Helen M. (Chvilicek) Mayer

Surrounded by her loving family, Helen Mary Mayer, age 87, passed away Friday, August 13, 2010, at home. She was born in Kansas daughter of the late Vincent and Agnes (Nee: Kupka) Chvilicek and they moved to Racine when Helen was a young girl.

Helen graduated from Wm Horlick High School. On July 14, 1945, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Peter L. Mayer. Together they raised twelve children. Peter passed away May 20, 1979. Helen was a lifelong member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, needlepoint, reading, the Milwaukee Brewers, and most of all her grandchildren. She was a loving and devoted mother grandmother and great grandmother and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are twelve children: Kathy (Dennis) Hoffman of Cedarburg, Michael (Nancy) Mayer of Racine, Peter Mayer of Racine, Susan Roushia of Monroe Center, IL, Lorraine (Lynn) Daniels of Shell Lake, WI, Loretta (Sam) Ferraro of Racine, Patricia (Tony) Zbichorski of Racine, Thomas Mayer of Shell Lake, WI, Joseph (Pam) Mayer of Racine, WI, William (Christine) Mayer of Raymond, Stephen Mayer of Racine, Robert (Loretta) Mayer of Racine; 31 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Beatrice Niesen, Evelyn Jorgensen and Rosemary (Donald) Veselik; nieces, nephews other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she also was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Graham; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Mayer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., with Rev. Kevin Mullins OSA officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy. 32. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family for visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass.
