Marie B. (Gross) Opahle

Marie B. Opahle, age 85, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010, at Wheaton-Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Marie was born in Racine, April 14, 1924, daughter of the late John J. and Barbara M. (Nee: Sipple) Gross.

Marie was a graduate of St. John Nepomuk Grade School and William Horlick High School. On January 5, 1943, in Odessa, Texas, she was united in marriage to Gerald P. Opahle. Marie was employed by Gleason Corporation for thirteen years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. Marie enjoyed crafts, crocheting and reading. Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, Gerald “Jerry;” her seven children, Gerald Opahle (Patti), Patricia (Dennis) Maller, John (Sue) Opahle, David (Kathy) Opahle, Richard (Gayle) Opahle, Jeffrey (Kim) Opahle, Robert Opahle (Mary Ellen); grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Scott, Nikki, Stacy, Greg, Ryan, Jennifer, Krissy, Kyle, Ben, Jennie and Becky; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Soens, Margaret (Clyde) Sustacheck; sister-in-law, Pearl Gross; brother-in-law, Edward Reagan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Alfred, Felix, Norbert, Jerome, John (KIA in World War II); infant John, Evelyn Janaky, Lorraine Hansen, and Catherine Reagan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 5, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 1903 Green St., with Rev. Don Zerkel officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Kinzie Avenue. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. (Prayer Vigil at 7 p.m.) and Friday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Memorials to St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church have been suggested.
