Richard D. Smith

Richard D. Smith, age 75, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010, at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI.  Richard was born in Detroit, MI, February 28, 1935, son of the late Thomas L. and Dorothy A. (Nee:  LeRoux) Smith and had been a resident of Racine since 1964. 

He proudly served with the United States Marine Corps.  While in the service at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA, he was united in marriage to Evelyn M. Hagle on February 1, 1955.  Richard was employed in sales for many years, last working at Nelson Electric.  He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church.  Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, and time spent with his friends at the VFW  Above all he treasured his family.  He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Evelyn; his children, Richard Smith II of Racine, Rhonda (Christopher) Mares of Chandler, AZ, Thomas (Mary Jo) Smith of Racine; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, William (Ruth) Smith, Dennis (Deanna) Smith, Janet (Donald) Kosteretz, all of AZ; Aunt June Badour of Bay City, MI; sisters-in-law, Pearl Fierstien of Saginaw, MI, Dorothy (Kenneth) Ball of Montrose, MI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 21, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Monica’s Senior Citizen Home Chapel, 3920 N. Green Bay Road, with Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating.  Interment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Monday at St. Monica’s Senior Citizen Home Chapel from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:30 a.m.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Nurse Practitioner, Dina Twigg, and to her nurse, Ann, and to the Palliative Care Unit at Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center for their loving and compassionate care.
