Edward P. Kappus

Edward P. Kappus, 85, passed away in Suttons Bay, Michigan, on Monday, June 30, 2008.

Ed was born in Kenosha on April 18, 1923, the son of Albert and Molly (Fay) Kappus. He went to St. James Grade School and graduated from Kenosha High School in 1941. By age fourteen he was working next to his father at Kappus Bakery in Kenosha. Three years were spent in the U.S. Army during WWII with service in Hawaii. On May 1, 1948, he was united in marriage to Florence Weiland at St. James Church in Kenosha. Ed and Florence were married for 52 years and had four daughters. He has said, "My entire life has been surrounded by females, even the pets in the household." For twenty-five years Ed was the President of Kappus Bakery, Inc. His daughters were raised on white bread! Edward was a long-standing member of St. Edward's Catholic Church and the Kiwanis Club. He will be remembered for his love of Jeopardy! and crossword puzzles, and his wonderful wit and sense of humor.

Survivors include his four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy Knox of Fort Collins, CO, Patti (Mark) Carlson of Suttons Bay, MI, Vicki (Chris) Griese of Stillwater, MN, and Kelly (Rick) Walberg of Fort Collins, CO; five grandchildren, Lana (JR) Clegg, Jarin Rossiter, Annie Carlson, Stuart and Sydney Griese; three great grandchildren; his wonderful sister, Ann O'Day of Kenosha; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, and his sister, Faye Eisenhauer.

Scott L. Parr

Scott L. Parr, 44, passed away at his residence on Sunday, June 29, 2008.

Scott was born in Racine on November 21, 1963, to Eugene and Marilyn (nee: Wetzel) Parr. He liked to spend his free time working on cars. Scott especially enjoyed building demo derby cars. Scott was a giving man who was always willing to lend a hand. Above all, Scott was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by wife Cheryl Parr; children, Shannon (Richie) Owensby, Kari Hill, Nick, and Alicia Parr; grandchildren, Savannah, Colten, Sariah, and Jade Wetzel; special nephew and niece, Michael and Kathy Kirkpatrick; special great niece, Lexi Kirkpatrick; and brothers, Kevin, Jay and Timmie. Scott is also survived by other siblings, relatives, and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Candy, and brother, Terry.

Eva Helen Petkunas

Mrs. Eva H. Petkunas (nee: Malczinski), 88, passed away at her home on Saturday, June 28, 2008.

Eva was born in Racine to the late John and Martha (nee: Podziulis) Malczinski on June 25, 1920. She had lived in Racine her whole life. In Racine, she was united in marriage to Joseph Petkunas on August 19, 1955.

Mrs. Petkunas was a member of St. Richard’s of Chichester Catholic Church. She served in the United States Army in the Woman’s Army Corps. (WAC). Mrs. Petkunas was employed by the City of Racine as a Crossing Guard. She was also a member of the Lithuanian Woman’s Club. She enjoyed gardening, eating out and the company of her friends. Most importantly she loved being with her children, grandchildren, and her extended family from Chicago, having recently met a new great-great grandson, Doc Vasquez.

Eva is survived by her two daughters, Maria (Tony) Kivenas and Jean Petkunas; three grandchildren, Nicholas (Sarika) Kivenas, Andrea Kivenas, and Joseph Petkunas; one great grandson, Darian Kivenas; and also is expecting a second great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, on September 21, 2005.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Richard’s of Chichester Catholic Church on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church from 12 noon until the time of Mass. Memorials for Masses or to Alzheimer’s Research have been suggested.

JoAnn C. Engholt

JoAnn C. Engholt, 78, passed away unexpectedly at WFH-All Saints Medical Center on Saturday, June 28, 2008.

A lifetime resident, JoAnn was born in Racine on May 19, 1930, to the late Arthur and Eva (nee: Johnson) Jorgenson. She graduated from Washington Park High School in 1948 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

On September 3, 1949, in Holy Communion Lutheran Church, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, James Engholt. They have been members of Evangelical United Methodist Church since 1951, where JoAnn was proudly active with the Crossbearer Sunday School program.

JoAnn was employed as an accomplished cook for Racine Unified School District until leaving to help establish and operate their family business – Custom Parts Inc. An avid reader, JoAnn was also a fantastic cook who thoroughly enjoyed entertaining. Above all, her family meant everything in the world to her and she always placed them as top priority in her life. She loved and treasured being in their surroundings.

Surviving are her loving husband of over 58 years, James of Racine; their children, Kirk (Lynn) Engholt of Plymouth, Scott Engholt, Debi (Bob) Hutton and Jodi (Scott) Steltenpohl, all of Racine; grandchildren, Brad, Ryan, Russell, Alaina, Chris and Amy; great-granddaughter, Hannah Grace; brother, Arthur (Jeanette) Jorgenson; many special nieces, nephews, relatives in Denmark and friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Jens and Anna Engholt.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at 11:00 am in Evangelical United Methodist Church, 212 Eleventh Street, with Rev. Dr. Creighton Kaye officiating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 pm and in the church on Thursday from 10-11 am. Marian Jeanette Perugini

Marian Jeanette Perugini, 84, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare/All Saints on Friday morning, June 27, 2008. She was born in Racine on Nov. 18, 1923, to the late John and Mamie (nee: Christianson) Seater. She lived all of her life in Racine. She was united in marriage to John W. Perugini in Racine on April 3, 1946.

