Llewellyn 'Lew' Gene Norman

Llewellyn G. Norman, 84, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 29, 2010. He was born in Fulton, IL, to the late Peter H. and Winnie (nee: Kramer) Norman on September 11, 1925. He grew up in Fulton and moved to Wisconsin in 1962. He has been a resident of Racine since 1964. He was united in marriage to Maxine S. Anderson on Sept. 26, 1947 in Clinton, Iowa.

Mr. Norman served in the United States Army during World War II, seeing major fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, where he earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was employed for 14 years at Fairbanks Morse Company prior to working at J.I. Case Company for 24 years, retiring in February of 1988. He was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Case 20-Year Club and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Lew enjoyed his classic cars, especially his 1953 Chevy. But most importantly, he was a family man and enjoyed fishing, especially with his grandchildren.

Lew will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Maxine Norman of Racine; one son, Mark (Linda) Norman of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Mark II (Tabitha) Norman of Rock Hill, SC and Krystle (Ryan) Van Abel of Charlotte, NC; two great-grandchildren, Tylen Van Abel and Jacob Peter Norman; sister-n-law, Edna Michaelsen of Savanna, IL; and nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church on Saturday morning, July 3, 2010, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Mark McDonough officiating. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may meet with the family at the Wilson Funeral Home on Friday evening, July 2, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. Memorials in memory of Lew may be directed to Covenant Presbyterian Church - Llewellyn Norman.

Mary G. (Hegeman) Sands

Surrounded by her loving family, Mary G. (Nee: Hegeman) Sands, 88, passed away Monday, June 28, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. She was born in Burlington, WI, on July 4, 1921, daughter of the late Theodore and Mary (Nee: Harter) Hegeman. On July 8, 1943, Mary was united in marriage to Allen L. Sands, who preceded her in death on July 7, 1995.

Mary graduated from Union Grove Teacher’s College in 1941 and came to Racine to teach at the old Lamberton grade school. After marriage she continued teaching until her children were born, during which time she helped operate the family farm. She returned to teaching and continued her education, graduating from UW-Whitewater in 1971. After 23 years, she retired in 1984 from the Racine Unified School District as a Reading Specialist at Dr. Jones School.

Mary was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Third Order of St. Augustine, Christian Mothers, St. Jude Circle, Wisconsin Retired Teachers Assn., Racine Retired Teachers Assn. and neighborhood card clubs. She was very active with the Lamberton 4-H Club, serving as General Leader for many years. Following retirement Mary enjoyed traveling with her husband, relatives and friends. She also delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered at Ridgewood Care Center through RSVP, The Alpha Center, Community Meals and the CARES Program. She continued to share her passion for reading by volunteering with the Literacy Council. She will be dearly missed.

Mary is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda (Charles) Lechner of Racine, Elaine (Al) Fisa of Wisconsin Rapids, Claudia (Jim) Mielke of Beaver Dam; three sons and daughters-in-law, David (Nancy) Sands of Union Grove, Marvin (Deborah) Sands of TX, and Kenneth (Cheryl) Sands of Racine; eight grandchildren, Chip (Margaret) Lechner, Lori (Keith) Lanzendorf, Pamela (Matt) Mordja, Angela (Todd) Prange, Kristy (Jed) Hunter, Tricia, Mitch and Ben Sands; seven great-grandchildren, Jaedan and Coley Prange, Brooke and Chase Lechner, Trent and Nathan Mordja, Veronica Hunter; sister, Marge Abendroth; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dora, Sr. Mary Theodore OSF, Matilda, Genevieve, Lucille, Elizabeth, Jeanne; brothers, Joseph, Arthur, Edward, Robert and Roman; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., Friday, July 2, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Joseph G. Stobba OSA officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. Memorials to St. Rita’s Catholic Church or Wheaton Franciscan Hospice have been suggested.

Barbara J. (Braun) Olson

Surrounded by her loving family, Barbara J. Olson, age 63, passed away Monday, June 28, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center. Barbara was born in Racine, WI, on May 3, 1947, daughter of Martin G. and Lucille J. (Nee: Klinkhammer) Braun.

Barbara was employed as a dispatcher by Payne and Dolan for many years. She was a movie buff who also enjoyed fishing and playing cards. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her loving mother, Lucille J. Braun; her brother, Joseph (Peggy) Braun of Holcomb, WI; sister, Patricia Gray of Chippewa Falls, WI; special uncle, Ed Klinkhammer; uncle, Louis Klinkhammer; good friends, Larry (Myra) Olson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Martin G. Braun.

Graveside services will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, 9000 Washington Ave., Friday, July 2, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John D. Aiello officiating.

Betty Ann 'Onnie' Lannoye

Betty Ann Lannoye, “Onnie," age 77, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan –All Saints Medical Center. Betty was born in Racine, February 3, 1933, daughter of the late Frank P. and Alice V. (Nee: Donovan) Lannoye.

