John Meldgaard

John A. Meldgaard, 68, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 28, 2010.  He passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family.  He was born in Racine on March 4, 1942, the son of Jerome and Mae (nee: Lembke) Meldgaard.  On October 4, 1969, he was united in marriage to Shirley Anderson at Franksville United Methodist Church.

John was a Boy Scout and attended the Scout World Jubilee in Sutton Park, Warwickshire, England, in 1957.  He graduated from Washington Park High School in 1960.  In 1964, he worked at the New York World’s Fair at the Golden Rondelle.  John attended the University of Florida – Gainesville and was a co-op student with NASA on the Saturn C-1 flight vehicle in Huntsville, AL, and Allis-Chalmers.  He received his engineering degree from Marquette University in 1967.  John was employed by SC Johnson for 38 years, retiring in August 2007.

John’s true love was Jesus Christ.  He studied God’s word diligently and his faith in action was readily apparent to others.  His quiet radiance and Godly, humble, caring nature drew others to him like a magnet as he shared his faith.  Those of us who knew John were privileged and blessed to have known him.  John’s deepest and earnest desire was to honor and glorify God.

John loved his family and is survived by Shirley, his wife of 40 years; daughter, Sara (Scott) McDonald; son Mark (Rebecca Moe) Meldgaard; and son, Eric Meldgaard; four grandchildren, Clara and Annelise McDonald, Hannah and Aiden Meldgaard; sister, Gail (Lee) Pullen; mother-in-law, Anna Anderson; sister-in-law, Carol (Roger) Exner; brother-in-law, Gary (Kathy) Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Carl Anderson, Jr.; aunt and uncle, Janet and Willard Lembke, aunt and uncle, Ruth and Lloyd Doenier; and cousin Karen Brown.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ritch and his staff at the Froedtert Cancer Clinic; members of Grace Church; and the many friends and family who helped pray and care for John.

Please join the family in celebrating John’s life with Christ on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Grace Church, 3626 Hwy 31.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., with funeral service at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Jerry Worsham officiating. Graveside service will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorials to Grace Church, Salvation Army, or Samaritan’s Purse have been suggested.
