Dorothy M. Chester

Dorothy M. Chester, 85, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Sunday, February 28, 2010.

Dorothy was born in Milbank, SD, on April 24, 1924, to Louis and Daisy (nee, Manning) Nordquist. She married Adams Chester who preceded her in death on March 22, 1989. Dorothy was employed by Northwest Airlines, Oster Mfg. and last working and retiring from Jacobsen Mfg. She loved horses and crafting, but most of all she loved playing bingo.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Marsha (Mike) Slayton, Linda (Bob) Lloyd, Richard (Cathy) Chester and Shirley Chester; grandchildren, Jon (Michele), Ben (Jennifer), Wendie, Terri (Mark), Traci, Tammi (Phil), Pamela (Terry), Joey (Tonya) and Michelle; great-grandchildren, Saundra, Shauna, James, Christopher, Carmen, Sean, Maverick, Maximum, Stacy, Ashlee, Kelsey, Hayleigh, Danielle, Mitchell, Aric, Conner, Terra, Kileen and Chelsea; great-great-grandchildren, Cameron, Iynna and Terriyah; and her sisters and brother, Beverly Jensen, Donald (Betty) Nordquist and Bonnie Aesoph. Dorothy is also survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Meryl Nordquist, Harvey Nordquist, Harold Nordquist and Elroy Nordquist.

Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 8500 Durand Ave., on Friday, March 5, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

'Polly' Margaret T. Strak

“Polly” Margaret T. (nee: Welch) Strak, passed away on Sunday February 28, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints. Polly was born in Pomfret, Maryland, on July 28, 1941, the daughter of Archie and Hazel (nee: Wenk) Welch. She was united in marriage to Thomas Strak in Pomfret, Maryland.

Polly was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church, Kenosha Car Club and Classic Cruisers of Racine, Wendy’s Group Club, and former member of Racine Moose Lodge. She was employed at St. Monica’s for more than fifteen years and DeRango’s on Six Mile for over five years. Polly found great enjoyment in playing Bingo, the Brewers and the Yankees, in addition to cooking and camping.

Polly is survived by her husband, Tom; children, Gail (Ernie) Petrowsky, Teresa Williams, Susan Flick, Damian (Charlotte) Strak, and Leonard Strak, all of Racine. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, Erica, ShaiAnn, Joseph, Kyle, Ashley, Brianna, Chelesa, Cody and Brandon; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph (Dee) Welch; three sisters, Margie Welch, Barbara Jean ( John) Begovich, Linda Welch; sister-in-law, Linda Welch.

Polly is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two children, Thomas Jr. and Inez, and one brother, Lee Welch.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., with Rev. Ray Elam O.S.A. officiating. Entombment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Highway 32. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday March 3, 2010, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. and visitation at church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of mass at 10:30 a.m.

Michael M. Nelson

Michael M. Nelson, 76, passed away at his home on February 27, 2010.

Michael Nelson was born in Racine to the late Carl Lee and Agnes Marie (nee: Wasquite) Nelson and had lived in Racine for his whole life. He was united in marriage to Judith Ann Winsall who preceded him in death on March 5, 1965.

Mr. Nelson was employed at J.I. Case Company and retired in 1990. He was a member of the Case 30-Year Club. He liked to go bowling and fishing. He enjoyed life and a good time, but most importantly loved to be with his family and friends.

Michael is survived by three sons, Stuart (Sandra) Brown, Charles M. Nelson and Steven (Roberta) Nelson; six grandchildren, Jason and Brian MacDowell, Stuart M. Brown II, Amanda Gano, Megan Reed and Emily Nelson; three great-grandchildren, Tyler MacDowell, Nina and Donavan Gano; two sisters and one brother, Ruth Garski, Margie Jurik and Joseph Nelson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister-in-law, James, Carl (Hildegard), Raymond and Kenneth Nelson; and two brothers-in-law, Chester Garski and Joseph Jurik.

Elmer A. Anderson

Elmer A. Anderson, age 90, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010, at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI. Elmer was born in Knox, North Dakota, on November 7, 1919, son of the late Elmer A. and Florence M. Anderson.

During World War II, Elmer served in the United States Army Air Corps Seventeenth Bomb Group. On January 12, 1946, he was united in marriage to Ann M. Graceffa who preceded him in death, May 29, 1999.