Betty was a graduate of St. Edward’s Grade School and St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1951.” She was last working at Surgitek and was previously employed at Webster Electric. Betty was an active, lifelong member of St. Edward Catholic Church, where she was a Greeter, and a member of the choir, Parish Council, Stewardship Committee and the Women of St. Edward’s. She was also involved with the R.E.S.T. Program, the St. Rose Meal Program and enjoyed baking cookies for the Christmas Fair. A lover of the arts she was a supporter of the Racine Art Museum and Wustum Museum. A talented artist herself, Onnie had a great flair for photography and ceramics. Above all she was a loving sister, aunt, dear friend and neighbor who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her sisters, Phyllis (Norman) Miller, Beverly J. (Peter) Mandli, all of Racine; her brother, Richard C. Lannoye of Racine; sisters-in-law, Joan Lannoye of Kenosha, Juanita Lannoye of North Carolina; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her Infant sister, Marion Alice; sisters, Vivian R. Sanders, Marjorie Lannoye; brothers, Vernon K. Lannoye, Edmund D. Lannoye, and sister-in-law, Patricia Lannoye.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Avenue, Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Allen Bratkowski and Rev. Richard J. Molter concelebrating. Katherine Kay (Christoplis) Gorsky

Katherine Kay Gorsky, age 62, was taken from us tragically on Sunday, June 27, 2010. She was born on September 20, 1947 in Sheboygan, WI, the daughter of John and Ann (Wolff) Christoplis.

Katherine was a proud graduate of Park High School. Katherine was employed with various hair salons in the Racine area before opening her own salon “The Mane Place” on Spring Street.

On September 9, 1984, Katherine was united in marriage to the love of her life, Guy Gorsky in Racine. They moved to Austin, Texas, where she pursued her career as a hair stylist until the late 1990s when they moved to the Green Lake area so she could take care of her ailing mother.

For many years Katherine was a hair stylist for Tangles Hair Salon and Spa in Middleton. Katherine loved archery, racket ball, photography and motorcycling. She also loved tending to her gardens and having fresh flowers in the house. Most of all, Katherine cherished her time spent with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Guy Gorsky of Madison; her father, Johnny Christoplis; a sister, Shirley (David) Feehrer; and two brothers, Nick (Sue) Christoplis and Jim (Lynn) Christoplis all of Racine; nieces, nephews, Todd, Nicole, Keith, Tara, Cassandra, and Peter; great-nieces, Jessica, Melissa, Sydney, Mercedez, Norah and Avangelina; other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother Ann, and her niece Kristina.

A memorial gathering will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, on Saturday, July 10, 2010, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. A memorial service and gathering will be held at a later date at Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home in Racine, WI. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for individuals who have catastrophic diseases or for accident victims.

Guy would like to extend a special thank you to the first responders to the accident scene and to the staff at University Hospital for all care and compassion given during such a difficult time.

Kathleen T. (Granger) DeBonis

Kathleen T. DeBonis, age 83, passed away early Saturday morning, June 26, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital. Kathleen was born in Racine February 19, 1927, daughter of the late Frank and Marion (nee: Thompson) Granger.

On August 27, 1949, she was united in marriage to Hugo J. DeBonis; they lived happily together for nearly 58 years until he preceded her in death on February 22, 2007. Kathleen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed her travels and was an avid bowler who loved time spent bowling with her friends for the past forty years. Kathleen was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her three sons, John (Sandy) DeBonis, Robert (MaryBeth) DeBonis, Michael (Sandy) DeBonis, all of Racine; grandchildren, Nicholas, Anthony, Gina, Matthew and Timothy; brother, Frank (Jean) Granger of Waukesha; brothers-in-law, Arnold DeBonis of Racine; Edward Kaisler of MN; her beloved pet and companion, Jet; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents, and husband Hugo, Kathleen was also preceded in death by four sisters, Lucille Spranger, Doris Kaisler, Betty Ade and Claire Harris.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave., on Tuesday June 29, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Ronald O. Crewe officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Emil F. Kaplan

Emil F. Kaplan, age 97, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center. Emil was a lifelong resident of Racine County born October 2, 1912, the son of Frank and Albi (Nee: Just) Kaplan.

On May 15, 1937, Emil was united in marriage to Bernadine E. Sievers. Emil retired from Racine Die Castings, Sturtevant, in 1977. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and an active member of St. Paul’s Neighborhood Center. Emil enjoyed gardening and working in the earth.

Surviving are his two sons, Ronald (Judith) Kaplan of Franksville and Bernard Kaplan of Racine; three granddaughters, Kim (David) Gabrhel, Sherri (Scott) Anderson, Debra (Joe) Aponte; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Elsie Despins; many friends and neighbors. Emil was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 68 years on February 10, 2005; by a daughter-in-law, Patricia Kaplan; two sisters, Lydia Osadsky and Mildred LaMartina; and three brothers, Louis, Jerome and Richard.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 28, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 3011 Erie St., with Reverend Diane Tetrault officiating. Interment will follow at Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday at the funeral home from 3-5 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church have been suggested.

Elizabeth Jane 'Betty' (Biller) Murphy

Surrounded by her loving family, Elizabeth J. Murphy, age 89, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the Elizabeth Residence in Caledonia. Betty was born in Park Falls, WI, August 25, 1920, daughter of the late Jonas and Ethel (Nee: Jensen) Biller.

