Omer Dean McKnight Jr.

Omer D. McKnight Jr., 69, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints on Tuesday, May 15, 2012.

Omer was born in Georgetown, Kentucky, to the late Omer D. Sr. and Geneva (nee: Faulconer) McKnight. In Conway, South Carolina, he was united in marriage to Delores Clarice Nelson on August 13, 1963, and had lived in Racine for most of his life.

Mr. McKnight was very proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps as an MP from 1960 until 1963. He was employed as security at the Nevada Power Company in Las Vegas for ten years, the Brownsville, Texas, Police Department for three years, Harris Metals in Racine and retired with both First Transit and Durham Bus Service.

Omer was a member of Atonement Lutheran Chruch. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and bowling. Omer was proud to be a sharpshooter and marksman for the USMC and the police force. He was an avid Brewer and Packer fan. But what was important to him and his family was that Omer was a very caring person who would help anybody in need. He had a special relationship with his great granddaughter, Makayla, who would call him “Pop Pop.”

Omer will be dearly missed by his wife, Delores; three children, Terry (Beth) McKnight, Sherry McKnight (boyfriend, Juan) and Barry McKnight; five grandchildren, Wendy (Isaac) Flores, Victoria McKnight, Georgia McKnight, Amy Temby and Matthew Temby (girlfriend, Carrie); also three other  great grandchildren, Isaac, Christian and Kathleen; sister, Patricia Maudlin (boyfriend, Cecil Arrington); nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A memorial ceremony will take place at Atonement Lutheran Church on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. with Dr. Warren Williams officiating. Inurnment will follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery with full military honors. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. service time. In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorials to the family.
