James W. Jensen

James W. Jensen, age 87, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010, at his residence. He was born in Racine, August 28, 1922 son of the late James and Clara (Minarek) Jensen.

James graduated from William Horlick High School and was certified by Racine Technical Institute as a surgical technician.  He had a passion for music including singing in the choir and playing the trumpet with the Racine Band, Les Boeck and his Orchestra, and with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, before being drafted.  During World War II he served in the United States Army stationed in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from the Racine Fire Department where he was employed as a firefighter for 25 years. During retirement he enjoyed driving for SC Johnson for 10 years. James was a member of the VFW, the Knights of Columbus and the Racine Retired Fire Fighters. He enjoyed traveling, visiting family in Florida and fishing.  He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his seven children, Catherine (Chester) Williams, Dennis (Melissa) Jensen, Theresa (Rich) Jones, Edward (Pam) Jensen; Patricia (Clay) Huntsman, Kenneth (Ann) Jensen, Marie (Tim) Stone; 11 step-children; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grand child; other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Doris (Nee: Sorensen) Jensen, and tjree brothers, John, George and Paul.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., with Reverend Mark Jones officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet Wednesday at the church, 10 a.m.  until time of Mass.