On December 2, 1954, she was united in marriage to Raymond L. Murphy, who preceded her in death, May 11, 1987. Betty was employed by Gateway Technical College for twenty-two years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. Richard Catholic Church. Betty will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her stepchildren and spouses, Josephine H. (C. John) Mata of Racine, Paula J. Haag of Kansasville, Cecelia M. Jacoby of Racine, Karon Murphy of Sturtevant, Michael (Kathy) Murphy of Racine;11 step-grandchildren, many step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, Raymond, Betty was also preceded in death by her stepson, George, and her step-granddaughter, Kimberly Murphy.

Lorraine Ann (Zalinski) Stram

Mrs. Lorraine Stram, 81, passed away in Oshkosh on Tuesday evening, June 22, 2010. She was born in Racine on June 27, 1928, to the late Trifon and Albina (nee: Drozd) Zalepa. She lived most of her life in Racine and moved to Oshkosh in 2000. She was united in marriage to Robert Stram on June 23, 1951.

She graduated from Washington Park High School in 1946. She was a lifetime member of St. Richards and was an avid bell collector.

She is survived by her son, James Stram, daughter-in-law Carlene Stram, both of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Dana Dunk, Jeff and Amanda Firebaugh; sisters, Rose (Norbert) Willger, Arlene Monson; godchild, Jeanine (Terry) Weygant; nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1973; and by two sons, Robert and Darrell Stram.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home, on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 11 a.m.. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Alice J. (Jarstad) Kummer

Alice J. Kummer, age 62, passed away Monday, June 21, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Alice was born in Racine, March 13, 1948, daughter of the late Marvin and Anna (Nee: Mayer) Jarstad.

Alice enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino. More than anything she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her five children, Mark Jarstad, Lori (William) Wenberg, Addie A. Simon, April A. (Kris) O’Brien, Michelle M. Simon; her six grandchildren, Jaleesa and Dylan Berry, Jackson and Kaitlyn Wenberg, Khristian and Ava O’Brien; brothers and sisters, Bobby (Barbara) Jarstad, Randy (Diane) Jarstad, Seno Jarstad, Tommy (Fran) Jarstad, Richard Jarstad, Julie Viertel, and Rosemary (John) Meyer; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son Timothy Anderson and by her daughter Alison Lee Simon.

William Orr Nahikian

William Orr Nahikian, age 65, passed away Friday, June 18, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Bill was born in Allegan, MI, June 25, 1944, son of the late Dikran and Elizabeth (Nee: Renny) Nahikian. He was a graduate of Albion College and received his master's from Western Michigan University.

On July 12, 1969, in Hastings, MI, he was united in marriage to Mary Frances Laberteaux. Bill served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Vietnam. He was CEO of DuraColor Inc and was previously CEO of Western Publishing. He served on the boards of RAMAC, United Way, Prairie School, St. Mary’s Medical Center, and was a philanthropist for many civic organizations. He was also a member of the Somerset Club and the Racine Country Club where he was an avid golfer. Above all he was a devoted husband and father who cherished the time he spent with his family.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Mary; his daughters, Susan and Sarah; brothers, Howard (Janet) Nahikian, Dickran (Jean) Nahikian, James (Dee) Nahikian; sister-in-law Rita (Jerome) Conrad; brother-in-law, Thomas (Rita) Laberteaux; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

WIND LAKE -- Surrounded by her loving family, “Kiki” Kaleigh Kristine Sawasky, age 10, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010, at her home. Kiki was born in Racine, Wisconsin on, November 2, 1999, daughter of Richard T. and Elfrieda C. “Fritzie” (Nee: Dallmann) Sawasky.

Kiki is survived by her loving and devoted parents, Dick and Fritzie; her sisters Jenny Sawasky (Tim Bell) and Ruth Hahn; her brother Peter Sawasky; numerous foster siblings; niece, Caitlyn Bell; grandparents, Don and Elaine Longmore; aunts, uncles, other relatives and many dear friends.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Jamie; sister, Katie; grandparents, Shirlie Longmore, Earl Dallmann, Gordon VanRemmen, Dan Sawasky; Aunts, Sherl Theres, Roberta “Bobbi” Strait; Uncles, Earl “Bud” Dallmann and Eric “Rick” Dallmann.

Mary A. Chaniga

Mary A. Chaniga, age 86, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010. due to a car accident. Mary was born in Racine, March 28, 1924, daughter of the late Victor and Josephine (Nee: Yankech) Chaniga and was a lifelong Racine resident.

She graduated from Washington Park High School, “Class of 1941,” attended St. Albertus College and Dominican College. She was a Certified Professional Secretary and spent her entire career as an executive secretary. She was employed for many years by the Dumore Company in sales and export, and retired from Young Radiator Company after 50 years in the business world. Mary was very devoted to her Catholic faith and tried to practice love and charity and lend a helping hand whenever possible. Her family was very important to her. She made a home for her parents and nursed her dear brother Joseph during his terminal illness. She watched her nieces and nephews grow up and loved them and their children as her own.

