Edward P. Kappus, 85, passed away in Suttons Bay, Michigan, on Monday, June 30, 2008.
Ed was born in Kenosha on April 18, 1923, the son of Albert and Molly (Fay) Kappus. He went to St. James Grade School and graduated from Kenosha High School in 1941. By age fourteen he was working next to his father at Kappus Bakery in Kenosha. Three years were spent in the U.S. Army during WWII with service in Hawaii. On May 1, 1948, he was united in marriage to Florence Weiland at St. James Church in Kenosha. Ed and Florence were married for 52 years and had four daughters. He has said, "My entire life has been surrounded by females, even the pets in the household." For twenty-five years Ed was the President of Kappus Bakery, Inc. His daughters were raised on white bread! Edward was a long-standing member of St. Edward's Catholic Church and the Kiwanis Club. He will be remembered for his love of Jeopardy! and crossword puzzles, and his wonderful wit and sense of humor.
Survivors include his four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy Knox of Fort Collins, CO, Patti (Mark) Carlson of Suttons Bay, MI, Vicki (Chris) Griese of Stillwater, MN, and Kelly (Rick) Walberg of Fort Collins, CO; five grandchildren, Lana (JR) Clegg, Jarin Rossiter, Annie Carlson, Stuart and Sydney Griese; three great grandchildren; his wonderful sister, Ann O'Day of Kenosha; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, and his sister, Faye Eisenhauer.
Please share your memories with family members at the funeral home on Saturday, July 26, 2008, 1 p.m.. with a Memorial Service to follow at 1:30 p.m. Private interment at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. Donations suggested to your favorite Racine or Kenosha charity.
