Jerry R. Schmidt

Jerry R. Schmidt, age 70, passed away suddenly on Monday November 24, 2014, at home.  Jerry was born August 27, 1944, in Randolph Wisconsin, son of the late John P and Lucy (Beranek) Schmidt.

Jerry graduated from Randolph High School and went on to earn a business degree from UW-Whitewater. While at Whitewater, he met his true love, Sandra, who sadly preceded him in death on November 2, 2005.

Jerry was a proud member of the UW-Whitewater Warhawks football team and of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, where he made many life-long friends.  After college he continued to play football for teams including the Richmond Virginia Rebels and the Racine Raiders.  He was inducted into the UW-Whitewater Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986.

Jerry spent his entire professional career with Wisconsin Bell, Inc. and their subsidiaries in the marketing department and as a system design consultant. After retirement, Jerry spent many years as a youth and young adult baseball umpire, and as a conference attendant at Wingspread.

Jerry was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, and an avid fan of the Warhawks, Badgers, Packers and Cubs. He liked to play golf and travel, and was looking forward to a springtime tour of Italy. Most importantly, Jerry was a kind and generous man, devoted husband and wonderful father. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Survivors include his daughter, Sara (Niall) McCue of Cedarburg; sister-in-law, Sherry Johnson of Shorewood; mother-in-law, Ione Patterson of Milwaukee; niece, Jill Weinberger of Watertown and her children, Mariah, Nolan and Arianna; nephew, Patrick McMenamin of Cape Girardeau, MO; niece,  Maureen(Don) Willoh of Jefferson City, MO and their children, Sam and Joe.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy; brothers, Joseph and John G. Schmidt; and sister, Aurelia Schmidt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., with Rev. Terrance J. Huebner officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Private interment will be held.