Her interests were in all forms of art, stitchery and nature, which she considered God’s greatest gift to be treasured and protected. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, as well as abroad, including the Holy Land, Rome and Greece, as well as the land of her heritage, Czechoslovakia, and was well versed in the Slovak language. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church from early childhood until it closed in 1998, and then joined St. Paul the Apostle Church.

She was a member of Daughters of Isabella, having served as Secretary and Vice Regent. Also a member of the Catholic Woman’s Club serving on the Board for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brothers. John and Frank; and her brother, Joseph. She is survived by nieces and nephews and their children: Elizabeth (Dr. Greg) Okoniewski and Megan; Catherine (Rick) Ripma and Robert, Eric and Daniel; Thomas Chaniga; John (Theresa) Chaniga and Emily and Erin; Ann (Matt) Rotelli and Joseph Thomas; Mary (Arif) Fareed and Alia and Noah. William W. Sanders

Surrounded by his loving family, William W. Sanders, age 89, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at his residence. William was born in Racine, March 22, 1921, son of the late Edward and Verna (Nee: Frechette) Sanders.

During World War II William proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel.  After active duty he served in the Air Force Reserves for twenty years.  In March 1947 he was united in marriage to Violet Miller at St. Rita Catholic Church where he had been a lifelong member.    He owned and operated Sanders Paint and Wallpaper Company with his family.  Above all William devoted his life to his family, doted on his grandchildren, and had a great love for his pets.  He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Violet “The Old Sea Hag;” his children, Bernie Sanders, Bobbie Wahlen, Barry (Nancy) Sanders, Buddy (Kim) Sanders, Brett Sanders;  8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat (John) Mueller, Shirley Miller; brother-in-law, Robert (Joan) Miller; sister-in-law, Mavis Sanders; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Billy; and brothers, Eddie and Jack Sanders.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sunday, June 20, 2010, at 3 p.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., with Rev. Joseph G. Milton Joseph Robotka, Jr

Milton Joseph Robotka, Jr, 82, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. He was born on Jan. 5, 1928, in Racine to Milton and Libby (Svatos) Robotka.

Milt graduated from Horlick High School, Class of 1946, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1951 with a BS in economics. After graduation from high school, he joined the Army Air Corps and served his country faithfully. On Aug. 30, 1952, at the Grange Avenue Methodist Church he was united in marriage to the former Nancy Nelson.

He was employed by Massey Ferguson for 39 years and belonged to their 20-year club. During his career at Massey, he was transferred throughout the Midwest, living in Springfield, IL, Kirkwood, MO, Mt Prospect, IL, Lansing, MI, DesMoines, IA, and then to Racine where he retired. He accepted each transfer into the new communities with enthusiasm and enjoyed the challenge of each new job. Since retirement he and his wife found great pleasure in “cruising.” Exploring Hawaii, Alaska, the Panama Canal, and all ports in the Caribbean. He also looked forward to his week at beautiful Hazelhurst with his family. At home, his roses were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy; son, Robert (Tammy) of Eagan, MN; son-in-law, Kent (Brenda) of Oskaloosa, IA; grandchildren, Shannon (Nathan) Johnson of Oskaloosa, Kelsie and Kyle Robotka of Eagan, MN; great-grandchildren, Caden and Colin Johnson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Frankenfeld; parents, Milton and Libby (Svatos) Robotka; mother and father-in-law, George and Lucia Nelson; brother, Robert Robotka; other relatives and friends.

In keeping with Milton’s wishes, a private funeral service was held on Friday, June 18, 2010.

Judith Ann (Sheets) Wilkens

Judith Ann Wilkens passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at the age of 64 after a four-year courageous battle with cancer. Judy was born in Milwaukee on January 27, 1946, daughter of the late Harold and Virginia (nee: Hartel) Sheets.

She was married for 38 years to her beloved husband, Henry John. She was the proud and loving mother of two children, Jeffrey (Colleen) Wilkens of Wauwatosa and Elizabeth Wilkens of Gurnee, IL. She had three precious grandchildren who were lights in her life: Sydney, Wesley and Delaney Wilkens of Wauwatosa. Judy is also survived by her dear sisters, Sally (Dave) Delp of Racine and Kathy (Michael) Maloney of Neptune Beach, FL; as well as nieces and nephews, Bill Delp of Milwaukee and Peter, Meghan, Allison and Lauren Maloney of Neptune Beach, FL. In her lifetime Judy had many wonderful friends, especially Debbie, Jeannette, Mary Jo, Sharron and Jean.

Judy was employed by Johnson Bank for over twenty years, retiring in 2006. She made many dear friends throughout her time with the bank and cherished each and every one of them. Her biggest love and joy was golfing. She was an active member of the Johnson Park Women’s Golf League…you always knew where to find Judy. She attended St. John Nepomuk Grade School, St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1964,” and graduated from St. Norbert College in 1968 with a degree in Sociology. She was an active member at St. John Nepomuk Church for many years and served on the Parish Council, Finance Committee, as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. In the more recent years she had become a member at St. Rita Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., with Rev. Joseph G. Stobba OSA officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m.  Memorials to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice Alliance have been suggested.