Elmer was employed by Twin Disc for twenty-three years, retiring in 1984. His previous employment included Massey-Harris and Osters Manufacturing. He was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church. Elmer was also a life member of VF Post 1391 and their Firing Squad. In his earlier years, he excelled in high school football. His pastimes included golfing and fishing. More than anything, he loved being with family. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bill (Charlene) Anderson; grandsons, Bill Jr. and Warren Anderson; sister, Florence Anderson, all of Racine; brother-in-law, Eric Newman of Bradenton, FL; sister-in-law, Eileen Anderson-Bolton of Chicago, IL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his sisters, Violet Newman, Marie (Earl) Venne; brother, William Anderson and his daughter, Billie Severign.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the First Evangelical Free Church, 2401 Ohio St. Interment with Full Military Honors will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Joan R. (DeFrang) Marciniak

Joan R. Marciniak, age 55, passed away unexpectedly due to complications of cancer on Saturday, February 27, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Dexter M. and Rita M. (Nee: Zeihen) DeFrang.

On May 8, 1976, at St. Mark’s Church in Kenosha she was united in marriage to Thomas Marciniak. Joan was employed in Delicatessen Management in various grocery stores for many years. She was an avid bowler in numerous leagues, and enjoyed going on casino trips. Above all she treasured time spent with family and friends, especially time with her granddaughter, Grace. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her loving husband of thirty-three years, Thomas; her sons and daughters-in-law, Tim (Natalie) Marciniak of Kenosha, WI, Mike (Shelley) Marciniak of Green Bay, WI; her granddaughter, Grace; two brothers, Mark DeFrang (Mary McCann) of Franksville, WI; Charles DeFrang (Sue Buck) of Madison, WI; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Tomas A. Gonzalez

Tomas A. Gonzalez, age 76, passed away Friday, February 26, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. He was born in Cotulla, TX, on February 25, 1934, son of the late Santiago and Manuela (Nee: Alejandro) Gonzalez.

On June 23, 1988, at Racine he was united in marriage to Silvia Arebalo. Tomas was employed by Racine Malleable for 38 years, retiring from Racine Steel in 1999. He also was a security guard at the Racine Airport for a number of years. Tomas and Silvia owned and operated Gonzalez Club for 13 years until 2001. He was a member of Cristo Rey Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing pool, music and loved to dance. Tomas also cherished time spent with his many godchildren. Above all it was spending time with his family and friends that he treasured most. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Silvia; son and daughter-in-law, Juan (Elvia) Rodriguez of Racine; three grandchildren, Juan Jr., Florentino (Jane), and Rachel Marie; three great-grandchildren, Cyrus, Cassidy, and Corey; his god-daughter, Gabriella Gallegos; special friends, Tanya Chavez and daughters, Giselle and Georgiana; sister, Francisca (Ramiro) Ortiz of Racine; brothers, Santiago (Maria) Gonzalez and Arnulfo Gonzalez. all of Cotulla, TX; sister-in-law, Ydolina (Pedro) Borrego of Mundelein, IL; brother-in-law, Juan Rubio of San Antonio, TX; nieces, nephews other relatives and many dear friends. Adrienne Jade Gumm

Adrienne Jade Gumm, 18, received her wings on February 26, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Adrienne was born in Milwaukee and resided in Racine for all of her short life. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching home movies, swimming and riding her bike. She looked forward to summers in which she was able to play baseball with her friends through Wisconsin Shores Little League Challenger Division. Adrienne touched the lives of everyone she met. She will be deeply missed by all.

Adrienne is survived by her loving parents, Kristi Vogt and Harvey Kost; twin sister, Allison; grandparents, Hilary and Janice Vogt, Chris Kost; aunts, Jenny (Tyler) Johnson, Jenny Kost; cousin, Derek Johnson; and very special friend, Stephanie Villarreal. She is further survived by many dear friends and family members too numerous to mention.

Adrienne was preceded in death by her great grandparents, Helen and Alvin Hess, Pauline Vogt; and special friend, Quentin Joas.

Lester R. Eaton

Lester R. Eaton, age 88, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Wheaton-Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Lester was born in Mauston, WI, October 31, 1921, son of the late William J. and Myrtis (Nee: Campbell) Eaton.

