7, 1953, at St. Hagop’s Armenian Church she was united in marriage to Augie Gelenian, who preceded her in death on February 4, 1983. Rosemary was employed at the Racine Public Library for ten years, and retired in 2003 from Jerstad-Agerholm Middle School after twenty-seven years of service. She was a member of St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church. A lover and patron she enjoyed her time as a member of the Racine Art Guild. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

LaVerne Lois Karner

Lakeland, FL – Mrs. LaVerne Lois Karner, 84, passed away in Lakeland, Florida, on Tuesday, March 6, 2012.

LaVerne was born in Racine to the late Earl and Frieda (nee: May Frieda Klingenmeyer) Larsen on July 15, 1927. She had lived in Racine for most of her life until the mid-1980s when she moved to Cape Coral, Florida. In Racine, LaVerne was united in marriage to Albert Netzell in September of 1952. He sadly preceded her in death on July 15, 1958. She then married Ernie Karner, who also preceded her in death.

LaVerne is survived by two children, Sally (John) Conklin and Tim (Colleen) Netzell; four grandchildren, Christopher and Greg Netzell, and Laura (Nathan) Thebarge and Kyle Conklin; two great-grandchildren, Miles Netzell and Sophia Thebarge; one great-grandson on the way; one brother, Earl (Ruth) Larsen; one sister, Margaret Jacobsen; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Larsen; other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Charles Larsen; and one brother-in-law, Art Jacobsen.

Margaret M. Nicotera, age 84, passed away Monday, March 5, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan–All Saints Medical Center. Margaret was born in Racine, September 7, 1927, daughter of the late Peter F. and Angeline (Nee: Mascari) Bonazza.

Margaret attended St. John Nepomuk Grade School, Washington Junior High School, and graduated from William Horlick High School “Class of 1946.” On July 16, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Ralph S. Nicotera Jr. Her pastimes included knitting and golfing. More than anything, she treasured time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Alma L. (Maurer) Anderson

Alma L. Anderson, age 91, passed away Monday, March 5, 2012, at Manor Care, Kenosha, WI. Alma was born in Racine, June 14, 1920, daughter of the late Albert and Bertha (Nee: Bakul) Maurer.

On May 6, 1950, she was united in marriage to Arnold C. Anderson, who preceded her in death on January 30, 1990. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Alma enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda S. Anderson, Ellen J. Ison; two grandchildren, Marsha (Tim) Winsall, Lisa Ison; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Ison, Braxton and Mason Murray; brother, Walter Maurer; other relatives and dear friends. John Nicholas 'Nick' Krahn

John Nicholas “Nick” Krahn passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Sunday, March 4, 2012, following a courageous battle against diabetes. He was born in Racine, December 25, 1940, son of the late John and June Krahn.

Nick was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1960.” On September 7, 1963, he was united in marriage to Kathleen M. Chiapete. Nick was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Racine Moose Lodge #437, and IBEW Local 430. He was employed by Abbott Laboratories until his retirement. Nick loved animals, the outdoors, fishing, hunting, drawing, painting and spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed for his strong will and sense of humor.

Nick was the beloved husband of Kathleen; loving father of Michele (Scott) Hoffman of Wauwatosa, John (Suellen) Krahn, Mike (Teresa) Krahn, all of Racine; devoted and proud grandfather “aka Bumpa” to Jennifer and Mackenzie Hoffman, Nicholas, Becca and Josh Krahn, and Eris Krahn; his caring siblings, Judy (Vic) Weinfurter of Kenosha, Linda (Larry) Kapellucsh of Racine, Larry (Linda) Krahn of Black River Falls; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William (Pat) Chiapete, Rick (Linda) Chiapete, Randy (Patty) Chiapete, Tom (Kris) Chiapete, Jonna Chiapete; nieces, nephews, many dear relatives and friends. William 'Bill' Garibay

William “Bill” Garibay, a great son, husband, uncle and brother-in-law, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, March 4, 2012. He loved unconditionally his foster kids, nieces and nephews. He worshiped the ground his mother walked on, and treated his wife, Barb Garibay, the same way.

Bill loved to cook and often dreamed of owning his own restaurant to share the amazing food his family enjoyed so much. Barb and Bill were members of First United Methodist Church and cherish the relationships they have built with their families through Christ. With kindness, generosity and love in his heart, he never had anything bad to say about anyone or anything.

A Horlick High alumnus and Cardiac Capers member, Bill Garibay will live on in many hearts of friends and family who have had the extreme pleasure of knowing him.

Survivors include his loving wife, Barb; his mother, Barbara (Albert) Garibay; brother, Jamie (Jenny) Garibay; mother-in-law, Florence Jordan; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy (Tim) Malcore, Wilma (Rob) Escamilla, Billee Platt; nieces and nephews, Ashly and Skyler Platt Jr., Katelyn and Joshua Malcore, Amanda and Kristin Garibay; other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, William Haggerty.

A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 745 Main St., on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 7 p.m., with Rev. Brad Van Fossen officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church Thursday from 6 p.m. until time of service.