Marian worked at S.C. Johnson as a secretary for about 17 years retiring in 1985 and she was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She especially loved being with her family most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marian is survived by a son, John (Joan) Perugini; three grandchildren, Jessica (Kevin) Maes, John (Allison) Perugini, Anthony Lipor; two great-grandchildren, Henry Maes, John Perugini; other relatives and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Perugini on Feb. 11, 1995, two daughters, Susan and Marian, and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church 716 College Ave on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dee Talley officiating. Marion E. Esser

Marion E. Esser (nee: Patrick), 83, passed away at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center on Friday, June 27, 2007, with her family at her side.

Marion was born in Racine on May 31, 1925, to Walter and Marie (nee: Flynn) Patrick. She attended Mitchell School and Park High School. Marion was proud to be selected as the first female cheerleader at Mitchell and one of the first female cheerleaders at Park during the early 1940s. Marion married John R. Esser in Racine on July 27, 1946. They enjoyed over 60 years of marriage together.

Marion is survived by her loving husband, John Esser; son, Brian J. Esser and daughter in law, Lori A. Esser; two granddaughters, Brianna (Christopher) Chaffee and Katrina Esser, all of Racine. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. Marion was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Laverne Sabatino; a brother, Raymond Patrick; a son, Richard Esser; and grandson, Bradley Esser.

Private family services for Marion will be held. Interment will take place in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Donald Felix Pichelman

Donald Felix Pichelman, 69, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare/All Saints on Thursday, June 26, 2008. He was born in Stockton, WI on July 9, 1938 to the late William and Sofie (nee: Bednarczyk) Pichelman. He lived most of his life in Racine. He was united in marriage to the former Judith Ann Larsen in Plover, WI, on Nov. 16, 1956.

He was a self-employed mechanic for many years. His automotive interests took Don to automotive restoration of classic cars, hot rods, pedal cars and tractors. His most recent accomplishment was the building of his 1932 Ford Roadster. Those who knew Don well, will always remember that he had a heart of gold and would go out of his way to help whenever he could. The side of Don people might not have known was his love for his family, in particular all of his grandchildren. Some of the most special memories were made at the “motorcycle farm” with his family in Wilson, WI.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Pichelman; children, Diane Napierkowski, Matt (Jennifer) Pichelman; daughter-in-law, Alisa Pichelman; grandchildren; Bruce N. Napierkowski, Heidi (Marshall) Millsaps, Madelaine Pichelman, Louisa Pichelman; one great-granddaughter, Genevieve Millsaps; two brothers, Walter (Loretta) Pichelman, Edward Pichelman; one sister, Maryanne Milanowski; son-in-law, Bruce B. Napierkowski; one brother-in-law, Gary (Carol) Larsen; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, countless friends, neighbors, and business associates also survive. Doris L. Anderson

Doris L. Anderson, 73, went to be with her Lord, surrounded by her family on Wednesday morning, June 25, 2008. She was born in Chicago on Aug. 6, 1934, to the late Sven and Elin (nee: Ahlman) Johanson. She lived most of her life in Racine County. She was united in marriage to Richard E. Anderson in Racine on May 4, 1979.

She was employed at Southern Wisconsin Center as an Aid and House Parent, retiring in 1997. She was an active member of Racine Bible Church, played the piano for the Salvation Army with the Visitation Choir and worked with the Meals on Wheels program.

She is survived by her husband, Richard E. Anderson; children, Mark (Sandy) Timmons, Lisa Engelhard; three grandchildren, Jason, Amy, Daniel; great-granddaughter, Alexis; four step-children, Cindy (Dale) Hegedorn, Gary Anderson, Cheryl (Gary) Kohl, Carol (Terry) Williams; and numerous other relatives also survive. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

Funeral services will be held at Racine Bible Church 12505 Spring St., on Monday, June 30, 2008, at 12 Noon with Rev. John Miesel officiating. Helen M. (McWhorter) Bostick

Helen M. (McWhorter) Bostick, age 70, of Racine, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. Born on September 4, 1937, in New Albany, MS, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Luella (Banks) McWhorter.

Helen received her formal education in New Albany, MS. She moved to Racine in 1955 and later married Donald Bostick in May 1957. To this union was born five children, Monica, Dana, Dale, Dean, and Malitha. In addition, Helen was blessed with thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

While on her journey of life, Helen was employed at St. Luke’s Hospital and Jacobson MGG. She also volunteered her time as a senior citizen aide and with other community groups. A member of Shiloh Cathedral Church, Helen served as a faithful usher, Sunday school teacher and choir member, before health problems decreased her activities.

Helen leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Donald; two daughters, Monica and Malitha of Racine; one son, Dale of Atlanta, GA; one stepson, Derrick of Racine; and one Godson, Phillip Anderson of Seattle, WA; five brothers; W.C. (Dorothy) McWhorter of Racine; Jimmy (Corrine) McWhorter of Racine; Jeff (Treda) McWhorter of Racine; William McWhorter of Racine; and Webster McWhorter of Blue Springs, MS; sisters, Greenella Lewis of Racine; Maryon (Lawerence) Mack; Jennie Johnson of Racine; Geraldine (Charles) Hattix of Blue Springs, MS; and Tamara McWhorter of Racine; best friends, Ruth Felt and Lorene Willis; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Ezra R. Reed

Ezra R. Reed, 74, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, with his family by his side.