During World War II he served in the United States Army. On September 8, 1943, in Mauston, WI, Lester was united in marriage to Bernadine F. Naughtin. Lester owned and operated United Automatic Products. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the Racine Moose Lodge #437. He also enjoyed dancing with the Circle 8 Square Dance Club. Above all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Bernadine; his children, Patricia (James) Schoff, John W. (Lynne) Eaton, Peggy (Gordie) Singer; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Harold M. (Betty) Eaton; sister-in-law, Lena Eaton; brother-in-law, Bob Fosbinder; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. Geraldine Marie Trick

Mrs. Geraldine M. Trick, 85, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints on Tuesday, February 23, 2010.

Geraldine Marie was born in Racine to the late William and Josephine (nee Uhlir) Christiansen on July 29, 1924. She had lived at her Racine residence since she was 6 months old. She was united in marriage to Gerhold E. Trick on July 31, 1946. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1996.

Mrs. Trick was a very active member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school and supported the radio ministry for many years. She was also proud of her involvement in the Cradle Role program.

Geraldine was a well-loved person and will be dearly missed by one sister-in-law, Eileen Trick; one niece, Cathleen (Scott) Jeffreys both of North Massapequa, New York; cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Irene M. Pruitt

Irene M. Pruitt, 91, passed away at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center on Tuesday, February 23, 2010.

Irene was born in Burlington, WI, on October 24, 1919, to Henry and Metta (nee: Hackman) Weyhrauch. She married Leonard Pruitt in Delavan on June 23, 1938. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1993. Irene worked for Neiser Store for 53 years, the last ten years as the store manager. She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served on the Altar Guild and Ladies Aid. Irene was also a member of the Women’s Club of Racine and Racine Garden Club.

She is survived by her brother in law, Wallace Krivsky, and sister in law, Irene Weyhrauch. Irene is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Weyhrauch, and sister, Julia Krivsky.

Funeral services for Irene will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Stephen Jennings officiating. Robert A. Bergemann

Born in Racine, WI, on September 16, 1952, Robert "Bob" Bergemann was a friend to all who knew him until his unexpected death on February 22, 2010.

The eldest of two boys, Bob and his brother grew up in Racine. He attended St. Mary's primary school and graduated from St. Catherine's High School in 1970.

Bob met Joan Sikes of Racine in 1972, fell in love and the pair were married September 13, 1975. Their family grew over the next few years to include one son and two daughters.

In addition to his passion for his family and extended family, Bob also had a passion for learning, traveling, giving to the community and his 37-year career at SC Johnson Wax. Bob's education included welding, electrical engineering and stationary engineering. He was a part-time fireman for Caledonia and a First Responder at Johnson Wax.

When he wasn't engrossed in learning or discussing new technologies, Bob was engrossed in music and travel. Bob played bass guitar in the "Flat Iron Band," acted as a sound engineer for other bands and over the last decade was a volunteer security officer for the Country Thunder music festival.

Bob enjoyed annual outings to the Milwaukee Brewers, camping throughout Wisconsin and discovering new additions at the Disney World theme parks during his annual family vacations. Bob so loved his thirty years of family vacations at Disney that he even dreamed of one day developing his own travel videos showing behind-the-scenes and growth of the many parks.

A good son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend to many, Bob will be greatly missed. He is survived by wife, Joan (Sikes) Bergemann; son, Eric Bergemann; daughters, Michelle Velnestke (Michael), and Cheryl Bergemann (Bob Weinke). His laughter will be celebrated by his grandchildren Rebecca Bergemann, Billy Bergemann, Bobby Weinke, Rachel Weinke and Lily Velnestke. His childhood antics will be celebrated by his brother, Don Bergemann. His family loyalty will be celebrated by his loving mother-in-law, Rosalind Sikes. His friendship will be celebrated by his extended family, brothers-in-law Jerry Sikes (Julie), Jay Sikes (Gena), sisters-in-law Janet Sikes (Ellis Smith), Joy Luna (Steve) and Gloria Sikes. His kind and giving soul will be celebrated by the many nieces and nephews who adored him.

Bob will be welcomed with open arms into eternity by those who preceded him including his parents, Ray and Alice Bergemann; father-in-law, James H. Sikes; and brother-in-law, James E. Sikes.

Darrleen (Anderson) Veto

Darrleen Veto, age 84, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 22, 2010, at her daughter’s residence. Darrleen was born in Chinook, Montana, on April 7, 1925, daughter of the late William F. and Frieda G. (Nee: Kruse) Anderson.

