Norbert H. Kosterman Sr.

Norbert H. Kosterman Sr., age 92, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Ridgewood Care Center.  He was born October 14, 1920, in Racine to John B. and Oneita (Myers) Kosterman.

He attended St. John Nepomuk Grade School and William Horlick High School.  On January 25, 1947, he married Rosemary Filpi at St. Patrick’s church.  She preceded him in death in August 2007.  Norbert served in World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Infantry 114th Division in France and Germany in intelligence and reconnaissance.  He was employed as a bookkeeper/accountant for several small businesses and retired from Wisconsin Natural Gas Co. after 21 years as an auditor.

As a young man he was a gymnast and sang in several choirs.  He loved to sing and harmonize.  He was an avid golfer well into his 80's and shot a hole-in-one at Johnson Park at age 80.  He enjoyed playing cards at the VFW and was largely responsible for teaching his children and grandchildren to play cribbage.

He was a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church.

Norbert is survived by his children, Norbert Jr. (the late Katy), Mary Jane (John) Braun, and James (Maria); grandchildren, Chris, Mike (Leigh), Matt (Sandy), Liz (Abe), Katie, Anne (Dave), Patrick (Courtney), BJ, and Melissa (Roosevelt); 14 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Gloria and Faris; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ambrose, Vince, Larry, Jerry and Mark; and sisters, Bernadine and Ursula.

In keeping with Norbert’s wishes, his body was donated to the Medical College of Wisconsin.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at 6 p.m. at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the church from 5 p.m. until time of Mass at 6 p.m., concluding with Full Military Honors.  Memorials may be made to St. Lucy Catholic Church or Wisconsin Right to Life.

Family would like to thank the staff at Ridgewood Care Center, 1 West, for the compassionate and dignified care given to Norb and his family. God bless you.

Dear Kosterman Family of Racine,

So very sorry to hear of Norbert's passing. Nib's was my dad, Mark Kosterman, brother.