He was born on July 26, 1933, in Racine, to Halsey J. and Elta (nee: Meverden) Reed.

Ezra is a graduate of Park High School.

He was united in marriage to Margaret Daceno on May 5, 1953, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church rectory.

Ezra served as an Airman 3rd Class in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 30, 1959.

Ezra was a lithographer at Mueller Color Plate in Milwaukee, retiring on June 30, 1993. He was an honorary life member of the Graphic Communications International Union.

Ezra loved being with his family first and foremost. He enjoyed life by spending time in Las Vegas with his wife and family. Ezra loved motorcycles, horseshoes, playing pool and watching the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed his friends at Dynasty Restaurant and time with his special friend, Valo Martin. Ezra was a member of the National Rifle Association and was honored for his charitable contributions.

Ezra will be forever missed by his children, Daniel (Christine) Reed of Kopake, N.Y.; David Reed of Racine; and Susan (Douglas) Cameron of Evans, Ga. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sara (Joseph Harmon) Reed, Carrie (Buster Braun) Reed, Kelly Reed, Ezra Reed, Amanda Gano, Megan Reed, Frank Unger, Zachary Unger and Taylor Cameron; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Justin, Jordan, Raquel, Jerome, Jackson, Olivia, Nina and Donovan; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Ezra was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret, who died on May 20, 1996, and other family members that he cherished the memory of for many years.

Ezra’s life will be celebrated during a Memorial Service on Monday, June 30, 2008, at 7 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 1212 Lathrop Ave. Friends and relatives may meet with the family on Monday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Highway 32, on Tuesday, July 1, at 10 a.m.

Mary L. Nelson

Sturtevant – Mary L. Nelson, 67, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, June 24, 2008. Mary was born in Menominee, Michigan, on January 23, 1941, and has been a Racine area resident for most of her life.

Mary will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and as a woman with a deep and committed relationship with her Lord. She was proud to be a stay-at-home mom, enjoyed playing the piano, needlecrafts, and was a talented artist. She loved flowers, being near the water and lakefront, writing letters to all of her family and friends. Mary was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church for many years.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband, James A. Nelson, Sr.; her dear children, James A. Nelson, Jr. of Racine, Lindalou Evans of Burlington, Richard (Theresa) Nelson of Racine, Dianne (Steve) Strand of Iron Mountain, Michigan, and Ken Nelson of Sturtevant; her dearest grandchildren, Jennette, Matthew, Ashley, Rachel, Samuel, Joshua, Jessica, Jericka, Jacob, Angelina, Zachary, Alexandra, William, Sophia, Elisa and Stephanie. She is further survived by her mother, Carol (nee: Gullick) Chevalier of Black Earth, Wisconsin; her brothers, Mick (Andersina) Chevalier of Killeen, Texas, and Jim (Lynne) Chevalier of Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania; brothers-in-law, William Nelson of Lockport, Illinois, and Thomas (Rose) Nelson of Menominee, Michigan; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Bernard Chevalier; her sons, Robert and Patrick; and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Nelson Burie.

Anthony 'Tony' L. Casciaro

Anthony "Tony" L. Casciaro, age 93, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2008, at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee. Tony was born in Racine, May 1, 1915, son of the late Samuel and Camillia (Nee: Ruffolo) Casciaro.

On May 2, 1955 in Racine he was united in marriage to Angeline Fiore who preceded him in death, April 7, 2004. Tony was a graduate chemical engineer from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1940. After graduating with highest honors he was immediately hired by Rainfair Inc. as their Chief Chemist and Chemical Engineer. He worked for over sixty years with Rainfair until their closing in Racine. Upon retirement he continued to do consulting work with companies in China, Canada and Colombia. He was recognized as one of the Midwest’s leading chemists in the rubber industry. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Above all he devoted his life to his family and will be deeply missed.

Nicholas P. Maheras

Nicholas P. Maheras, age 59, passed away Monday, June 23, 2008, at Kindred Hospital, Milwaukee, WI. Nicholas was born in Racine on October 29, 1948, son of the late Paul J. and Lydia M. (Nee: Mauter) Maheras.

Nicholas was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1967” and attended the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. On November 7, 1987, he was united in marriage to Mary Jo Christopherson. He was employed by Camera World as a photographer for fifteen years. Nicholas was an active member at the Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church and served on the Parish Council for two terms. He was actively involved in all areas as a volunteer for forty years at the Racine Theatre Guild. He enjoyed his time spent with his sons in Boy Scouts where he served as a Merit Badge Counselor and Camp Cook. His many hobbies include making wine and jewelry. Above all he cherished time spent with his family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo; his sons, Demetrios and Thomas, all of Racine; brother, Anton (Eunice) Maheras of CA; mother-in-law, Helen Christopherson of Racine; sister-in-law, Xanthi Maheras of Racine; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William Christopherson, Ruth (Richard) Staples, Judith Christopherson, all of Racine; beloved uncle and aunt, James and Georgia Maheras of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother and sister, John and Joanne.