On October 28, 1944, in Racine, WI, she was united in marriage to Melvin E. Veto, who preceded her in death, October 6, 1996. Darrleen was employed as a teller at the American Bank in downtown Racine for fourteen years. She then worked in the accounting department for Racine Unified School District Business Office for twenty-five years until she retired in 1987. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed bowling and gardening. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her daughter, Ruth Ann (Milton) Trafton of Sun Prairie, WI; her granddaughter, Erica Trafton of Sun Prairie, WI; sister-in-law, Peggy Anderson of Racine; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lisa Marie Trafton; brothers, Orval H. (Harriet) Anderson, Max Anderson; sister, Bertha J. (Albert) Hass.

Marion 'Dotsie' Stewart

Marion ‘Dotsie’ (nee: Nelson) Stewart, 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, February 21, 2010, at her residence. She was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on January 6, 1931, the daughter of Herbert and Elizabeth (nee: Wheeler) Nelson.

Marion graduated from Beloit College in 1952. Shortly thereafter she was hired to be Roy D. Stewart’s legal secretary. They became quite a team professionally and personally. They married in 1955 and raised their twins, Sandy and Scott, together in Racine. Her family meant the world to her.

Marion loved music, especially playing the piano. Later in life she played music at St. Monica’s Assisted Living Home, hoping to pass the joy of music along to others. Marion was active in law–related education. She was a member of the Junior League in Racine and the President of the National Lawyers’ Wives. She also was a member of PEO.

Marion loved to travel and loved to read. She loved being with people, especially her family. She adored her three grandchildren, Quinn, Hailey and Natalie. Most of all those left behind will remember her laugh, her smile and her generosity.

Surviving are her children, Scott H. (Lisa) Stewart of Plymouth and Sandra E. Stewart of Boulder, CO; three grandchildren, Quinn Stewart Liebmann, Hailey Stewart and Natalie Stewart; sister, Hope Nelson; niece, Karen (Paul) Moser; nephew, Dr. Robert Nelson; great-niece, Madeline Moser. She is further survived by other relatives and many dear friends.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, on December 27, 2003; parents; and brother-in-law, Robert Nelson Sr.

Shirley E. (Schmidt) Dersien

Shirley E. Dersien, age 73, died peacefully at Ridgewood Care Center on Sunday, February 21, 2010. Shirley was born in Racine, WI, on November 27, 1936, daughter of the late Frank and Emma F. (Nee: Holtz) Schmidt.

She is survived by her children, Amy Kohler, Josie Dersien, Bryan Dersien and Peggy Dersien; six grandchildren; sisters, Anita Day, Violette Gorham and Betty Schmidt; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Private funeral services were held with interment at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Evelyn F. (Nehoda) Spurgat

Evelyn F. Spurgat, age 103, passed away peacefully, Sunday, February 21, 2010, at her home with her family. Evelyn was born in Racine on August 12, 1906, daughter of the late Frank and Fannie (Nee: Svoboda) Nehoda and was a lifelong resident.

She graduated from Janes School, Racine High School, and Racine College Conservatory of Music. On December 25, 1929, Evelyn married Emil Spurgat at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a lifetime member. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Evelyn enjoyed music, sewing, gardening, reading, taking trips to casinos and family parties.

She is survived by her children, Jane (Jay) Voss of Racine, David (Dorothy) Spurgat of Whitewater, WI, Sally Spurgat of Racine; son-in-law, Robert Hall of VA; 11 grandchildren, Carrie Hall of Racine, Elizabeth (Don) Caldwell of Milwaukee, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Brad Hall currently serving in Afghanistan, Christopher (Gwen) Spurgat of Minneapolis, MN, Jeffrey (Mary) Spurgat of Verona, WI, Scott (Cathy) Spurgat of De Forest, WI, Heather Voss, Heidi (James) Heagle, all of Appleton, WI, Holly (Randy) Fahnrich, Shawn (Kim) Voss, all of Racine; 20 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Emil in 1989; by her daughter, Suzanne Hall in 2002; granddaughter, Charlotte (Matt) Ritter in 2006; and brothers and sisters.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. John Roekle officiating. Richard A. Creuziger

Richard Creuziger, 85, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2010, at Select Specialty Hospital in West Allis.

Richard was born in Racine to the late Alvin and Oda (nee: Field) Creuziger on March 31, 1924. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Mae Buell on June 21, 1947. Richard was a graduate of Horlick High School and served in the Navy from 1943-1946 on the Pacific Front as an Electronic Technician’s Mate 1st Class. He was later employed as an electronics and television repairman until his retirement.

