James L. Braun

James L. Braun, age 79, passed away Tuesday February 16, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. James was born in Racine on November 27, 1930, son of the late Peter and Barbara (nee: Theres) Braun and had been a lifelong resident.

During the Korean Conflict, Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. On May 5, 1956, he was united in marriage to Delores Romnek at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where he was a longtime member. He was employed with Western Publishing for thirty-eight years retiring from there in 1991. Jim also loved his 29 years of employment at the home of Sam and Imogene Johnson until he retired in 2001. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and his time spent with his sons and family up north. Above all, it was his family and his grandchildren that gave him the most joy. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Delores; three sons, Mark (Patricia) Braun, Scott (Barbara) Braun, Todd (Lorraine) Braun; four grandchildren, Jason, Cara, Matthew and Olivia, all of Racine; sisters, Ruth Chaslovski, Jean McMahon, both of Racine; brother, Thomas of FL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arthur Helding, Mary Braun, Ruth (Norbert) Wisniewski, James (Lorel) Romnek, all of Racine, Kathleen Coffey of San Francisco, CA, Audrey Romnek of Milwaukee; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was also preceded in death by his sister, Lois Helding; and his brother, Curtis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., Monday February 22, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. John D. Aiello officiating. Entombment with Full Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass.