Joseph F. Gedemer III

Joseph F. Gedemer III, spent his last days at the Hospice Alliance Hospice House. He passed away peacefully on Monday June 23, 2008, at the age of 85. He was born in Racine on August 3, 1922, the son of the late Joseph F. and Josephine (nee: Scheible) Gedemer Jr.

Joe joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and went on to serve his country with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Shortly after returning he met Annella “Nell” Horton and they were united in marriage on June 14, 1947, in St. Mary Catholic Church.

Joe had been employed by Walker Mfg. for over 40 years until his retirement. He and his wife Nell spent many years designing, creating, and selling floral picture frames and center pieces under their business name of Woodland Wilds by JoNel.

Joe was a longtime member of St. Lucy Catholic Church, the American Legion, and V.F.W. Post 1391. He enjoyed many activities in life. Joe and Nell were avid square dancers when first married. They loved to dance. He also enjoyed the outdoors, golfing and biking, and playing cribbage; but his greatest love was the time spent with his family and friends.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 61 years, Nell; their 3 daughters, Lynn Ann (Eugene) Williams of Waukesha, Carol Jean (Perry) Nordness of Minocqua, and Jacqueline (Tom) Tessmer of Racine; 6 grandchildren, Lauren Tessmer, Sara Tessmer, Jason (Betsy) Williams, Christopher (Katrina) Williams, Bradley (Mandy) Williams, and Ryan Williams; 2 great grandchildren, Abigail and Alexander Williams; 2 sisters, Marion Gedemer of Rowland Heights, CA, and LaVerne Horton of Racine; sister-in-law Betty Gedemer of Racine. His nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends further survive him. In addition to his parents Joe was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Norbert, Richard, Eugene, Marvin, Jerome Gedemer, Catherine Pekar, Evelyn Hettig, Virginia Gedemer and Ottillia Ruelle.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 30, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and in the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass. Entombment, with full military honors, will be in Calvary Cemetery Garden Crypts. The family has suggested memorials to the Oncology Alliance Philanthropic Foundation.

Julio Jaramillo

Julio Jaramillo, 31, passed away at his home on Sunday morning, June 22, 2008.

Julio Jaramillo was born in Racine to Juan and Juanita (nee: Martinez) Jaramillo on March 22, 1977, and had lived in Racine all his life. In Racine, he was united in marriage to Julissa Gutierrez on January 27, 1996.

Mr. Jaramillo was a member of Cristo Rey Catholic Church. He was employed by Grove Gear for the past 5 years.

Julio was a very happy and enjoyable person. He always was a jokester. He was the baby of five siblings and he was always the favorite uncle because he was still young at heart. Julio was very loyal to his family and friends. He was a very responsible and dedicated father, a perfect dad. His children meant the world to him. He loved his children and cared much for his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially during family gatherings and family sporting events.

Julio is survived by his wife Julissa; his five children, Taliah, Maya, Jaydon, Nallely and Elianna; his parents, Juan and Juanita Jaramillo; his mother-in-law, Socorro (Rafael) Santillan; his father-in-law, Silverio Gutierrez Sr.; three sisters, Virginia (Steve) Krueger, Yecenia (Javier) Ortega, and Letisia (Jesse) Morones; one brother, Juan J. Jaramillo “J.J.”; six sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law, Erika Gutierrez, Vanessa Gutierrez, Silverio Gutierrez Jr., Javier (Lourdes) Gutierrez, Norma Gutierrez, Sendi (Jose) Contreras, and Maria (John) Escobar; 14 nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his cousin, Jose Ricardo Rico.

Travis A. Bestwick

Kenosha - Travis Austin Bestwick, 25, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008, at 8:08 a.m. in Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident that occurred early Sunday morning in Kenosha.

Travis was born on May 29, 1983, in Baraboo, WI, to Rick Bestwick and Nanci Hulchiy. He lived most of his life in Lake County, Illinois, until moving to Kenosha 5 years ago. Travis was employed as an extremely knowledgeable customer service specialist for Argus Wireless in Zion, IL.

Travis definitely lived life to the fullest. He was a fanatic about riding motorcycles, four-wheelers and snowmobiles - though his deepest passion was for racing his “Green Machine” car. Above all, Travis was happiest when in the surroundings of his family and friends. He loved to spend time with his “Princess” Arianna and his “little buddy” Jordynn.

Surviving are his parents, Rick and Nanci Bestwick of Kenosha; sister, Shawna Bestwick; niece, Arianna; nephew, Jordynn; aunts, Judy (Michael) Guzoldo, Diane (Robert) Motyka, Marybeth (Michael) Madry, Kileen (Louie) Koutromanos and Peggy (Scott) Smith; uncles, Stewart (Marjorie) Bestwick, Jack (Verna) Bestwick, David (Lyla) Orrico; Michael, William and John Hulchiy; and the love of his life, Dana Neises. Travis is further survived by many other aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends too numerous to mention by name.

Travis was preceded in death by his grandparents, Michael Hulchiy, Dorothy Hulchiy, Lester Bestwick, Charles Orrico, Lorraine Orrico-Pattee and Bill Pattee; uncle, Robert Hulchiy; and very dear cousin, Michael Madry.