Mr. Creuziger was an avid collector of many things including Coca-Cola, Planter’s Peanuts and Pabst Beer memorabilia, coins, and was a Civil War buff.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Creuziger; son and daughter-in-law, William and Carol Creuziger; grandson, Jason; sister, Dorothy Klingenmeyer; four nieces, three nephews, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis in 1989; and sister, Rosalie Franklin in 1993.

Donald H. Meracle, Jr.

Donald H. Meracle, Jr., 77, passed away at Francis House in South Milwaukee on Sunday, February 21, 2010.

Don was born on December 13, 1932, to Donald H. and Katherine C. (nee: Hauch) Meracle, Sr. He married Marcia Swanson. Don was a professor teaching at many colleges. He had a passion for teaching and lecturing. Don was a collector of Napolean artifacts, nutcracker artifacts and Bulldogs. In his younger years he collected stamps. Don enjoyed watching old Western and Action TV shows and movies.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Meracle; aunt, Elinore Hauch; cousins, A. Jerome Pfeiffer, Maryellen Carlson and Dennis Horvath; and mother-in-law, Elinor Swanson. Don is also survived by other relatives and friends.

A memorial service for Don will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at 6 p.m. Private family interment will take place. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. until the time of services.. Memorials to St. John Nepomuk have been suggested.

Marjorie J. 'Cissie' Thomas

Marjorie J. “Cissie” Thomas, 74, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Sunday February 21, 2010.

Marjorie was born in Racine on April 28, 1935, the daughter of Louis and Marjorie (nee: Coyne) Nelson. She was employed as an assembler for Master Appliance, retiring after more than 30 years of service. Marjorie was a Washington Park High School graduate and found great enjoyment in playing bingo, but most of all her greatest love was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Sharon (David) Klimek, Brian Thomas, Arthur Thomas; and one brother, Louis “Joe” (Virginia) Nelson. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Jessica (Jeff) Humphrey, Shane, Maxwell and Molly Klimek; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Julia Humphrey and Caitlin Klimek; as well as her nephews and their families. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Robert and Richard Nelson.

John Fred Praeger, Sr.

John Fred Praeger, Sr., 77, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints on Sunday, February 21, 2010.

Fred was born in Racine on September 1, 1932, to David and Julia (nee, Wiegel) Praeger. He married the former Shirley Arney. Fred married his second wife, the former Patricia Peters, who preceded him in death. He retired from Harris Metals after more than 35 years.

Fred was a founding member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. He loved his church and was a very proud member. He was an avid Packer fan and loved to gamble, especially taking trips, and was a “scratch off” addict. Fred loved and adored his children and grandchildren. He was always there when anyone needed him and would have done anything for them.

Fred is survived by his children, Kathy (Tim) DeGarmo, John Praeger, Jr. and Jerry (Felicia) Praeger, and their mother, Shirley Praeger; step-children, Ray Peters, Jackie Cowell and Tiffany (Jeff) Slaasted; grandchildren, Ann DeGarmo, Thomas DeGarmo and Andi (Marie) Praeger; numerous step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Madden and Julie (Emil) Ruffalo; and special companion, Jane Malonee. Fred is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Otto, Dave, Jerry, Hank and Otto A.; and sister, Dorothy.

Shirley M. (Jerde) Kropidlowski

Shirley M Kropidlowski, age 82, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Woodstock Health and Rehab Center. She was born in Wilmot, WI, October 29, 1927, daughter of the late Martin and Sadie (Nee: Frank) Jerde.

On May 18, 1957, at Racine, she was united in marriage to Stanley W. Kropidlowski. Shirley was employed as a sales clerk at various department stores for many years including Turnstyle, K Mart, and Welles Dept Stores. She retired in 1990. She was a member of St. Sebastian’s Catholic Church. Shirley enjoyed embroidery, baking, playing cards, bingo, word puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. Above all she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her husband, Stanley; her six children, Larry (Donna) Jerde of Wilmot, Leona (Ron) Stelzer of Wisconsin Rapids, Ronald Kropidlowski (Fiancee Christina) of Racine, Stanley (Jody) Kropidlowski of Green Bay, Renee (Scott) Wesley of Sturtevant, Doreen (David) Bolanowski of Racine; daughter-in-law, Carol Kuleza of Wisconsin Rapids; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Eugene (Wynelle) Jerde of Wilmot, Harley (Roseann) Jerde of Twin Lakes; brother in-law, William Van Patten of MI; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. LeRoy Max Howarth

LeRoy M. Howarth, 90, passed away at his residence on Friday, February 19, 2010.

