Rose Marie (Holbik) Kandl

Rose M. Kandl, age 94, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at Willowcrest Care Center, South Milwaukee.  Rose was born in Racine on January 10, 1918, daughter of the late John M. and Frances (Nee:  Kovarik) Holbik.

Rose was a graduate of William Horlick High School.  She was united in marriage to Robert E. Kandl, Sr. in June 1937, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church; he preceded her in death on January 5, 1995.  She retired from Massey Ferguson, where she was employed as a key punch operator for twenty-three years.  After she retired she moved to Santa Barbara, California, with her husband where she volunteered for many years at St. Francis Hospital in Montecito, CA.  In 1985, she returned to Racine, where she would now spend time with her family and friends, shopping, luncheons and aerobics.  She was a devoted Christian and a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, JoAnn Kandl of Racine; three grandchildren, Michael S. (Anita) Kandl of Burlington, Jodie (Eric) Webber of Racine, Shelly (John) Mertins of Melbourne, FL; her ten great-grandchildren, Shannyn Kandl, Stephanie Kandl, Melissa Kandl, Shelby Kandl, Nichole Pitchford and Sean Pitchford, Jessica Gorman, Taylor Gorman, Andrew Mertins and Luke Mertins; and seven great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Irene Holbik; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert E. Kandl, Jr.; her great-grandson, John Thomas Mertins; her brothers, Emil, Charles, John (Evelyne), Edward (Edith), Walter (Mary), and Frank; her sisters, Elsie (Thomas) Roberts and Helen Holbik.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 6, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., with Rev. Steve Varghese officiating.  Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32.  Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m.