Joseph 'Joe' L. Jager

Joseph L. Jager, age 77, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Ridgewood Care Center. Joseph was born in Racine, June 26, 1930, son of the late Matt and Milka (Nee: Crnkovic) Jager and was a lifelong resident of Racine.

Joe was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1948.” On May 10, 1952, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, he married Jacqueline Violet Price, who preceded him in death January 25, 1998. Joe was an active member of the Racine County Democratic Party. He was elected and served as County Supervisor for three terms. He was employed with the JI Case Company where he served as a committee man and union steward. He was a member of their 20-Year Club and the Local 180 Retirees Club. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Holy Name Society, serving as their treasurer for over thirty years. Joe was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree serving as Faithful Navigator for two terms, member of the Optimist Club, Loyal Order of the Moose, and the Croatian Fraternal Union. He was a lifelong devoted Cubs fan and Bears fan. Joe was an avid bowler and was proud to have scored a perfect 300 game. One could regularly find Joe at Totero’s Restaurant where he became a fixture. Above all, he dedicated his life to his family and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his daughters, JoAnn Stasiewicz of Milwaukee, Jeanne (Michael) Simmons of Racine; his grandchildren, Jason Stasiewicz, Ryan Stasiewicz, Jessica (John) Knue, Matthew Simmons; his great-grandchildren, Allison Knue, Gregory Knue, Izabelle Stasiewicz; sister, Janice Rose Cekan of Racine; sister-in-law, Carol Waters of Rockford, IL; cousins, Luke (Sandy) Kozich of Racine, Drago (Sandy) Andricevic of Racine; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Betty H. (Becker) Berggren

Betty H. Berggren departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at the age of 83.

She was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Natalie (Nee: Montag) Becker. Betty was born in Racine on January 30, 1925, and was a lifelong resident of Racine.

Betty graduated from Park High School in 1943 and Dominican College in 1958. She earned Master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin and Cardinal Stritch. In 1985 Betty was named Special Services Teacher of the Year. She retired from Racine Unified School District in 1987 after thirty years of service.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Jayme Berggren of New Berlin, WI; her grandchildren, Kyle and Joy; other loving relatives and cherished friends. She will be greatly missed.

Ella E. Lettsome

Mrs. Ella E. Lettsome, 104, passed away at Washington Manor on Saturday, June 21, 2008. She was born in Kenosha on December 1, 1903, to the late Samuel and Julia (nee: Lehman) Raiman. On November 25, 1925 she married William Lettsome and moved to Racine. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1991.

Mrs. Lettsome worked at Eagle Luggage for many years where she made instrument cases. She was a longtime member of Atonement Lutheran Church where she also belonged to Senior Citizens at Atonement. Mrs. Lettsome enjoyed her time doing arts and crafts. However, she was happiest when she was in the surroundings of her family.

Her survivors include her daughters, Bonne (Gerhardt) Knop of Racine, Barbara (James) Healy of Green Bay; her grandchildren, Theresa (James) Halkowitz, Todd (Sybil) Knop both of Racine, Erin (Mark) Riley of Kenosha, Laura (David) Dudley of Mooresville, NC, Colleen (Steven) Ruff of Scottsdale AZ; her great grandchildren, Matthew Halkowitz, Abby Knop, Anna Knop, Sean Riley, Shannon Riley, Patrick Riley, Casey Dudley, Mac Dudley, Alison Ruff, Lauren Ruff; her great-great granddaughter, Maliah Halkowitz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Donald R. Dobrowski

Donald R. Dobrowski, age 69, passed away peacefully Friday, June 20, 2008, at his residence surrounded by the love of his family.

Donald was born in Racine, November 1, 1938, the son of Walter and Martha Alice (Nee: Mayland) Dobrowski. On June 11, 1960, at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Gloria A. Desens.

Donald was employed by the City of Racine for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Local 67 and the City of Racine Twenty Year Club. Prior to working for the city, he worked at Pugh Marina for 15 years, refinishing boats. He was a lifetime member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church where he loved taking pictures. Donald enjoyed swimming at the DeKoven Center with the Aquasize Class. He always looked forward to going to McDonald’s to have coffee with his buddies. His hobbies included restoring antique cars, collecting old pictures, A & W memorabilia, baseball caps and old coins. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family at his cottage up north in Coloma and going to the casino. Donald was strong and determined with a positive attitude and had a great sense of humor until the end. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Gloria; 3 children, Ronald (Shelli) Dobrowski and grandchildren, Brittany, Brandon, and Brett; Sharon (Jim) Ayotte; David (Patty) Dobrowski and grandchildren Autumn and Erena; his brother, Walter Dobrowski of Ft. Lloyd E. Wolfe, Jr.

Lloyd E. Wolfe, Jr., 80, passed away unexpectedly at WFH-All Saints Medical Center on Thursday, June 19, 2008.

A lifetime resident, Lloyd was born in Racine on July 1, 1927, to the late Lloyd E. and Elsie L. (nee: Kreuger) Wolfe, Sr. He graduated from Washington Park High School in 1945. Lloyd bravely served our country with the United States Navy in WWII. Years later, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

On November 11, 1950, in Atonement Lutheran Church, he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Dona J. Scurlock. His heart was broken when she passed away on September 16, 2005.

