Loretta J. (LaSure) Galis

Loretta J. Galis, age 96, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. She was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, on January 28, 1916, daughter of the late Joseph LaSure and Loretta (nee: Hynes) LaSure Heindorff.

Loretta was schooled at St. Joseph’s Academy in Lindsey, Ontario, and moved to Racine in 1935. She was always proud of her Canadian Irish heritage. On July 30, 1941, she was united in marriage to Michael P. Galis, who preceded her in death on March 6, 1993. Loretta was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church. She enjoyed crafts, knitting, crocheting, gardening and aquasizing at the YWCA. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her, and they will take with them the patience, kindness, understanding and knowing that there is only CAN in this life, because there is no T in that word.

Loretta is survived by her three children, Paul (Lynne) Galis of Racine, Karen (Neil) Morgensen of Watertown, Lorie (Will) Wade of Galena, IL; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Galis Hansen, Annissa Morgensen (Richard Wayne) Lindsay, Aaron (Michelle) Galis, Christopher (Kris) Morgensen, Michael (Amanda) Morgensen, Loretta Haskell, Audrey Haskell; nine great-grandchildren, Ricky, Mitchell, Quin, Hannah, Haiden, Wyatt, Annelis, Brynn and Zachary; her companion shitzu, “Molly”; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Loretta was also preceded in death by her brother Leo “Bud” (Janice) La Sure.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 1903 Green St., on Monday August 6, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Don Zerkel officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. Memorials to St. Catherine’s High School or St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church have been suggested.

The family extends a special thank you to Loretta’s neighbor, Mary, for her years of companionship and caring, and to the nurses in the CVI unit, Carol, Kelsey, Ashley, Brittany and Deloris, and hospice nurses, Katie, Tanya, Dale, April and Chrissy for all of their loving and compassionate care.
