Margaret E. Balog, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the Becker-Shoop Center. Margaret was born in Racine on February 22, 1921, daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Nee: Chauby) Tajnai.
On September 27, 1941, at St. Lucy Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Steve J. Balog Jr., who preceded her in death on February 14, 1980. In her younger years she worked at Hamilton Beach and then Walker Manufacturing during World War II. Margaret moved on to the most important job of raising her daughter and caring for her family.
She was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church. She was an excellent cook who will be fondly remembered for her delicious Hungarian meals. Margaret enjoyed crosswords, and entered countless sweepstakes and jingle contests. Most of all, she cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, and took great joy treating them to meals at various restaurants. She will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Janis (Gary) Gayhart; three grandchildren, Leslie (Timothy) Thilleman, Layni Gayhart (Chris Grefe), Steve Gayhart; two great-grandchildren, Tim and Taryn Thilleman; great-granddaughter, Addison Thilleman; sister, Annie Putra; brother, Steve Tajnai; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three infant children; brother, Joe Tajnai; and sister, Julie Conway.
Private family services will be held with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.
A special thank you to the entire staff at the Becker-Shoop Center for their loving and compassionate care.