Lloyd was employed as a foreman with Motor Specialty, retiring after more than 20 years of service. He was a faithful member of Atonement Lutheran Church for nearly 60 years. Without a doubt, Lloyd’s top priority in life was his family. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. Lloyd cherished the summer family trips to St. Germain, an annual tradition that everyone looked forward to for the past 40 years. He was an accomplished musician and a phenomenal accordion player. For many years, his band “Lloyd Wolfe Quartet & Trio,” played in various communities throughout Wisconsin and Illinois. Passionate about his music, Lloyd co-owned and operated “Wolfe & Steuer Accordion House” where he taught private lessons. Lloyd was a devoted member of the Racine Musicians Union. An avid sports fan, Lloyd liked to bowl and play softball. He was also a diehard Packers and Cubs fan. Above all, Lloyd loved and treasured being in the surroundings of his entire family.

Surviving are his children, Debra (Al) Braun of Palm Harbor, FL; William (Bridgette) Wolfe of Racine; Pamela (Gary) Peterson of Muskego and Thomas (fiancée, Janice Lojeski) Wolfe of Racine; grandchildren, Jacob, Zach and Hannah Braun; Danielle and Mitchell Wolfe; Samantha and Spencer Peterson; Joshua and Jordan Wolfe; sister-in-law, Sharon (Robert) Burns; special nieces, Dixie Burns and Wendy (Rich) Doerr; cousin, Richard Teskowski; and by other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

Earrie L. Easton, age 86, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Aurora Medical Center. Earrie was born August 25, 1921, in Brandenburg County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Dave and Lula (Nee: Went) Snyder. She was united in marriage to Robert T. Easton who preceded her in death in 1984. Earrie devoted her life to her family and will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Vannio R. Salerno

Vannio R. Salerno, age 79, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at his residence. Vannio was born in Racine, September 1, 1928, son of the late Emil H. and Eleanora (Nee: Vitelli) Salerno.

On August 2, 2002, in Waukegan, IL, he was united in marriage to Joyce M. Skrzypchak. Vannio was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Vannio owned and operated Shorecrest Liquors for thirty-one years. He was a member of Roma Lodge and proud of his Italian Heritage. He enjoyed time spent with his breakfast buddies at George Webb. He will be missed by his cats, Simeon and Sweetie Boy. Above all Vannio was a great family man who will be fondly remembered for his generosity and huge heart. He will be deeply missed.

Bruce G. Goetzinger

Bruce G. Goetzinger, age 52, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Bruce was born in Racine, July 1, 1955, son of Gerald L. and Annamae M. (Nee: Hattery) Goetzinger.

Bruce was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1973” and attended Gateway Technical College. Bruce was employed by Western Publishing for twenty-nine years. He was baptized at Emmanuel Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. He was currently a member of the Salvation Army and a member of the Worship Team. Bruce enjoyed reading, singing, and was an avid Ham Radio operator “Silent Key KB9QZR.” Above all he treasured time spent will his family and will be dearly missed.

Jean C. Twombly, age 90, passed away Monday, June 16, 2008, at her residence. Jean was born in Racine, daughter of the late Henry and Frances (Nee: Gilday) Danhauser.

Jean was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1936.” On October 21, 1944, at St. Joseph Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Willard H. Twombly who preceded her in death, December 27,1994. Jean was a longtime active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and belonged to the Christian Mothers Mission Circle. She dedicated her life to her family and will be deeply missed.

Carol Joan (Ernst) Collins

Carol Joan Collins (nee: Ernst), age 79, left this earth Sunday, June 15, 2008, to go to heaven and join her husband John, who passed away one week earlier. Carol was born in Racine on May 30, 1929, daughter of the late Hugo and Mabel (nee: Nearing) Ernst and had been a lifelong resident.

On July 20, 1957, she was united in marriage to John E. Collins and together shared fifty one beautiful years. In her earlier years Carol was employed with Osters Mfg. and last worked with Jacobsen Textron until her retirement in 1985. She was an avid fan of football and baseball and enjoyed testing lady luck with dog racing, horse racing and the lottery. Carol will be best remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.

Survivors include her sons, Michael (Judy) Obuchowski, David (Kathie) Obuchowski; grandchildren, Renee (Arlie) Heider, Norma (Tim) Toutant, Richard (MaryBeth) Obuchowski, Michael Obuchowski, Nicole Obuchowski; great-grandchildren, Anthony (Lisa) Heider, Danny Obuchowski, Richard Obuchowski, Kaitlyn Obuchowski, Tiffany Obuchowski; step great grandchildren, Nicholas Toutant, Dustin Toutant; great-great grandchildren, Angelis Heider, Kimberlynn Heider; sister, Sharon Aukland; sister-in-law, Jane Weise; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her husband and her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her great granddaughter, Tia Heider, great grandson, Travis Toutant; brother, Glenn Ernst; sister, Lois Reading; sisters-in-law, Mary Collins, Geraldine Zuehlke, Bertie Collins; brothers-in-law, Orville Aukland, Herman Reading, Robert Weise, Alexander Zuehlke, Dr. Charles Collins.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. until time of service.

Lucille O. Lofty

Lucille Olga Lofty, 93, passed away at the Becker-Shoop Center on Saturday, June 14, 2008.

Lucille was born in Chicago, IL on February 15, 1915, to the late Hjalmar and Olga (nee: Gustafson) Lange. On August 28, 1943, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Alex (“Al”) Lofty, who preceded her in death on January 26, 1975.