LeRoy was born in Sturtevant to the late Roy and Harriet (nee: Teske) Howarth on January 23, 1920. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Redman on October 26, 1956. LeRoy was a graduate of Washington Park High School and served in the Army from 1941-45. He was later employed as a mechanic for the US post office until his retirement in 1980.

Mr. Howarth was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church. When he served in WWII, he earned the American Defense service ribbon, European- African- Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with Silver Battle Star, Good Conduct Metal, four overseas service Bars, and one service stripe. He was known as a jack-of-all-trades who loved to build and repair household items and cars. But most of all, he loved his family and spent much time with them.

LeRoy is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two daughters, Debra (Ara) Mekhsian and Sherry (Mark) Gertenbach; six grandchildren, Erik and Dana Mekhsian, Adam, Ryan, Greg and Jennifer Gertenbach; and one great-grandchild, Julian Gertenbach. He is further survived by his sister, Dorothy Poulsen and family; a self-adopted daughter, Tammy Spanger; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Howarth; and his beloved dog, Trouble.

Funeral services for LeRoy will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Poppe officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Kathleen V. Derks

Union Grove -- Kathleen V. Derks, age 86, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010, at St. Catherine’s Hospital, Pleasant Prairie, WI. Kathleen was born in Racine, December 25, 1923, daughter of the late William and Mary (Nee: Ruetz) Derks.

Kathleen was employed by J.I. Case Company for twenty-four years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church.

Survivors include nieces, nephews other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four brothers, Jerome (Anna) Derks, Richard (Kathryn) Derks, William Derks, and James (Linda) Derks.

Francis M. Worden

Francis M. Worden, 100, passed away on Thursday February 18, 2010. Francis was born on October 11, 1909 in Lewistown, IL, to the late Myrtle (nee: Negley) Davies and Elmer Carter. His stepfather was Ervin Worden. The family moved to the Stevens Point, area to farm in the spring of 1913 and then to the Racine area in 1922.

At age 18, Francis enlisted in the United States Coast Guard Life Saving Service at the Racine Coast Guard Station on March 19, 1928. On August 8, 1930, he married Almeda Hare at Christ Church in Waukegan, IL. At that time he was stationed at the Kenosha Coast Guard Station. He resigned from the Coast Guard on December 1, 1936, to go to work for the Milwaukee Electric Railway & Light Co. as a streetcar motorman and bus operator at the Racine Station. He transferred to the Fond du Lac Station in Milwaukee in June of 1940, retiring on January 1, 1975, with 38 years of service, whereupon he returned to Racine to live here permanently.

Francis was granted a leave of absence for the duration of World War II when he re-enlisted as a Chief Boatswain’s Mate in the United States Coast Guard serving aboard the LST 262 and was at Omaha Beach on D-Day in June 1944. The ship made many trips back and forth across the English Channel, carrying troops and supplies until the war with Germany ended. His ship returned to drydock at Orange, TX, to be outfitted for service in the Pacific, but the war with Japan then ended. Francis was then transferred to Detroit, MI, to be honorably discharged in September 1945.

He was awarded a campaign ribbon for the American Area; a campaign ribbon for the European, African and Mid-Eastern Area with one star for the Invasion of Normandy and an additional star for Convoy UGS36; and a United States Coast Guard Good Conduct Ribbon with one star. Francis also received a Lifesaving Award Gold Medal from the City of Racine for saving lives of the crew from the Steamship “Wisconsin” which sank off the coast of Lake Michigan near Kenosha on October 28, 1929.

He held life membership in the VFW; Amalgamated Assoc. of Street, Electric Railway & Motor Coach Employees of America, Local 998; and the Milwaukee Transport Employee Benefit Society.

Francis is survived by his son, Wayne A. (Virginia) Worden of Racine; daughter, Patricia L. James of Spokane, WA; son, Steven A. Worden of Spokane, WA; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Married for over 71 years, he was preceded in death by his wife, Almeda, on December 30, 2001. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services only will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday, February 22, 2010, at 12:30 p.m. Burial with full military honors will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to The Salvation Army would be appreciated.

