Donald Charles Smith

Burlington –  Donald C. Smith passed away at the Aurora VNA Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa on April 22, 2012.

Donald was born in Fort Ord, CA, to Charles and Sharon (nee: Furman) Smith on March 19, 1960. Donald was born with a congenital kidney disorder that he fought valiantly all his life. He was raised in Franksville and on April 3, 1990, Donald received his first kidney transplant from his sister, Kimi. Donald was reborn to a new, healthy life that he never experienced before.

Donald met his future wife, Sandra L. Marks, on a coincidence as she was passing through Milwaukee and they found out they both had the same birth date. On April 9, 2001, they were united in marriage in Racine. Together they enjoyed motorcycling and boating. He also enjoyed fishing, even though he had no luck with it.

Don will be dearly missed by his wife, Sandra, and her children, Paul, Rhonda, Carl and Thad Babiarz; his father, Charles Smith; his brother, Terry Smith; two sisters, Larinda Mercier and Kimi (Mick) Conners; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Smith, on September 27, 1999.

Per Don’s wishes, he will be cremated and a memorial celebration will be held at Greg’s Catering & Don’s Market Inc., 3120 Roberts St., in Franksville on April 26, 2012, at 5:30 p.m. Private inurnment will be held at Caledonia Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin, 16655 W Bluemound Road, Ste. 240, Brookfield, WI 53005-5923.

“Don’s family would like to thank all at Froedert Hospital for all the time, care and compassion to him and his family during his life.”