Lucille lived most of her life in the Chicago area until retiring to Brooksville, Florida in August 1981. She came to Racine in 2003 to be near her family. She had been employed by Allstate Insurance as an office administrator for over 25 years.

While in Florida, Lucille was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Brooksville. When she moved to Racine, she joined Grace Lutheran Church. During her lifetime, she was a tireless volunteer at the Brooksville Regional Hospital, from which she received her 20-Year pin. She remained active well into her 80’s, regularly participating in line dancing classes and the Sons of Norway bowling league.

But the surprise to all who knew her in Illinois was that Lucille Lofty carried a hidden passion for travel. Until 1976, she had never been outside the continental United States. That year, she signed up for a group trip to Hawaii. That was the beginning of 19 trips to six continents, including Egypt, where she sat on a camel in front of the Great Pyramids. One of her favorite trips was a photo-safari to Kenya, where she took a very close-up picture of a lion! In October, 1998, at the age of 83, she walked the Great Wall of China and saw the Three Rivers Gorge the year before it was flooded by a dam.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Mary Lofty of Racine; grandchildren, Karen (Joseph) Lofty Eaton of Merrimack, NH; and Alex Lofty of Knoxville, TN; great-grandson, Thomas James Eaton; special nephew, Dion (Lottie) Luper; and other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lucille was preceded in death in 1976 by her sister, Ethel (Frank) Luper.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 19, 2008, at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Randal A. Poppe officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Private interment will take place at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Chicago on Friday. In memory of Lucille, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association have been suggested.

A special note of thanks to the entire staff at Harmony Assisted Living Center for the work they did to make Lucille feel comfortable in her new home in Wisconsin and to the staff of Becker-Shoop for the compassionate care they gave during her last few months.

Terry M. 'Mike' Schenkenberg

Terry “Mike” Schenkenberg, 54, passed away at his residence on Saturday, June 14, 2008.

A lifelong resident of Racine, he was born on March 8, 1954, to the late Gerald and Barbara (nee: Mertens) Schenkenberg. He graduated from Horlick High School and attended M.A.T.C. On December 27, 1993, he married the former Elaine H. Bouwma.
Mike enjoyed his life fishing, playing cards, watching the Packers and spending time with his family.

In addition to his loving wife, Elaine, his survivors include his daughter, Katylyn Schenkenberg of Racine; step-children, William “Billy” Holub of Racine, Staci Holub of Milwaukee, Steven Holub of Janesville; brother and sisters, John (Debra) Schenkenberg, Susan (Augie) Cervantes of Saukville, WI, Teresa (Bob) Haas of Mauston; aunt, Karen Burmeister; as well as brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Family and friends are invited to meet at Emmanuel Lutheran Church (725 High St.) on Thursday, June 19, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. for the celebration of his life and funeral service with Rev. James F. Peters officiating. His burial will follow at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery. There will be a visitation in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and in the church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for an education fund to be set up for his daughter, Katylyn.

Mary Jane (Bieneman) Anderson

Mary Jane Anderson passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints. Mary Jane was born in Racine, daughter of the late Lawrence and Sarah (Nee: Wagner) Bieneman.

On September 5, 1947, Mary Jane was united in marriage to Ralph N. Anderson at St. Edward Catholic Church. Mary Jane and Ralph shared a life that took them many places including New York where they resided for twenty years and New Mexico where they owned and operated a cattle ranch. They returned home to Racine in 1993 where Mary Jane continued her life devoted to family and friends. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph; her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert N. (Lauren) Anderson of Cornwall on Hudson, NY, Ronald N. (Rebecca) Anderson of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Susan Anderson of Prairie du Sac, WI; her grandson, Colin Anderson; sister-in-law, Jeanette Bieneman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Richard Norman Anderson and brother, Kenneth Bieneman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 3100 95th Street, Sturtevant, WI, 53177 Tuesday, June 17, 2008, 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Paul Raczynski officiating. Nancy R. (Myers) Olley

Nancy R. Olley, age 76, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008, at the Golden Living Center, Kenosha, WI. Nancy was born in Washington D.C., August 4, 1931, daughter of the late Alfred V. and Grace (Nee: Jarvis) Myers.

On December 27, 1956, in Washington, D.C., she was united in marriage to Raymond “Ray” L. Olley. Nancy was employed by Racine Unified School District for many years where she spent the majority of her career teaching 3rd grade at North Park Elementary School. She retired in 1983. Nancy was also a volunteer art teacher at St. Rita’s, St. Patrick’s, Sacred Heart Catholic Schools and Wustum Museum. She enjoyed reading books and gardening. Above all Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her husband, Ray; her children, Gregory K. Olley, Shawn R. Olley, both of Franksville, Christopher P. (Jane) Olley of Racine; her four grandchildren, Allison, Luke, Jackson, and Katherine; sister, Dee (Ben) Sisemore of Stafford, VA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Elaine Myers of Arlington, VA; Francis “Doc” Olley of Franksville, David (Gail) Olley of Kenosha, Sr. Michelle Olley, Sr. Betty Olley, of Racine, Gladys Olley of Caledonia; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Harold E. Richow

Harold E. Richow, 79, of Sun City, CA, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Inland Valley Medical Center in Windomar, CA. He was born in Racine, January 21, 1929, son of the late Harold and Marie (Nee: Bellaire) Richow.