Corey A. Martell, 39, passed away at his home on February 18, 2010.

Corey Martell was born in Kenosha to Charles and Arline (nee: Smith) Martell on January 15, 1971. He had lived in Racine for the past ten years.

Corey was a former member of the First Christian Church of Kenosha and was a lifelong Vikings fan.

Corey is survived by his father, Charles; his brother, Scott (Becky) Martell; two nephews, Joshua and Steven Fleming; and one niece, Amanda Martell; his companion, Kathryn Smith; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Arline Martell

Gary Jon Dennison

Gary Jon Dennison, 31, passed away on February 17, 2010. He was born in Racine on September 13, 1978, the son of Gary and Susan (nee: Tuchel) Dennison.

He was a 1997 graduate of William Horlick High School. Gary went on to attend the University of Nebraska, Lincoln where he was a member of the marching band. In 2005 he graduated from Carthage College in Kenosha.

Sister Marguerite (De Chantal) McGee, O.P.

Sister Marguerite McGee, O.P., 92, passed away at Lakeshore Manor, Racine on Wednesday February 17, 2010.

Marguerite Marie McGee was born October 18, 1917, to James C. and Mary (nee: Brach) McGee in Chicago, IL. On September 4, 1935, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1936 she was given the religious name Sister DeChantal. She professed her first vows in 1938 and her final vows in 1944. In 1968 she returned to using her baptismal name Marguerite.

Sister Marguerite spent many years in service to others in teaching or ministry to the elderly. She began her ministry in 1938 at St. Clement School, Center Line, Michigan. Places in Wisconsin where she served were St. Rita, St. Rose and St. Edward, Racine; St. Benedict the Moor, Milwaukee; St. John, South Milwaukee; St. Peter, East Troy; St. Mary, Belgium; St. Mary, Waukesha; St. Alphonsus, New Munster; and St. Sylvester, South Milwaukee. From 1994-1996 she worked in the Adult Learning Program at Siena Center. After retiring from teaching, she spent several years in ministry to the elderly. In September 2001 Sister Marguerite became a resident at Lakeshore Manor, Racine.

Sister Marguerite is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her sister-in law, Joan McGee; nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers James and John; and sister-in-law Terry McGee.

Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Monday, February 22, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a Remembering Service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested.

Gloria M. 'Big Momma' (Gelina) Kralicek

Gloria M. Kralicek, age 91, passed away Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Gloria was born September 7, 1918, in Minneapolis, MN, the first of seven children born to the late Edward and Margaret (Nee: Dickinson) Gelina.

She spent her early childhood in Escanaba and Marquette MI. In the 1920s they moved to a little village in Wisconsin called Gagen, east of Rhinelander, then to Tomahawk and Park Falls. She attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and Lincoln High School in Park Falls. In 1933 she met her future husband and married Jerome “Jerry” Kralicek on August 2, 1937, at St. Anthony De Paude Church in Park Falls. They relocated to Racine in 1941.

Gloria liked being with and helping people. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital of Racine. Later she worked at the Chartroom as a cook and kitchen helper. In 1981 she became actively involved at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with their Meal Program and was also involved with their Senior Program for forty-three years. Gloria loved her flower garden, tomato plants and enjoyed canning. She also made baby quilts for all her grandchildren, friends, and for their grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her three children, Richard (Jamie) Kralicek, Gloria Jean Stark, Margaret “Cookie” Clickner; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Kathleen (Robert) La Voie; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry “Grumpy;” sons, Chuck and Bob; grandson, Gregg Stark; great-grandson, Ian Orth; and four brothers, Leo, Harold, Howard and Alfred; and sister, Lois.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 22, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1100 Erie St., with Rev. Martin Osuji officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Ruth M. Highman

Mrs. Ruth M. (nee: Pankow) Highman, 89, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.

Ruth was born in Merrill to the late Arthur and Helena (nee: Huven) Pankow on February 8, 1921, and lived in Racine for over 68 years. She was united in marriage to Arthur Highman in 1940. Ruth was employed at Don’s Food Mart for many years and was a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and loved knitting, crocheting, and playing cards.

Ruth is survived by her son, Allen Highman; daughter, Connie (Dave) Mickelsen; four grandchildren, Cathy Weiss, Kim (Don) Krause, Amy (Mark) Gehl, Dan (Jackie) Mickelsen; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur; daughter, Kathy; daughter-in-law, Dottie; her brothers Donald, Kyrle and Wayne Pankow; and her sister, Shirley DeRosa.