The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Mullane and the staff at Oncology Alliance as well as the physicians and staff at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin for their world-class care over the years. They truly helped Judy to have more quality time with her family. We would like to offer special thanks to staff of Hospice Alliance in the recent weeks, most notably Leti, Jackie, Terry and Karla. They all were of particular comfort to Judy and her family through her arduous journey.

Eleanor Christina (Hansen) Nielsen

Mrs. Eleanor Christina Nielsen, 96, passed away at Becker Shoop Center on June 14, 2010. She was born in Waukegan, IL, on May 24, 1914, to the late Martin and Margaret (nee: Petersen) Hansen.

She grew up in the Ives Grove area, where her parents owned a grocery store named Hansen’s General Store. It is there that she met the love of her life, Frankie. She was united in marriage to Frank A. Nielsen in Racine on July 14, 1934; they were married for 70 years, until his death on Feb. 24, 2005.

Eleanor graduated from Union Grove High School. She was a faithful lifelong member of Atonement Lutheran Church. She belonged to a sewing club with a group of close friends that did needle work together. She was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and her cat. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She will be dearly missed by her two children, Arlene (David) LaMack and Dr. Kenneth R. (Rose) Nielsen; three grandchildren, Karen (David) Peterson, Elizabeth Nielsen, Mary (Kurt) Swanson; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Peterson, Sarah Peterson, Tyler Peterson and Luke Swanson; and one brother, Robert (Elizabeth) Hansen. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janet Rae; one grandson, Michael LaMack; one sister, Lillian (Tony) Margis; one childhood sister, Sigrid Hansen.

Funeral services will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Ave., on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Denise Mbise officiating. Interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park, following  a funeral lunch. Friends may meet with the family at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Virginia F. (O'Neil) Fahrenbach

Virginia F. Fahrenbach, age 95, passed away Monday, June 14, 2010. at her residence. Virginia was born in Racine, October 19, 1914, daughter of the late Harold and Florence (Nee: Bullette) Fahrenbach.

On July 26, 1932, in Crown Point, IN, she was united in marriage to Warren E. Fahrenbach who preceded her in death, April 22, 2003.  Virginia was an active member of the YWCA, YMCA, and the Racine Athletic Club.  She devoted her life to her family and will be dearly missed. 

Survivors include her daughter, Kay (Donald) Beadles; her son-in-law, Ron Thompson; her five grandchildren, Brett (Janet) Thompson, Shea (Wendy) Thompson, Patrick (Andrea) Beadles, Colleen (Greg) Larson, Michael (Roselinda) Beadles; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Loretta O’Neil, Alyce O’Neil; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Thompson; sister, Patricia Peuschold; and three brothers, Harold, Kenneth and Lyle O’Neil.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 40 Ohio St., with Rev. Victoria Millar and Rev. Viola L. (Hammond) Streuli

Viola L. Streuli, age 91, passed away Sunday morning, June 13, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center. Viola was born in Volin, South Dakota, March 13, 1919, daughter of the late John and Jennie (Nee: Steigler) Hammond and had been a resident of Racine since she was 17.

On February 14, 1942, at the Church of the Atonement in Racine she was united in marriage to her Valentine, William J. Streuli, who preceded her in death, January 9, 1974. Viola was a charter member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church since 1947. Her many talents included flower gardening and baking, especially Christmas cookies. Vi had a flair for design with accessories from her shoes to purses, clothes and home décor. She lived to dance and danced to live. Vi will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Geraldine Streuli; her grandchildren, Todd (Lynn) Streuli of West Bend, Jennifer Ross, Chad Schuman, both of Racine; her great-grandchildren, Ryan Streuli, Scott and Rebecca Ross; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Streuli; and her loving sister and caregiver, Ethel Malvasio of Racine; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by her son, Robert W. Streuli, on September 7, 1990; and her sister, Eleanor Hanson Bertelle, on October 27, 2009.

Richard D. Smith

Richard D. Smith, age 75, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010, at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI.  Richard was born in Detroit, MI, February 28, 1935, son of the late Thomas L. and Dorothy A. (Nee:  LeRoux) Smith and had been a resident of Racine since 1964. 

He proudly served with the United States Marine Corps.  While in the service at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA, he was united in marriage to Evelyn M. Hagle on February 1, 1955.  Richard was employed in sales for many years, last working at Nelson Electric.  He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church.  Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, and time spent with his friends at the VFW  Above all he treasured his family.  He will be deeply missed.

Pamela Sue Johnston

Pamela Sue Johnston (nee: Reese) battled heart disease for many years. It claimed her precious life and passed her into to God’s arms on June 11, 2010, at the age of 62. She was born in St. Louis, MO, on December 19, 1947.

Over the years Pam was extremely active in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives and reveled in all they did. In the past, she was active in PTA, Horlick Music Parents Association, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, her Church, Church Choir, as well as many other community based organizations.