Harold joined the U.S. Army towards the end of WWII and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Upon his discharge from the service, he had various careers throughout his lifetime.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma; his former wife and mother of his children, Rosemary Richow of Oceanside ,CA; children, JoAnne Tierney of Belle Plane, MN, Debbie Richow of Racine, Cindy Anderson of Buena Park, CA, Marianne (Paul) Douglas of Racine. Harold “Rick” (Charlette) Richow of Phoenix, AZ, Mike (Ann) Richow of Racine, Richard (Christine) Richow of Westchester, OH; stepchildren, Deana (Tom) Pentzer of Chino, CA, Debbie (Robert) Miller of Diamondbar, CA, Glenda (Ken) Kransfeldt of Yorba Linda, CA, Greg (Darlene) Brobston of Altra Loma, CA; 25 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn.

Sandra Kay (Treffert) Niesen

Sandy passed away at the age of 63, on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

For those who knew her, they will never forget her. For those who loved her, the void will never fully be replaced. Her presence brought a smile and laughter to our lives that few can compare to, her passing brings sorrow and tears to all. The impression she left on friends and family will be with us forever.

She was a caring and devoted wife to her husband Gary Niesen, a loving and nurturing mother to her children and step-children Tammie (Rick) Herman, Sheryl (Jim) Meyer, Alan (Vennesa) Foldy, Gary (Kathy) Niesen, Chris Niesen (deceased) and Kevin Niesen.

The family would like to extend a special "thank you!" to our dad for his compassion and commitment in caring for our mother this past year. A heartfelt thank you is also given for all of the brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, other family, relatives and the countless friends who showed their love and devotion during our mother’s battle with cancer.

A celebration of Sandy’s life will take place on Monday, June 16th at 4:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Cary at the First Reformed Church, 7110 Old Spring Street. A private entombment will take place at a later date.

Nadia B. Brinkmann

Nadia B. Brinkmann, 78, of Racine passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, June 9, 2008.

Nadia was born in Miami, Arizona, on March 29, 1930, to the late Theodore and Alma (nee: Nelson) Peterson. A graduate of William Horlick High School Class of 1948, she went on to earn her nursing degree from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in 1956.

On February 25, 1956, Nadia was united in marriage with the love of her life, Ronald D. Brinkmann. She faithfully served our community as a Registered Nurse. Nadia was employed by St. Luke’s Hospital, Woodstock Care Center and Oak Ridge Care Center, retiring in 1991.

She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed her positions as financial secretary and Sunday school teacher. Nadia had also been a 4-H Club Leader. Among her interests, she liked to sew, knit, crochet and was an avid reader. Nadia was a proud member of the Sewing Club for over 60 years and the First Baptist “Knit-Wits” knitting club. Above all, she was happiest when in the surroundings of her entire family.

Surviving are her loving husband, Ronald Brinkmann; their children, Kathy L. Andersen of Racine; Susan (Patrick) Dolan of The Colony, TX; Dawn (James) Herbst of Racine; David R. Brinkmann (Nancy Juern) of Racine and Joan (Major Thomas, Ret.) Stafslien of San Diego, CA; son-in-law, Lawrence Andersen III of Racine; grandchildren, Lawrence (Jamie) Andersen IV, Jason (Nissi) Dolan, Ronald (Frances) Andersen, Melissa Dolan, Emily (Michael) Rodriguez, Justin (Michelle) Brinkmann, Joshua Herbst; Jesse, Timothy, Rebekah and Aaron Dolan; Benjamin and Jonathan Stafslien; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Janyce (Carl) Granetzke; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Peterson, Charlene Passmore, Shirley (Gene) Rottmann, Pat (Joe) Rinehardt, and Leslie (Jim) Schwandt; brother-in-law, Phillip (Lou) Funk; many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to her parents, Nadia was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Brady Andersen; brother, Norman Peterson; and brother-in-law, Al Passmore.

Funeral services will be held in First Baptist Church, 3117 Lathrop Avenue, on Friday, June 13, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Holly Anderle officiating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Frances L. (Riley) Hempel

Frances L. Hempel, age 89, passed away Monday, June 9, 2008, at Becker-Shoop Center. She was born in Racine, February 5, 1919, daughter of the late Melvin and Mary (Nee: Chartraw) Riley and had been a lifelong Racine resident.

On April 10, 1937, she was united in marriage to George J. Hempel who passed away June 29, 1991. Frances was employed by Racine County Courts as a deputy clerk for 18 ½ years and was a member of the Racine County Retiree Assn. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. Above all she was devoted to her family and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her children, Georgina (James) Stasiak of Knob Noster, MO, William (Nancy) Hempel Sr. of Racine, James (Marlene) Hempel of Zapata, TX, Richard (Alberta) Hempel of Racine, Thomas (Linda) Hempel of Spokane, WA; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, John “Jack”, James “Bud”, Thomas Riley, and two infant sons.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 16, 2008, 11 A.M. at Faith United Methodist Church 1013 Harmony Dr. with Reverend Lois Grebe officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Visitation will be held Monday at the church, 10 A.M. until time of service.
