Thomas J. Erickson Sr.

Thomas J. Erickson Sr., age 89, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in Union Grove.  Thomas was born in Chicago, IL, on September 24, 1924, son of the late Bert and Blanche (Nee:  Rostron) Erickson.

During World War II he proudly served in the United States Army in Europe with the 39th Signal Construction Battalion.  On May 13, 1950, at St. Joseph Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Gloria J. Foley, who preceded him in death on April 9, 2002.

Throughout his career he was employed by A & P Grocery, St. Joseph School and Nestle, and retired from Denver Lutheran High School in 1986.  He enjoyed crafts, creating beautiful stained glass, woodworking, stitching, painting, playing cards and traveling.  More than anything, he cherished time with his family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his six children, Kathleen (Robert) Wenzloff of West Allis, Thomas Erickson Jr. and Michael Erickson of Racine, David Erickson of Littleton, CO, Susanne (Gary) Friedrich of Mt. Pleasant, Donald Erickson of Lakewood, CO; his eleven grandchildren, Erica and Rebecca Wenzloff, James Erickson, Emily (Joseph) Paolone, Julia (Greg) Anders, Benjamin Friedrich, Kimberly Erickson-Beavis, Anthony, Mandie, Christopher and Matthew Erickson; his three great-grandchildren, Abrianna, Alexis and Autumn Erickson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerome  Foley, James  Foley, Clyde (Rosi) Foley; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel Erickson; his brother, Russell Erickson; and sister, Marion Kristiansen.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at 7 p.m. with Rev. Steve Varghese officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Tuesday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until time of services.  Interment with full military honors will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover.  Memorials to Fairchild Hall at the Veterans Home in Union Grove have been suggested.
