John Shelley Hart Jr.

John Shelley Hart, Jr., lifelong resident of Racine, died on March 5, 2010, in Racine after a brief illness. John was born June 5, 1919, in Racine to John Shelley Hart and Hannah Chappell Hall.

His families were the pioneers of Racine. He was a descendant of Lucius Blake, John Simpson Hart and Benjamin Wright Hall, all founders of Racine and the Racine Woolen Mills.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Margaret Hart Schiffmayer and Willis Clayton Hart. He is survived by his nephews, Karl “Fritz” Schiffmayer and wife, Tina, of Barrington, Illinois, the Reverend Jeffrey P. Schiffmayer and wife, Sylvia, of Houston, Texas; and great-nephews, David J. Schiffmayer and wife, Julie, and children of Dallas, Texas, and John M. Schiffmayer, Paris, France.

John graduated from the University of Wisconsin in electrical engineering, and retired from Allen Bradley Company in Milwaukee, where he received several awards for his patents. He was a lifelong member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where he has served in various offices in the church and was generously involved in outreach programs.

Funeral services will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 614 Main St., on Saturday, March 12, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Liz Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Mound Cemetery, Racine. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.