Survivors include her husband, Jeff; son, Taggart Lane and his wife Emmy; two grandchildren, Liam Gary and Lucia May of Lombard IL; son Toby Lynn and his wife Kris; two grandchildren Ethan Jeffory and Reese Amber of Sturtevant WI; her mother, Mary Ann Reese of Wichita, KS; sister, Kathy Schauf and her husband Ron of Dallas, TX; brother, Richard Reese and his wife LaDeane of Hoxie, KS; sister, Debbe Demieville and her husband Clifford of Wichita, KS; brother, Ed Reese of Wichita, KS; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and will miss her. Pam was preceded in death by her father, James Reese; and mother-in-law, Elma McDonald.

Pam’s passing leaves a hole in the hearts of friends and loved ones who will remember her forever as Wife, Mother, Grandma, Sister, Aunt and Friend who always shared her gentle smile and warm heart and always had open arms to hug the ones she loved so dearly.

Edwin O. Parkinson III

Edwin O. Parkinson III, age 66, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Aurora Medical Center, Kenosha, WI. Ed was born in Greenville, North Carolina, January 21, 1944, son of the late Edwin O. and Helen L. (Nee: Sawyer) Parkinson Jr.

Ed served in the United States Air Force for twenty-two years, retiring in 1986 as Master Sergeant. Following retirement he moved to Racine and has been an active member of the First United Methodist Church and choir. On May 10, 2009, on Mother’s Day he was united in marriage to Linda Shea Witonski. A political activist, Ed was a staunch supporter of the Republican Party. He enjoyed Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and a good debate. His family, church, and country were near and dear to him. Ed will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; his children, Lou Parkinson of Alexandria, VA, Edwin O. Robert L. Hart

With his family by his side, Robert L. Hart, age 77, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010, at his residence. Robert was born in Racine, July 12, 1932, son of the late Fred and Ida (Nee: Miljourn) Hart.

Robert proudly served in the United States Army. On August 18, 1956, at St. Patrick Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Helen Ammentorp. Robert was employed as a carpenter for forty-two years with various construction companies in the Racine area, mainly with Fergus Construction. He was a member of Local Union #161 for over fifty years. In his younger years he was a member of the Racine County Conservation League.

Upon retirement in 1993 he and his wife relocated to Arkansas where he loved spending his time fishing, observing wildlife and watching NASCAR. Above all he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Helen; his children, Paula (Denny) Albright of Racine, Kathleen (George) Casaine of Boynton Beach, FL, Steven (Pamela) Hart of Racine, Wendy (Tony) Bohringer of Westfield, WI, Michael (Diane) Hart of Oak Creek, WI; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Donna) Hart of Racine; sister, Cheryl (James) Fries of Pine River, WI; sister-in-law, Inez Hart of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Pearl M. (Kime) Gross

Pearl M. Gross, age 95, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center. Pearl was born in North Cape, October 7, 1914, daughter of the late John and Iva (Nee: Waldron) Kime and was a lifelong resident of Racine.

Pearl was married to Norbert Gross on August 31, 1935, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church by Norbert’s Uncle, Father Sipple. Norbert preceded her in death on August 1, 1997.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated, Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Monica’s Senior Citizen Home Chapel, 3920 North Green Bay Road. Entombment followed at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Attending the service were Pearl’s friends and family of St. Monica’s; her niece and nephew, Joanne and Tom Wall; great niece, Jolene Young; great nephew, Kurt Kinard; who have been caring for Pearl. Other survivors include her estranged son, Kenneth (Pamela) Gross; four grandchildren, Tricia (Toby) Ohandley, Michelle (Robert) Dresen, Ann Marie (George) Gabher, and Michael Gross; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Timothy C. Eickner

Timothy C. Eickner, age 66, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Wheaton-Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Tim was born in Racine, February 17, 1944, son of Theodore and Marion (Nee: Williams) Eickner.

He was a graduate of Park High School “Class of 1962.” During the Vietnam War Tim proudly served in the United States Navy. On April 1, 1967, he was united in marriage to Jane C. Schilke. Tim was last employed at Grove Gear, and worked part-time at Ludwig Manufacturing. He enjoyed biking but more than anything he treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of forty-three years, Jane; his children, Tom (Anne) Eickner, Mark (Jaime) Eickner; his five grandchildren, Caillie, Laura, and T.J. Lillian J. Kauth, age 82, went to her eternal home Wednesday June 9, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center. Lillian was born in Racine December 15, 1927, daughter of the late August and Adelia (nee: Gerhke) Keller.

On June 3, 1950, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Racine, Lillian married the love of her life, Herbert A. Kauth and recently celebrated 60 years together. Currently, she was a member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church. Herb and Lillian loved boating and were longtime members of the 5th Street Yacht Club where she was a member of the women’s auxiliary. Lillian was office manager and co-owner of Herb Kauth Electric, Inc. until her retirement. In her spare time, she enjoyed flower arranging, and most of all spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her loving husband of sixty years, Herbert; her children, Suzanne (Gary) Cooper of Racine, Penny (Daniel) George of Lincoln, CA, Herbert “Tim” (Patricia) Kauth of Cincinnati, OH; her four grandchildren, Peter (Michelle) Cooper, Samantha (Kurt) Hietala, Keegan George, Michael Mogren; her four great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Jacob, Cooper and Isabella; sister, Ruth (Kenneth) Oldenburg of Racine; sisters-in-law, Violet Bartel of Springfield, MO, Agnes (Richard) Reinhard of West Allis, Marian Borchardt of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 14, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, 1700 S. Green Bay Road, with Rev. Kara Baylor officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m. Memorials to Hospice Alliance or the Nurses Foundation of Racine have been suggested.

