Rosemary (Krikorian) Gelenian

Rosemary Gelenian, age 81, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Rosemary was born in Chicago, IL, on April 13, 1930, daughter of the late Kaloust and Oske (Nee: Atanian) Krikorian.

Rosemary was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1948.” On November 7, 1953, at St. Hagop’s Armenian Church she was united in marriage to Augie Gelenian, who preceded her in death on February 4, 1983. Rosemary was employed at the Racine Public Library for ten years, and retired in 2003 from Jerstad-Agerholm Middle School after twenty-seven years of service. She was a member of St. Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church. A lover and patron she enjoyed her time as a member of the Racine Art Guild. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her daughters, Loretta (Gordon) Olson of Racine, Stephani (Brett) LaMantia of Rosemount, MN; her grandchildren, Gordon, Olivia and Audrey; sisters-in-law, Var Krikorian of Racine, Mary (Berj) Djibilian, Lucy Gelenian, Sonia (Sam) Buchaklian, all of Racine, Seda Gelenian of MD; son-in-law, Paul Wood; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; by her daughter, Terri Gelenian-Wood; her brothers, Thomas and Steve Krikorian; brothers-in-law, Milton and Harry Gelenian.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, March 12, 2012, at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Hrant Kavorkian officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until time of service. Private interment will be held. Memorials to the family to be used for her grandchildren’s education fund have been suggested.
