Gloria M. 'Big Momma' (Gelina) Kralicek

Gloria M. Kralicek, age 91, passed away Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Medical Center. Gloria was born September 7, 1918, in Minneapolis, MN, the first of seven children born to the late Edward and Margaret (Nee: Dickinson) Gelina.

She spent her early childhood in Escanaba and Marquette MI. In the 1920s they moved to a little village in Wisconsin called Gagen, east of Rhinelander, then to Tomahawk and Park Falls. She attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School and Lincoln High School in Park Falls. In 1933 she met her future husband and married Jerome “Jerry” Kralicek on August 2, 1937, at St. Anthony De Paude Church in Park Falls. They relocated to Racine in 1941.

Gloria liked being with and helping people. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital of Racine. Later she worked at the Chartroom as a cook and kitchen helper. In 1981 she became actively involved at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with their Meal Program and was also involved with their Senior Program for forty-three years. Gloria loved her flower garden, tomato plants and enjoyed canning. She also made baby quilts for all her grandchildren, friends, and for their grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her three children, Richard (Jamie) Kralicek, Gloria Jean Stark, Margaret “Cookie” Clickner; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Kathleen (Robert) La Voie; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry “Grumpy;” sons, Chuck and Bob; grandson, Gregg Stark; great-grandson, Ian Orth; and four brothers, Leo, Harold, Howard and Alfred; and sister, Lois.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 22, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1100 Erie St., with Rev. Martin Osuji officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Monday at the church from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 10 a.m. Memorials to the Gloria Kralicek Memorial Food Program, c/o Educators Credit Union have been suggested.
