Thomas N. Maragos

Thomas N. Maragos, age 93, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center. Thomas was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 10, 1919, son of the late Nickolas P. and Marika (Nee: Caldramides) Maragos.

Thomas proudly served in the United States Army, 422 Night Fighter Squadron Tactical Air Support, in the Battle of the Bulge while stationed in the European Theatre.  On June 2, 1946, in Kenosha he was united in marriage to Sophie Loumas, who preceded him in death on November 12, 1999.

He was employed by American Motors Corporation for thirty years, retiring in 1977. Thomas was a dedicated and active member of the Kimissis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, where he served as President and on the church council for twenty-seven years. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his daughters, Marika M. Siavelis of Delray Beach, FL, Penny (Roger) Johnson of Racine; his grandchildren, Susan E. (Michael F. II) Sweeney of Savannah, GA, CaSandra A. (Bill) Azmann of Boyton Beach, FL, Natalie R. Johnson of Springfield, VA, Andrea N. (Michael) Zimdars of Kenosha; his great-grandchildren, Michael F. Sweeney III, Sophia L. Sweeney; brother, Mitchell (Betty) Maragos of Lakeland, FL; sisters-in-law, Mary Maragos, Bea Loumos, both of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, Ernie N. Maragos, Peter N. (Pauline) Maragos, and Joy (Ralph) Humrickhouse.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Kimissis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 1335 S. Green Bay Road, Hwy 31, with Rev. John Ketchum officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. (Trisagion Service at 7 p.m.) Memorials to the Kimissis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church have been suggested.
