Sister Agnes Marie Kohel, O.P.

Sister Agnes Marie Kohel, O.P., 92, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine, on Sunday, November 4, 2012.

Lorraine Elizabeth was born July 7, 1920, to Carl and Agnes (nee: Veltus) Kohel in Racine, WI. On August 30, 1935, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1937 she was given the religious name Sister Agnes Marie. She professed her first vows in 1939 and her final vows in 1945.

Sister Agnes Marie spent many years in service to others as a teacher and as a principal. She began her ministry in 1939 at SS. Peter and Paul, Green Bay, WI. Other places in Wisconsin where she served were St. John, Little Chute; St. Victor, Monroe; Holy Cross, Kaukauna; St. Augustine, Wausaukee; St. Bernard, Madison; St. Mary, Tomah; St. Rose, Racine; St. Francis Xavier, Merrill; and St. Louis, Caledonia. From 1977 to 1984 she served as an Administrator at Our Lady of the Oaks, Pewaukee. After moving to Siena Center in 1984 she did Community Service. She became a resident at Lakeshore Manor, Racine in April, 2010.

Sister Agnes Marie is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her brother, Lester (Jean); nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers, Donald, Ralph, Charles and infant brother Everett; and sister, Lucille Toutant.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Thursday, November 8, 2012, beginning at 9 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.

The Racine Dominicans would like to extend their thanks to the staff that cared for Sister Agnes Marie at Lakeshore Manor.
