Evelyn F. (Nehoda) Spurgat

Evelyn F. Spurgat, age 103, passed away peacefully, Sunday, February 21, 2010, at her home with her family. Evelyn was born in Racine on August 12, 1906, daughter of the late Frank and Fannie (Nee: Svoboda) Nehoda and was a lifelong resident.

She graduated from Janes School, Racine High School, and Racine College Conservatory of Music. On December 25, 1929, Evelyn married Emil Spurgat at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a lifetime member. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Evelyn enjoyed music, sewing, gardening, reading, taking trips to casinos and family parties.

She is survived by her children, Jane (Jay) Voss of Racine, David (Dorothy) Spurgat of Whitewater, WI, Sally Spurgat of Racine; son-in-law, Robert Hall of VA; 11 grandchildren, Carrie Hall of Racine, Elizabeth (Don) Caldwell of Milwaukee, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Brad Hall currently serving in Afghanistan, Christopher (Gwen) Spurgat of Minneapolis, MN, Jeffrey (Mary) Spurgat of Verona, WI, Scott (Cathy) Spurgat of De Forest, WI, Heather Voss, Heidi (James) Heagle, all of Appleton, WI, Holly (Randy) Fahnrich, Shawn (Kim) Voss, all of Racine; 20 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Emil in 1989; by her daughter, Suzanne Hall in 2002; granddaughter, Charlotte (Matt) Ritter in 2006; and brothers and sisters.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. John Roekle officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Saturday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Memorials to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church have been suggested.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Thomas Goodrich and the hospice Nurses and staff of Wheaton-Franciscan Hospital for their dedication and support.
