George P. Caynak

George P. Caynak, age 87, passed away Monday, August 2, 2010, at Ridgewood Care Center. He was born in Racine, March 29, 1923, son of the late Peter and Mary (Nee: Dugas) Caynak.

George graduated from Washington Park High School “Class of 1942." During WWII he served in the U.S. Army stationed in the South Pacific on Okinawa. On April 10, 1948, he was united in marriage to Mary A. Riebe who preceded him in death August 5, 1995. George was employed at Twin Disc for over 30 years retiring in 1985 and was a member of the Twin Disc Twenty-Five Year Club. He had previously worked at Massey-Ferguson. George enjoyed tinkering around the house, traveling, taking car rides, and going to concerts at the bandshell. He was always willing to help someone in need. Above all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his children, Linda (Bruce) Petersen of Racine, Susan Barrows of Peshtigo, WI, JoAnn (Michael) Beauchamp of Marquette, MI; David Caynak of Racine; seven grandchildren, Kristin Barrows, Eric (Heather) Peterson, Sara (Samuel) Smits, Daniel, Matthew, April and Amy Beauchamp; two great-granddaughters, Nicole Barrows and Jesselyn Widen; a brother, Lt Col Ret John (Majole) Caynak of Twenty Nine Palms, CA; sisters, Florence (Frank) Bogyos of Burlington, Sue Halkowitz of Racine; sister-in-law, Marjorie Riebe of Camden, SC; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by three sisters, Anna Hudec, Mary Schmaling and Margaret Secanky; and his special friend, Violet Kuske.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 6, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Reverend David Echelbarger officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet Friday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.. Memorials to one’s favorite charity or the American Stroke Assn have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staffs at Ridgewood Care Center, Hawthorne House, Willowgreen and Hospice Alliance for their loving and compassionate care.
