Richard W. Cape

After a long and happy life, surrounded by his loving family, Richard W. Cape, age 86, passed into the wild blue Sunday morning, August 22, 2010.  Richard was born in Racine, January 29, 1924, son of the late Benjamin P. and Sina Andrea (Nee:  Bislow) Cape. 

During World War II Richard proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps 762 Bomb Squad flying B24 bombers on twenty-six missions over Germany and Italy.  Richard graduated with an accounting degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  On April 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jeanne M. Stoppleworth.  In his early career he and his family resided in the San Francisco area from 1961 until 1968 when they returned to Racine.   Richard was employed as Vice President of Sales with Western Publishing for thirty-five years until his retirement in 1983.  Richard was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Sales and Marketing Club of Racine.   He and his wife Jeanne enjoyed twenty-three years in Fort Meyers as snow birds.  Richard had an infectious personality with great humor and will be dearly missed. 

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty years, Jeanne; his children, Richard (Deborah) Wayne Cape II of Fort Collins, CO, Rebecca Cape (Stanley) Postorino, Carrie S. Cape (Steven) Jacobs of Monterey, CA; his grandchildren, Nicholas Cape Postorino, Sina Nicole Postorino (Ryan) Teskey, Abigail Pearl Cape, Madison Clare Cape, Henry Francis Jacobs, Benjamin Cape Jacobs; sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert Cape Arlene; nephews and nieces, Mr. Fritz (Cherri) Cape, Ruth Cape (Steve) Kent, Sina Cape (Wayne) Downs, Christopher (Amy) Cape, John (Betty) Konnak; other relatives and many dear friends including the Thursday Morning Breakfast Club.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, Milo (Ethel) Cape, Ruth (Dr. William) Konnak, Donald (Jane) Cape, Gordon (Nadja) Cape, Frederick (Elizabeth, Nancy) Cape, Warren Robert (Mary Jane, Arlene) Cape; and nieces and nephews. 

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 26, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 745 Main St.  , with Rev. Liz Simmonds officiating.  Private interment will be held.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the church from 9 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church have been suggested.