Patrick M. Pissard

Patrick Michel Pissard, age 54, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family and friends at his side, after fighting a hard battle with cancer on June 8, 2010.

Patrick was born in Paris, France, March 29, 1955, son of Georges René Pissard, and Suzanne Geneviéve (Nee: Dubruylle) Pissard Peterson. Patrick and his family came to live in Racine in 1971.

Patrick was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and being with his friends, hosting many Packer parties.

Survivors include his granddaughter, Faith Pissard; his grandson, Dante Pissard; mother, Suzanne Pissard Peterson of Racine; brother, George (Ann (Nee: Brackhahn) Pissard of Waterford; nieces, Kristal Pissard and Dominique Pissard of Racine; nephews, Jeremy Pissard of Racine and Jacques Pissard of Kenosha and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Georges; his daughter, Narissa; and his brother, Jacques Louis Pissard.

Relatives and friends may meet Monday, June 14, 2010, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Private interment will be held at Graceland Cemetery.

A special thanks to Jackie, Judy, Diane, Amy, and Chaplin Terry Peterson from Southeastern Wisconsin Hospice Care for their faithfulness in keeping Patrick in their special care during his time of need. Mary E. (Lanphear) Vanoss

Mary E. Vanoss, age 84, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at the Becker-Shoop Center. Mary was born in St. Paul, MN, September 20, 1925, daughter of the late Raymond and Florence (Nee: Johnson) Lanphear.

On January 18, 1941, in Racine she was united in marriage to Leon A. Vanoss who preceded her in death in 1962. Mary was employed by St. Mary’s Medical Center as a supervisor for thirty years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Auxiliary. More than anything, Mary loved being in the surroundings of her family. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her children, Lee (Deacon Terry) Maack of Kenosha, Judy (fiance, Bill Howe) Schutts of Cordova, IL, Carol (Gary) Brown of Racine, Roni (Jim) Smith of Racine, Leon (Mary) Vanoss of Kenosha, Frank Vanoss of Racine; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three children, her infant son, Frank Joseph, Madalyn (Roland) Wampole, Mary Lou King; son-in-law, David Schutts; and special friend, Grace Buchaklian.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2201 Northwestern Ave., with Rev. Ronald O. Crewe and Rev. Earl F. Decker

Earl F. Decker, age 95, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center. Earl was born in Racine, June 9, 1914, son of the late Arthur and Marie (Nee: Kucera) Decker.

On June 26, 1937, he was united in marriage to Mary M. Taggart, who preceded him in death on May 6, 1974. Earl was employed by S.C. Johnson Wax for thirty-nine years, retiring in 1977. He was a longtime member and usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church, member of the Catholic Men’s and S.C. Johnson “20-Year Club.” Above all he will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his children, Patrick (Betty) Decker, Thomas (Joanne) Decker, Kathleen Pfefferle, Daniel (Cindy) Decker, Michael Decker (Joye Landish); 12 grandchildren;18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; special great-niece “Pen Pal” Laurie Kirby; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his son, James; sisters, Margaret (John) Cunningham, Dorothy (Clare) McGrath; stepmother, Meta; and special friend, Stella Hartman.

Huron 'Les' Ericson, M.D.

Huron Leslie Ericson, M.D., age 71, passed away from pulmonary fibrosis Saturday, June 5, 2010, at University Hospital in Madison.

Les was born in Milwaukee, WI, April 30, 1939, son of the late Pierce and LaVaughn (Nee: Smith) Ericson.

He graduated from Shorewood High School in 1957 and DePauw University in 1961. He then attended medical school at Northwestern University where he graduated in 1965. He interned at St. Paul Ramsey Hospital in Minnesota and completed his residency program at Hines-Loyola Hospitals in Chicago in 1970. After residency, he served two years as a major in the U.S. Army from 1970-1972. During his second year, he served as an orthopedic surgeon in Vietnam. Before he left for Vietnam, he brought his family to Racine in 1971, and he joined them here in 1972, where he practiced orthopedics until he retired in 2007.

On September 21, 1963, in Milwaukee he married Mary M. Hoye of Kenosha, WI. They have three daughters, Julie, Emily and Katie. Dr. Ericson was a longtime member of the Racine County Medical Society, Wisconsin State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He also was a member of the American College of Surgeons, and an Emeritus member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Les was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where he had served on the vestry. He also belonged to the Racine Country Club, where he enjoyed playing tennis and, later, golf with his family and good friends.