Raymond C. Zukowski

Raymond C. Zukowski, age 80, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints. He was born in Racine on May 18, 1929, son of the late Casimir and Natalie Zukowski.

Raymond served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On August 22, 1959, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Jacobsen, who preceded him in death on August 25, 1995. He was employed as Vice President of sales for Racine Railroad Products. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and Meadowbrook Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing cribbage.

Surviving are his daughters, Christine Zukowski, Sarah (John) Grycowski, two grandchildren, Alex and Amy, all of Racine; sister, Helen Kalscheuer of Madison; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Nancy Schmieden of Elkhorn, Donald Jacobsen of Elkhorn, Jeanette (Harold) Johnson of Woodstock, IL; nieces, nephews other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he also was preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Hughes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., with Rev. William J. Dietzler officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family at 9:30 until time of Mass at the church. Memorials to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or to St. Catherine’s High School have been suggested by the family.

James L. Braun

James L. Braun, age 79, passed away Tuesday February 16, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. James was born in Racine on November 27, 1930, son of the late Peter and Barbara (nee: Theres) Braun and had been a lifelong resident.

During the Korean Conflict, Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. On May 5, 1956, he was united in marriage to Delores Romnek at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where he was a longtime member. He was employed with Western Publishing for thirty-eight years retiring from there in 1991. Jim also loved his 29 years of employment at the home of Sam and Imogene Johnson until he retired in 2001. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and his time spent with his sons and family up north. Above all, it was his family and his grandchildren that gave him the most joy. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Delores; three sons, Mark (Patricia) Braun, Scott (Barbara) Braun, Todd (Lorraine) Braun; four grandchildren, Jason, Cara, Matthew and Olivia, all of Racine; sisters, Ruth Chaslovski, Jean McMahon, both of Racine; brother, Thomas of FL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arthur Helding, Mary Braun, Ruth (Norbert) Wisniewski, James (Lorel) Romnek, all of Racine, Kathleen Coffey of San Francisco, CA, Audrey Romnek of Milwaukee; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was also preceded in death by his sister, Lois Helding; and his brother, Curtis.

Entombment with Full Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass.

Warren M. Snyder

Warren M. Snyder, 97, passed away on Tuesday February 16, 2010, at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center. Warren was born in Virginia, Minnesota, on May 11, 1912, the son of William and Anna (nee: Madera) Snyder. He was united in marriage to Clara Bergholz on September 11, 1937, in Milwaukee. Warren was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1931.” He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Warren along with his wife, Clara, owned and operated Snyder’s 5c-$1.00 Store on Taylor Avenue for 30 years. He was a longtime member of Lutheran Church of The Redeemer, former member of the Zoological Society along with coordinating Safari Day, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the first and last president of Badger Variety Wholesale and a member of Taylor Avenue Business Assoc.

Warren was scorekeeper for all home basketball games at Horlick High School from his high school graduation until 1963. As of December 1, 2009, he was the longest living basketball letterman Alumnus of Wm. Horlick High School. Warren was a builder of Camp Anokijig during the Great Depression and continued to be a supporter for many years through the “Y-Bees” group.

Warren is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Henning of Racine; one son, Michael (Sandy) Snyder of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Andrew Snyder of Atlanta, Lynne Snyder of Bloomington, Indiana, Jeffrey Snyder of Atlanta, Karen (Ron) Ehlers of Wisconsin Dells. He is also survived by foreign student, Conchita Poncini of Geneva, Switzerland; first cousin, Margaret (Fred) Kellner of Union Grove; special friend, Helen Gill of Racine; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, loyal customers and many dear friends.

Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, on February 1, 2000; daughter Ellen Jo Snyder; foreign exchange student Josie (nee: Caccam) Sison; son-in-law, Paul Henning; granddaughter, Kathy Henning-Kunert; sister, Josephine; sister and brother-in-law, Verda (Larry) Johnson; and one brother and sister-in-law, William (Annetta) Snyder.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 2417 Drexel Ave., with Rev. Molly Doreza officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery. There will be a visitation at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday evening, February 19, 2010, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer or Camp Anokijig would be greatly appreciated.

The Snyders would like to extend a very special thank you to the entire staff at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center for their patience and tolerance given to Warren over the years.
