FOND DU LAC - Edmund Riedner, 94, passed away March 22, 2010, at Manor Care Nursing home in Fond du Lac, WI. He was born February 12, 1916, in Miroslaw, Poland, to Gottfried and Lydia Riedner. On November 2, 1939, Edmund married Elsa Gross. Edmund and Elsa celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last fall. Ed and his family immigrated from West Germany to the U.S. in 1956 and lived in Union City, N.J.
For over 50 years, he lived and worked in Racine, WI. He was a long-time member of the German Church of God in Racine and later the First Church of God in Racine. During the last few years he attended Calvary Bible Church of Fond du Lac. His passion was tending to his vegetable garden on a small plot in back of his house. He also enjoyed playing his harmonica. His contagious smile will be missed.
Edmund is survived by his wife, Elsa; and four sons, Helmut (Ursula) of Edmonton, Canada, Herbert (Carol) of Fond du Lac, Horst (Ginny) of Union City, CA, and Manfred of Clear Lake, CA. He had four grandchildren, Sandra Weidner, Martin Riedner, Eric Riedner and Rebecca Riedner. He was the proud great-grandfather of triplets. Ed is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, all living in Germany.
Services will be held at First Church of God, 1650 Lathrop Ave., on Friday, March 26, 2010, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