His other interests included bridge, travel and, after retirement, cooking and the Harry Potter chronicles. He also loved spending time with his West Highland terrier, Maddie, going for walks, relaxing outside on a lounge chair, or riding in the car with Maddie hanging out the window. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and caring for his patients. In the last six years, a new happiness came to his life in the form of his grandchildren, Beth, Anna, Ryan and Will. They fondly referred to him as "Pago" and loved spending time with him whether reading books or going to the park. The Ericsons most recent family trip was a visit to Disney World in April where he shared in his grandchildren's excitement and a ride on Dumbo with Ryan. He will be dearly missed by all.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Mary; three daughters, Julie A Ericson, M.D. of Chicago, IL, Emily (David) Elewany of Winnetka, IL, Katie (David) Ziegenhorn of Waukesha; four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ryan Elewany, Anna and Will Ziegenhorn; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Linda Ericson of Atherton, CA, Roy and Rhonda Ericson of Waukesha, Judy Barden of Kenosha, Pauline Hoye of Mentor, OH; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Jack Barden, Jack Hoye, and Robert and wife, Harriet Hoye.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 11, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 614 Main St., with Reverend Liz Simmons and Rev. James L. Heidenreich

Surrounded by his loving family at his home, James L. Heidenreich dropped off the twig on Friday, June 4, 2010, at the age of 71, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born in Chicago, IL, March 9, 1939, son of the late William J. Heidenreich Jr. and Marie (Nee: Knudsen) Heidenreich.

He is survived by children, William J. (Amanda), Joseph N. (Pamela), Paula (John) King, Tina Frank, Kelly Heidenreich and 14 grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers K.W. (Joyce), Richard (Darlene); sisters, Janet (Dennis) Cranley, Laura Lee Frees, Karen (Robert) Everson, Joan (the late Paul) Duratny. Very dear friend, Kristin Bogenberger, and many, many nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, George L., Robert J.; and sister, Dorothy Shumway.

Jim was raised in Racine, WI, and attended St. Catherine’s High School. He joined the United States Marine Corps where he earned no medals, fought no wars, but he served proudly for three years.

In 1967 he began working for the predecessor of the Milwaukee Transit System. He was a driver, Union President of Local 998 of the Amalgamated Transit Union and station clerk, retiring in 1996. During that time he also served as vice-president of the Milwaukee County Labor Council and was twice a Democratic candidate for the State Assembly.

Jim then joined Johnson Bank in downtown Milwaukee where he was the Courier Banking Manager, retiring in March of 2009.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, N74 W13604 Appleton Ave., Menomonee Falls, with Rev. Dennis Wieland officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Sixteen Inch Society; 735 N. Water St, #720; Milwaukee, WI 53202 The funds contributed will support the Jim Heidenreich Learning Center at the Repairers of the Breach.

It was Jim’s wish to be cremated. A “hooley” will be held after the Mass at Derry’s Pub at 54th and Bluemound.

Rafael Cruz Lagunas

Rafael Cruz Lagunas, age 81, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010, at his residence. Rafael was born in Michoacan, Mexico, March 1, 1929, son of the late Victor and Mercedes (Nee: Cruz) Lagunas.

Rafael moved to Racine in 1996 after his son was in an accident. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his eight children, Anita (Miguel) Ayala, Guillermo Lagunas, Victor Lagunas, Rafael (Linda) Lagunas, Jose Lagunas, Matilda (Martin) Reyes, Daniel (Maribel) Lagunas, Javier Lagunas (Maria Jimenez); 25 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at 5 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1100 Erie St., with Rev. Esteban Redolad officiating. Interment will be held in Michoacan, Mexico. Kathy E. (Ellison) Coates

Kathy Ellison Coates passed away unexpectedly on June 2, 2010. She was born on March 19, 1950, in Fayetteville, N.C.

Kathy is survived by her daughter, Ellison Coates Thomas (Stephen) of New York, NY, and son, Glenn Christopher Coates of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by her mother, Audrey Ellison Ferguson; step-father, Curtis Campbell Ferguson; sister, Jo Anne Ellison McKinney (Rea), all of Jacksonville, FL; and niece, Elizabeth Warwick Higginbottom (Chris), of London, England. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Christopher Ellison; and nephew, Joseph Grant Prather, both of Jacksonville, FL.

Brett, Dawn, Andrew and Grant Beaulieu were beloved friends of Kathy’s and will miss her deeply.

A natural-born teacher, Kathy graduated from Stetson University, DeLand, FL, in 1972. She pursued her love of all things French by studying also at the University of Neuchatel in Switzerland. She taught high school French in Longwood, FL, before moving to Racine in 1988. She was employed by J.I. Case Company and, for the last 10 years, ran her marketing and communications company, Smart Works.

Volunteer service was important to Kathy and she served with the RSVP volunteer center. She also volunteered her time and professional services to The Big Fun Foundation, in Jacksonville, FL, a 501(c)(3) organization established by her late nephew.

Relatives and friends are welcome to visit with the family on Monday, June 7, 2010, at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. A Time of Remembering Kathy’s Life will follow at 6 p.m. It is Kathy’s wish that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to The Big Fun Foundation, 3375 Picadilly Lane, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
