Sister Therese (Duane) Hoffmann, O.P.

Sister Therese Hoffmann, O.P., 89, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine, WI, on Wednesday, November 12, 2014.

Therese Marguerite was born on July 6, 1925, to Albert J. and Margaret C. (nee: Hansen) in Detroit, MI. On September 14, 1950 she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1951 she was given the religious name Sister Duane. She professed her first vows in 1953 and her final vows in 1959. In 1968 she returned to using her baptismal name, Therese.

Sister Therese spent many years in service to others in teaching and directing activities in a nursing home. She began her ministry in 1953 at Assumption Grotto, Detroit, MI. Places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Mary, Tomah, and St. Andrew, Knowles.

She also served in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at Our Lady of Guadalupe and in Evansville, Indiana, at Regina Pacis Home. From 1975-1993 she worked at the Cadillac Nursing Home in Detroit, MI, as the Activity Director.

After moving to Siena Center in 2006 she became a Senior Companion Visitor. In January 2013 she became a resident of Lakeshore Manor, Racine.

Sister Therese is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her sister, Marie Kobane; sister-in-law, Doris Hoffmann; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers, Hilary, Bruno, Duane, Leo, Donald and Philip; and her sister, Marcella Hoffman.

A Remembering Service will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Monday, November 17, beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.

The Racine Dominicans would like to extend their thanks to the staff that cared for Sister Therese at Lakeshore Manor.
